After 40 hours, the game is close to customs clearance. There are some small problems, such as no atlas, but the game is excellent on the whole, and the system has evolved a lot. I personally like the story, but it is a little slow in the early stage。

Monlithsoft has managed to create something truly special with the latest installment in the Xenoblade Chronicles franchise.

I'm shocked by the amount of complexity, and even more-so that this level of complexity was made palettable. The class system is truly innovative, and the side mechanics like gemcrafting and cooking feel genuinely useful. Other systems such as inventory managment, ether collecting, and temporary party members serve to make an overarching system more complex than I could've anticipated. But not in a way that takes away from the grand picture, rather, they simply make it even more beautiful.

Combat is revolutionized in this game with the ability to change the class of any character. When classes are mastered, abilities can be shared between classes. You can freely switch between party members in and out of battle, all if whome have their own classes with mastered abilities and inherent strengths and waeknesses. Combine all of this with the fusion and chain attack mechanics, and there's never a dull moment in battle. I couldn't have said this about previous titles in the franchise... not to say they were dull all of the time. One thing they nailed in particular is the feeling that weapons actually weigh as heavy or as light as they look. When you're beating an enemy around with a giant hammer every swing takes it's time; when the swing lands you send the enemy flying, and upon contact you feel a satisfying rumble in the controller and witness a brief pause on screen. All of which emphasizes the gravity of each blow.

Another impressive feat is that sidequests don't feel unbearably generic like in past titles. Don't get me wrong, collecting mushrooms for some nameless NPC is a staple of just about any JRPG. But I'd be lying if I said it isn't a breath of fresh air to feel like I'm doing something meaningful, even when completing quests apart from the main questline. "Hero" quests categorically speaking stand out as interesting side-plots with the always satisfying reward of unlocking a new class, which can then be used to master new abilities as well as unlock fasion in the way of new outfits. Speaking of the main questline, it is undeniably the strongest in the series. Where the others touched on similar subjects, they failed to make them feel truly heavy or meaningful like they feel in this latest installment. Monolithsoft has struck the perfect balance of light heartedness and soul crushing peril.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is an obvious must-play. Now standing tall above the rest of its peers as a shining example of what others should shoot for in terms of complexitiy, digestibility, and overall narrative.

+ Good battle system but a bit of annoying un-skippable animation.
+ Large map with beautiful graphic (the best on the Switch I think)
+ Decent music though weaker than XBC and XBC2
+ XBC and XBC2 fans will happily see some familiar faces
    Cons
    - Too many boring memory movies in the first 3 chapters of the game, revoke my feeling of watching anime, but I cannot speed up, hopefully, next time they will add fast forwarding function (not skip or I need to check the movie after the game).
    - The tempo of storytelling is awfully stepped back from XBC and XBC2, I didn't really get into the game until finishing chapter 4.
    - Some of the most important information about the world in this game is in subrequests that you don't need to finish, and even some are in subrequests after you finished the game. I don't think this is a good subrequest design pattern. You shouldn't put the main story into the subrequest to have some decent requests.
    - The ending, gives me an unfinished feeling. This is the true drawback of this game. Is this implying the DLC contents? Why publish an unfinished game then?

    I'd give this game 5/10.

The game optimizes many shortcomings of the previous game. The design of the regional task is a big breakthrough. I like it very much. The plot is very deep. I have to think about it before I can understand it. In general, xc3 has completed the evolution of the series. I look forward to the future xc.

The last chapter of this wonderful JRPG trilogy (I would dare to say, the best of this millennium), could not close in a better way; really EVERYTHING does well.

It is almost impossible to do a better job than what the Monolith guys have achieved with this game, which improves (and even makes it look outdated in several aspects) its predecessors, which were already geniuses for the respective release times.

A story that refocuses the tone of the franchise, but not only superficially, but in a deep and substantial way with the great mythology that ended up being established.

Memorable cast of characters (the best of the trilogy), with many layers of depth, thanks to its great development and well-cared dialogue.

One of the most complex and ambitious combat systems seen in any single-player video game in history.

The world is incredibly vast, very well crafted, full of views, heights, forks; things to do, which not only help to make the content of the game more robust, but also help to improve the internal lore for the world in question.

Memorable soundtrack; Yasunori Mitsuda never disappoints, with one of the best selections of melancholy-sad music ever seen in any video game, and with a lot of influence on the diegesis of the world, due to the theme of the flutes.

Tons of improvements to the interfaces and menus, as well as help to make the game more accessible to practically everyone (which is quite ironic, since this, along with the XCX, are the most complex Xenoblades).

In short, we are facing perhaps the game of the year 2022 in general terms, probably the best game of the entire Nintendo Switch console, and, roughly speaking, one of the best video games ever created.

    Many congratulations to Monolith Soft.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Muchas felicitaciones a Monolith Soft.

    + Graphics
    + World design is excellent
+ Most of characters, even side characters are interesting
    + Music is wonderful

    - Story well said, but uninteresting and very slow pacing
    - bigger party size make mess on screen and its hard to see whats going on, not even think if tactics is optimal
    - side quests seems to be repetetive and not rewarding
    - even lower sense of progression than in previous games
    - some builds are much stronger than other which force to play those to be efficient
    - chain attacks are slowing game way too much
    - Special form of characters is weaker than characters without it

Edit: After 50 hours in i stopped playing. rating of 7/10 remains unchaged, as i see XC3 to be worse in many aspects as its predecessors.

This game is pretty awesome thus far. (20 hours in) Slow in the beginning and I actually started skipping cutscenes as they rival MGS4 lengths, as I just enjoy exploring the open world (which is massive) I'm familiar with the FF12 style of JRPG grinding so this game is my jam.

I really didn't enjoy Xenoblade 2, therefore this game automatically placed ahead of it, but I must admit, I

Maybe it's just me but the MC in this game.... well his man bun kinda looks weird in my opinion..... lol. But no big deal. Must be getting old, Just thought Shulk looked so much cooler.

This game is certainly worth the buck, but probably an acquired taste for the hardcore JRPG fanatics. I would have given this an 8.5, but the review bombs are pretty laughable. So gotta show this game some love.

Expand

    Thoughts-
As you may have guessed, there is a lot to say about Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and I’m not sure I’ve said all of what I could yet. It’s fitting, really, for a series of games that prides itself on the excess it delivers in quite literally every possible regard, without compromising on the core quality of the experience (something very few other developers have managed to do). Xenoblade games are massive, they defy the imagination, and they can often break the mind with their scope and sheer volume. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is no different. In taking together over a decade long narrative arc that the geniuses at Monolith Soft have been working towards, it takes on the best of Xenoblade 1 and 2, and then brings its own additions to the table. The end result is something so jaw-droppingly big, it’s a wonder it doesn’t collapse under its own weight. Under the stewardship of a lesser developer, it probably would have, or at least, the seams would have begun to show. Under Monolith Soft, that entire excess comes together in one glorious package, tightly integrated and thoroughly compelling, not just the best game in its series and by its developer, but also arguably among the greatest games on its system and in its genre. Now that is suitably lavish praise for a series that deals with excesses like Xenoblade Chronicles does- and it’s well earned.

Combat system, after you put at least 10 hours into the game it’s starting to be good, at the beginning might be boring for some. Systems in the game, there is aaa lot of systems, even when game does pretty good job to guide you though them, it takes lots of time to learn and need a little bit of patience. Climate, is darker then xenoblade chronicles 2. In xc3 we are on the edge of switch capabilities, but game looks very good :).

I need to preface this by the fact I've played and essentially completed every Xenoblade Chronicles game to date. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the most polished the series has been, but unfortunately did not live up to its ambitions and may even do "dirty" its previous numbered titles by mischaracterizing beloved characters at times with underdeveloped plot elements. It leaves far too many plot elements unanswered and feels undercooked in its execution toward the end unfortunately.
-The world itself leaves much to be desired from a gameplay standpoint compared to its predecessors. It has an ambitious combat system that drags players back to the more simple gameplay of Xenoblade 1 and mixes it with some elements of 2 in ways that make battles drag out longer than they probably should.
-The gameplay gets too repetitive compared to much superior combat system of 2 (or Torna).
-I think the developers really went out of there way to present well animated cutscenes that are the best in the series in terms of production, but sometimes it is a bit too much and re-treads too much on the previous games in ways that are not productive at all for advancing the story. I don't need 3 cutscenes when I'm running down a hill that takes three times as long as they need to, just present one cutscene that does it all then take me back to the gameplay.
-I think in terms of feedback, they over-corrected on potential flaws of previous games. The tutorials are way too long and drawn out for repeat plays. On the other hand, it is easily the most accessible the series has been since 1.
-It never resolves plot threads that it should be considering, and leaves much to be desired for what it is trying to execute. Don't bring previous games into your game if you don't make it worth it. As a huge fan of the 2nd game that loved it to bits, to leave many core elements unsettled was strange.
-The game could have existed without needing to bring 1 & 2's universes into this game, it felt totally not merited. The actual story it was trying to tell got dragged down as a result.
-The event system for quests are a bit confusing at times. You try to find out how to activate an ascension quest sometimes, and it depends on a quest, but the game doesn't inform you of which quest you're on. This happened at least 3 times on my playthrough and left much frustration on where/what I was to do next.
-The hero system, which is this game's "equivalent" to the blade system of 2, can lead players to become over-levelled for many parts of the game, making the gameplay far too stale too quickly. This is because unlike the blade system, the hero quests provide a ton of EXP up front through required quests you can at many times do at any time, rather than earning it. You can essentially just do side-questing with hero quests, and be way too overlevelled for the main story that you are walking through main quests not fighting any regular enemies. It breaks the immersion of the game considerably. Also the hero system, unlike the blade system, does not encourage replays in NG+.
-At this time, there's little reason to do a NG+.

The game, while a step forward in production, was definitely a step backwards in storytelling and gameplay from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is arguably a better game overall. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a very ambitious title, and I respect the developers for their attempt, but they need to remember to focus on making the plot stronger and not re-use previous games in the way they did, it could have been much better. Without spoiling anything, the entire plot of this game could be rewritten out of existence if the previous games ended in a better way (that this game confirms didn't happen, unfortunately).

Holding it back are just a couple things: The world locations are lacking in visual diversity when compared to past entries
The bgm for these locations are also less memorable compared to predecessor
It could really benefit from slight increases to graphical fidelity and effects ( wierd graphical glitches during shifts from day to night are jarring)

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. And yet another masterpiece from Monolith Soft after Xenoblade Chronicles DE. I just finished the game's main story after 120 hours of gameplay and damn was that a good ride! Comparing to XC1 and XC2 (I have finished both), a lot of things have been improved upon in this game. Especially the side quests, character depth, character interactions, and combat. The game doesn't throw everything at you at once so there are many tutorial screens during your journey BUT the new mechanics introduced through chapters made the gameplay feel fresh.

People complain about the graphics but bruhh, I mean the textures can be bad at times yes, but this game looks so friggin' good for a handheld game. I personally preferred playing this on handheld mode because I like to play chill in bed while playing, and mostly because the post processing that MS developed for this game made the handheld experience a lot better compared to previous titles.

The story... its philosophical story had a bittersweet but satisfying ending. I had goosebumps throughout the final cutscene. Although some people had problems with it, I really liked how the game ended. It was the raw bittersweet feeling of moving on... away from the past and one's past regrets, and instead looking forward into the future. It hurts, but we've got to do it anyway either because we simply have to, or because it is for the people we love and care for the most. The ending had so much heart and meaning. It's all I could ask for from a Xenoblade story. I honestly can't wait for the DLC story.

OST is hands down amazing. Especially during battles! Nothing else need be said.

Like Xenoblade Chronicles DE, it wasn't perfect, but it is still a masterpiece for me, thus I give it a 10/10.

PS. Thank god for the English dub actors and director. No more "HaiYAH..." for me or for anyone. I finished the game on English dub but now I'm gonna try Japanese on new game plus.

That's not to say that this game is completely devoid of deep characters or great moments between them. But when I find that half of the main 6 characters are just uninteresting and not compelling in any way, even after seeing through the entirety of their story, I have to say I am just underwhelmed.

I think this chalks up to the fact that a lot of this game felt like it needed more time in the oven. Despite it's already massive size, it seems like bits and pieces are just missing sometimes. A lot of the side content kept me engaged, but if I were to charge straight through the story this would definitely be the shortest main story to date. I feel like that part of the game should definitely have been given more love. Especially at the beginning and towards the end.

Definitely worth a play, but probably won't return to it.

There are people that just complain about the graphics and say that the characters are “too anime” I bet those people just saw the character designs and artstyle and inmediately thought it was just a dating simulator with stereotypical anime characters Expand

Cons: I really don't understand how anyone can give this game a good review, unless you just really like to watch people die for fun, especially young people. I mean there a lot of people like that, so I guess that explains a lot. The story is a complete mess, the music is usually dry (some tracks are good), and the gameplay is kind of boring. But my main issue is that the main bad guys are so generically bad, 2D, and mono-black morally that it's kind of hilarious. Like watching an old Disney movie where the bad guy is just pure evil for the shock of it. I prefer stories with a least a little substance and antagonists, not villians who want nothing more than to see the world burn for absolutely no reason. This game is like burnt, stale bread.

This is my first Xenoblade game, I am very much loving the world. It is a bit to much playing on the handheld but as I play on my TV screen it is a great experience. The mechanics added slowly have helped but as I go further and further in they are adding up! Starts to get a little repetitive also I as I go on as in Combat, BUT, it is an JRPG so it was to be expected. Very happy with thisThis is my first Xenoblade game, I am very much loving the world. Absolute masterpiece. Improves on xenoblade 2 in almost everywhere. Graphics are much better, the world is bigger, music is amazing and writing is more mature. Definitely give it a try.

This game is a masterpiece just like every other Xenoblade Game on the Nintendo Switch.
The story is AMAZING, characters and deep and interesting, the music is INCREDIBLE and the Gameplay fun and addictive.

The game is filled with literally hundreads of cutscenes which are extremely well done and which will tell you a wonderful story.
There are plenty of secondary stuff to do as well, such as the unique monsters, superbosses, etc.
If you are a JRPG lover or just a gamer who like UNFORGETTABLE STORIES and CHARACTERS you can't miss this masterpiace.

Don't know where all this negativity is coming from. Game literally improves on all its predecessors. Walking animations actually stick to the ground. Lip sync is not god awful like Xenoblade 2. Xenoblade 2 was unacceptable with the voices and animations. No blade gacha system, and the character designs literally fit in the universe, unlike XB2 where every antagonist looks like they are from Final fantasy and each blade was designed by random artists (which they were.) Also, no overly designed characters. Why was Dahlia even a thing...? Combat is much more engaging than any of the previous games. Literally, 7 customizable characters that fight together. Extremely chaotic and fun. Heavily recommend this game! Expand

A great game in the Xenoblade saga. Lots of references and callbacks to the other games. I definitely recommend playing 1 and 2 before this one.

Of course if you have a functioning brain you know to ignore the review bombers. Petty children who can't stand to see a successful JRPG on Nintendo I guess.
What is there to say about this game that hasn't already been said? It's the best of Xenoblade from the past 10 years, finetuned and tinkered so that the combat is as snappy and fun as ever, much welcomed QOL features are introduced,

It's the best of Xenoblade from the past 10 years, finetuned and tinkered so that the combat is as snappy and fun as ever, much welcomed QOL features are introduced, story is intriguing and engrossing, and the soundtrack and art direction fulfill the series' legendary status. Seriously, if you like RPGs and especially those from the Land of the Rising Sun, you either own this game or you owe it to yourself to play this.

This is easily the best game in the series, hands down. From the open world to the must to the characters and of course the story, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a must buy for JRPG fans.

Definitely a decent game with an interesting story but after 70 hours, I can’t help but notice that the characters just aren’t as likable as they were in Xenoblade 2 and I just don’t care as much about the cut scenes. Are Japanese devs dumbing down characters to appease the blandness of present day western culture? That’s the vibe I get.

Ultimately, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 represents the pinnacle of the series, both gameplay-wise and narratively. The characters are another highlight of the game. They are well-drawn, with only a small amount of formulaicness. [Issue#321]

I began XC3 knowing I'd enjoy it because of the fun I had with the previous games. What I didn't expect was for this to become one of my favorite JPRGs of all-time! With its engaging open world, engrossing combat system, loveable characters and gripping story, this game is a masterpiece of the genre! [Issue #62 – November/December 2022, p. 67]

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a clear improvement over its predecessors in almost every way. It streamlines so much and avoids past pitfalls, though there’s still work to be done in terms of balancing the difficulty. There’s a grounded story here with a solid cast of characters, and the basic plot is much easier to digest. The world design exceeds past efforts with ease, and the implementation of Hero Quests is a game changer. While the devs have done an admirable job making the battle system easier to grasp, it feels like the series has fully explored and exhausted these core combat mechanics, signaling it’s time for the next game to change things up. As a whole, it stands as a phenomenal RPG with a one-of-a-kind sense of exploration you can’t find anywhere else.
