Though at the end of it, I think the pros outweigh its cons, as I personally got invested into the story and characters, which is necessary for its 50+ hour length.

I think that XC2 is a really good addition to the switch and is the game for the anime JRPG audience. From playing the previous entry, I do think the current Xenoblade is a good and better successor.

This was my first Xenogears/BLade game and oh boy did that game surprise me with quality and length.
Best combat system in a jrpg (after you finally understand the full extent). Top story, beautifully, extensively told. Huuuuge world with so much to do, that is totally on Witcher/Skyrim level, or even more. The Soundtrack is a straight 10 and the graphics are pretty amazing for that

I always imagine if this game would've been for PS4pro or steam, on graphics term...
Anyway, this is the best JRPG of this generation. It's better than Persona 5 in every regard and a perfect combination of old school and modern rpg. Eat this square-enix this is how you do rpgs!!

I completed the game after 128 frigging long hours, never did I get bored.....could've completed that maybe 30-40 hours earlier, If I would not mind developing my blades and doing sidequests.

As of finishing it yesterday I have to say that in my opinion that it was the best game released in 2017! As I got further and further into the game I found myself slowly but surely becoming entranced into the deep world of Xenoblade 2. The story despite having a somewhat slow and trope-heavy start really began to pick up around Chapter 3 or so and I found myself becoming emotionally attached to the various characters within this story. All in all it took me roughly 85 hours to finish the main story alongside a significant amount of extra content (affinity charts, sidequests etc.) and almost every second of it was magical.

However, despite my amazing experience there is a reason I said almost. This game has a few issues which slightly dragged down the experience for me. This included lip syncing, occasional bad voice acting from the English cast, blade summoning, collectathon sidequests, somewhat invasive tutorials and worst of all a combat system which was only a bit above mediocre. The combat system despite being generally engaging due to its simplistic complexity ended up becoming too repetitive to remain anywhere near as engaging as in the beginning. In my opinion the main issue with this battle system was how long it would sometimes take to kill even normal enemies. This issue could easily be fixed by buffing enemy damage whilst also buffing the damage and healing of your own party.

This game however, isn't for everyone, if you're looking for a short game to play or can't stand minor yet also infuriating inconveniences you most likely won't find this game suffices your needs. I'd personally recommend this game for those who rather than focusing only on game play also enjoy the stories and lore within video game universes.

Despite the negatives of the game I find that my own personal enjoyment of the game severely outweighed the negatives mentioned. Overall I'd give the game a solid 9.5/10 based purely on my own enjoyment of the game!

I'd never played a JRPG before, combat looked strange, I was not a fan of the voice acting in the trailer, what I had seen of the story looked basic, and the art style did not appeal to me whatsoever. I eventually looked into it more and as I learned more about it I slowly came on to the idea of buying it. So I picked it up when it came out, cautiously, and got stuck into it. In the end, I was wrong about nearly everything, this is one of the best games of 2017 in my opinion, and not only has it made me interesting in playing another JRPG it exiles in all the things I was worried about when I first learned about it. Combat works, and its some of the most interesting, fun and complex combat in any game. Once you catch onto it at the beginning it is workable and as it slowly introduces new mechanics it improves tenfold. It does a relatively good job of introducing mechanics and inner workings of combat but I found some combat explanations online very useful. Mastering a particular aspect of combat and then going back to defeat a particularly hard foe is extremely satisfying. And the levelling up of your character and blades, or unlocking a new power is satisfying in the same way. The story in Xenoblade is something I ended up really enjoying, its pretty fun and despite the game's length tended to go past pretty brisk at most points. It deals with some interesting themes about friendship and what it means to be human, all this through an ensemble of colourful and interesting characters with depth. This goes for both the main cast, NPCs and even the villains I was happy to watch ALL of the many long cutscenes and stayed engaged with the story the whole time. I had said that at my initial learning of the game I was not on board with the voice acting but in the end, it was pretty ok with me. To be clear I played with English voices because I am not a true weeb and while I was mostly indifferent about the voice acting the voices were distinctive and seemed correct for (and a part of) the characters. Not to mention the fact that there was a large variety of voices, you got not just American accents but Scottish, British, Australian and more. And from these accounts, you could tell which nation the person speaking was from with pretty good accuracy, which I reckon is a cool touch and some fun world building. Xenoblade brings an extremely interesting approach to fantasy that also integrates it with a degree of science fiction and an original idea for a world. I was really happy that it did this because it made the game all the more better. And finally, while at the beginning I was not a fan of the art style I very quickly grew comfortable and actually really loved it. But, sadly my one big complaint comes within this category and it is to do with character models. While most are really good basically all of the female models are dumb and oversexualised. What makes it worse is that some of these characters who have been objectified by their design end up being really cool and fleshed out characters. It says a lot that this is by far my biggest issue but it was noticeable and pervasive throughout all of the game. I think some of my issues with this is that it's my first JRPG and the first time I've really had this as an issue but it doesn't dismiss this as a valid problem and a slight on a great game. In conclusion. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is an extremely good game with a lot of merit in a lot of places and in my mind is an uncountable must have for Nintendo Switch. Expand

Music, story, characters and landscape are all awesome, and you can really feel sucked in to the story and can't stop playing to explore the world more and more.

Only downside is that I feel for some people the combat system might get boring after a time.

But still I definitely recommend everyone to play this through.

With around 25 hours of play time, this is what I almost can say about this game.
It's not made for everyone, and probably you won't get in a middle point, or you love it so hard, or you will hate it the most.
Since cinematics, ost and story plot are simply amazing (something that went bad in Xen.. X), the main point you have to care about is the gameplay, which is IMO hard to perform

Monolith helps you a lot among the game with full of tutorials (you can even be in a tutorial after 20 hours of playtime), then if you expend many time on it, you won't be afraid of the gameplay.
Something negative to say about the game, IMO is about the english dub which feels really uncomfortable and inaccurate. It just doesn't match with the characters and scenes. Anyway, you can solve this by downloading for free the japanese voices from the eShop.
After all, I love so f***ing hard this game, although i would like to rather it with 10, there are some silly problems like handheld screen resolution or frame rates at some points which makes me to be objective and rate it with 9.
Anyways, it's a JRPG master piece any RPG fan should give a try.

While the game isn't as strong as the first, its still freakin amazing. The battle system has been reweorked and is much better. The overworld and story aren't as good as XC1 or XCX (overworld), but they are still very well done. The only major problem right now is the voice acting/ cut scenes. They feel very weak/cringy at times.

You can't go and compare this game to x, but seeing as it's been named a sequel to the original title, there's bound to be some comparing.

You will definitely find a lot more challenge in this game than you will in the original. The enemies are less merciful and even sometimes aim directly at showing you your place. If you think you're just going to speed through this game, you'd better think again. That level number matters and so does your equipment. Though, that can be said for both this and the original Xenoblade.

The combat is made infinitely more complex by the ability to cancel certain arts and cancel all auto attacks. There is also the ability to quickly charge some Blade Arts by simply abusing that cancel of auto attack. You coulld call this a glich, if you wanted, but with how the animation runs at times, I highly doubt they didn't know it was there. Sometimes, I'm also left to wonder how my CPU Team can still charge faster than I can, reaching tier three special far faster than should be possible otherwise.

Onto the skills themselves, your positioning once again feels extremely important for most skills. Some of it is also watching and making sure your team can follow-up to your set ups, which is telegraphed better than it ever was in the original Xenoblade, due to the fact that these skills have a tendency to be one blade and not any other, unless you want that. That's not to say that the AI is flawless, as sometimes it can go off and do something else entirely that what you planned for, but that's with everything that has them.

As for the element that's more or less absent entirely... there is no proper Armor System like there has been for the original and X. I don't understand this decision, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

I can't lie. I don't much care for Rex or Pyra's... well... "eye-catching" attire... It's fan service, but it's not the kind you want. However, it couldn't and didn't ruin the game for me.

Now for the Graphics, music, voice acting, etc.

The artists knew exactly what sort of art style they were going for, even as the art style seems to be implemented by a mix of several artists. It's anime as heckle and that's what you should go in expecting. The special effects used express this fervently, as well as make some environments more complete than they ever could have been without. Honestly, I can't see why people have a problem with the fact that this is the feel of the game, being that Xenoblade has always been anime-esque, but to each their own.

The music is INCREDIBLE. I can't praise it enough, nor get sick of it. I actually have several places in which I have left the system running merely to hear the music alone for an extended period of time. If there is any song at all that is "bad" in the entire ost, it's only because I favor others over it.

... Now for the ENGLISH voices. The guys over at Monolith knew how bad the English casting was. I say that because they put the infinitely more professional Japanese dub over as FREE Day One DLC.

I went in hoping that the rumors were false, but I found myself HATING Rex's English actor simply for the fact that he can not scream worth a cent. I sort of want to know why he got the roll of Rex, but there are plenty of other english voices that don't match their bodies or ages. So, I believe I can denominate the fact that it was simply the wrong people handling VA casting....

THANKFULLY, the Japanese Dub is better in nearly every way, making for a far more pleasing result. I say nearly, because you can't understand what they say in the after fight conversations unless you speak the language yourself and find yourself confused about the Japanese names used, for the most part. For example: Pyra is the red-hair heroine's English name, but Homura is her Japanese name.

As for the story, all I WILL to say is this: Monolith Soft has done it again and I LOVE them for it. 9/10

Prelude: I bought this game mainly because of the promo price from an online store, hype from my local country's Nintendo groups, and basically Switch doesn't have too many game choices after I am done with Zelda and Odyssey.
Honestly I actually felt regretted over this purchase in the beginning due to few reasons. BUT as I proceed through the game, I am starting to get hooked deeper and deeper.
    The plus:
    1. The story is very engaging although I dislike its pace. The story is just like watching an anime (a teen anime to be precise), get hooked by the story and the suspense all over the cut scene. The setting of the story is very fresh and cool for me too. Cloud sea, world tree, titans, salvaging….
    2. The depth of the game. The longer you play the game, the more things you will learn e.g. the VERY DEEP combat mechanics (blade combo auto attack cancel, arts cancel, blade switch), pouch items, affinity, huge item choices to match with your play style, just like your usual JRPG. It’s very satisfying to see all the skills on the affinity charts are unlocked.
    3. Waifu! We have Pyra, Mythra, Morag, etc. Nuff said.
    4. The content. Many things or places to explore. Play it and you will know about it.

    The minus:
    1. The disgustingly bad graphics in handheld mode. The graphic just looks sooooo bad in handheld mode. It’s just very bad until the extent I can’t believe this game runs on a Switch. However, it looks much better in dock mode. Anyway I am just too lazy to play in dock mode (Switch is meant to be primarily played in handheld mode right). And few hours in, you won’t be bugged by the bad graphics anymore lol.
    2. Awkward camera.
    3. Map is somehow hard to navigate for me.
    4. Childish dialogue. Again, get used to it and you will enjoy the game without any problem.
Overall the game has so much potential if the graphics in handheld mode is as good as dock mode.

The combat requires concentration, timing, and strategy in how you set up your blades and characters to fulfill different roles. The environments are expansive and colorful, full of collectibles, unique monsters and blades to find. Yasunori Mitsuda is back from Xenoblade 1 and in this respect the game is definitely on par with the original, you will want the soundtrack. I don't put a lot of stake in graphics, but the game looks great in docked mode and drops in resolution noticeably in handheld mode, but nothing else suffers any loss. Best JRPG I have ever played. The game is amazing! Would recommend to anyone that likes JRPGs and anyone that got an Switch. It has in depth characters with good story line with hours of gameplay.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a rare treat for Nintendo fans who are generally starved for RPGs, Xenoblade 2 is the perfect follow up game to BOTW as this game has large open areas, but fills them in with content unlike BOTW. The story of this game is amazing, and doesn't require you to have played the first title. All in all if you own a Switch you should try this game.

My First Xeno Series Game, Absolute shocked me from its battle system and Music and Art Design
XB2 is not the perfect JRPG for everyone, But at least it is a JRPG masterpiece for me in 2017. Thank you Monolith, Thank you Nintendo.

GIVE IT A CHANCE! YOU WON'T REGRET IT! I am typically a pc and ps4 gamer, but I do own a switch to play some essentials like your big ticket nintendo games, also because my girlfriend will actually play the switch with me unlike the other systems :). Well I have never played Xenoblade Chronicles 1, but I came onto metacritic only to read some of the user reviews for this game (IGIVE IT A CHANCE! YOU WON'T REGRET IT! I am typically a pc and ps4 gamer, but I do own a switch to play some essentials like your big ticket nintendo games, also because my girlfriend will actually play the switch with me unlike the other systems :). Well I have never played Xenoblade Chronicles 1, but I came onto metacritic only to read some of the user reviews for this game (I wanted a new switch game). I took a chance on it without expecting too much and knowing I would possibly be disappointed.

I WAS SO WRONG. Here are the main reasons why.

1.) The game is gorgeous. Don't take this with a grain of salt, yes it is a switch game, yes it doesn't look like the graphics are much to brag about at all. Plain and simple the creators deserve immense credit. The world truly feels alive, and this is the first game where I felt like using a camera application in game to take pictures of the world. The character models are pretty old school, but the attention to detail is there and the characters are still fleshed out so well it's not something that hinders the game.

2.) Story: Well I am about 45 hours into the game and I love it. The world and its history and politics and the conflicts that the world is facing are definitely interesting. The concept of drivers and blades is interesting and how it impacts combat is fantastic for games. So far the story has been emotional and engrossing yet also not predictable which is the key to really making a story that sticks. Great twists!

3.) Combat: At first I was worried, I won't lie. It seemed boring, but as the game progressed I learned that the combat had SO MUCH MORE going on than I thought. They slowly give you more and more until there are so many aspects of combat you're lost in and so many working systems that create a level of depth in the game that is addicting. Rolling for blades is fun as hell.

4.)Sound -- Soundtrack is fantastic, compositions are beautiful and varied for the different lands. My roommate comments on the soundtrack every time I'm playing. The voice acting is also fantastic, I can only say this for the English version of the game (the only one I've tried) One gripe I do have is that during battle time, the lines said by characters do get overused and I wish they would have taken out a lot of it and just let the battle music in the forefront.

Some final tidbits that I think deem comments.
-The difficulty of the game is also at a great level, your typical jrpg feel. Get to a tough part, theres ample things to do to get stronger and then ya hit it again.
-I do wish they had a better tips and info system, the system they have where you buy tips from vendors is stupid especially in a game with this much content and systems to use.

Overall an amazing game: not without a couple gripes. But it is by far one of the best games I've played this year and one of the best rpgs I've played ever. If you're a jrpg fan.. DIVE IN

A fight with an ordinary enemy whose level is slightly higher can drag on for minutes, especially if you’re fighting it alone. The combat itself is also rife with problems: sometimes main character even fails to draw his weapon, or locks onto a far-off enemy, while another already is eviscerating him in close combat. Despite some rough patches, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a worthy addition to any Switch owner's library, especially if you have a predilection for RPGs and enjoyed either of the previous entries in the series. [Issue #32 – March/April 2018, p. 75]

Extensive and massive JRPG. Although with a rather cliché story and characters, it comes with a beautiful world and a fighting system growing more and more complex with every hour played. [Issue#282]
