Windscape may look like a decent lo-fi adventure at first, but it doesn’t have much to offer beyond its initial cartoony charm. With sleep-inducing combat and an absolutely skeletal crafting system, it just does nothing to keep your attention.

I hate being too negative about Windscape, since it’s not like it was designed by a huge team or anything. It’s the work of some people who, I assume, wanted to make their own Skyrim or Zelda, and there’s nothing wrong with shooting so high. The thing is, as I said up top, there are other indie games that have aimed for that too, and they’ve shown that it’s quite possible to emulate the spirit of Skyrim and Zelda without having anything close to their budgets. So when I say that Windscape falls short, I mean that it falls short of the likes of Yonder and Oceanhorn too. Given that those games exist, you’re much better off playing them than even thinking about this.

In the end, at least Windscape's graphics are fairly snazzy and you get a super-cool shield to pair with your weapons when you craft them. The maintenance wrench actually has moving parts and the shield that it comes with has a giant gear around it that moves in sync with the wrench. If the entire game had that level of love and finesse, it could have been a real gem.

It's complete disaster. They shouldn't take money for this schook experiment.

Reviews piqued my interest, and they are true: this is a simplistic but lovingly crafted venture into Skyrim territory. Not very deep or complex but there is an undeniable charm to it all and dangit it’s just plain fun to play. The familiar open-world quest rhythm is definitely there, so if that’s what you’re looking for (like me) then you’ll have it here. It reminds me of the mid 90s PC forays into fully 3D rpg’s (except now I have a machine that can run them!). Full Review »

It mixes rpg-like game play with a Zelda-like world, however the game feels a little buggy and bare bones after a while. It's decent and worth checking out, one of the least disappointments out there. Full Review »
