Viviette is undeniably the best 2D horror game that I've ever played. Even if you don't particularly like the genre, you still might be pleasantly surprised with what Viviette has to offer.

When playing this game it is clear that its creators wanted the player to be scared. Viviette has a good atmosphere in the survival horror genre and a slow and terrifying pace.

There are too many creepy statues, too many pools of blood, and too many run-ins with the knife woman to keep up the pretense that I'm supposed to be terrified. Viviette tries to go gonzo with the jump scares and frenetic furnishings rather than showing a crumb of constraint, something that would have gone a long way to keeping the tension from the first 45 minutes or so alive through its conclusion.

Viviette's art style and visual environment, as well as the plot, are its greatest assets and major contributions at stimulating the player for exploring the game's world. Where Viviette falls short is when it comes to keeping the player's interest for longer periods of time, due to its repetitiveness, inconsistent difficulty level and rather short lifespan.

Viviette is purposefully inaccessible to all but the most hardcore puzzle solvers. Perhaps this is the point, and many will undoubtedly see this as a good thing. If you want a game to really push you to the absolute limits of memorizing a whole area to identify every hidden clue, then Viviette may be the game for you. Otherwise, it’s best to look elsewhere, since you’ll probably spend more time looking up solutions online than actually figuring them out yourself.

Apart from the wonderful 16-bit audio-visuals, Viviette turns out to be nothing more than a repetitive search for key-item after key-item, with a little bit of puzzle-solving thrown in, next to a simple horror tale that won't really creep you out that much.

If you’re looking for a game with not even a sliver of hand-holding, Viviette will scratch your itch. If you need no motivation to explore a spooky mansion, you’ll find that in the game. However, If you need either of those things even in the slightest, this is one game I would suggest you hide from.

For a 16 BitI am so glad I ignored reviews as I found this to be a fantastic little gem of a game. First playthrough took about 3 hours. For a 16 Bit Pixel art style I wasn’t expecting to be scared at all but there were a few startling surprises.

Think the stalker mechanic was done really well. Only criticism is that they seemed to linger in rooms you’re hiding in for a bit too long. It did get in the way of a few puzzles, but never derailed the experience.

Only other criticism is that a couple of the puzzles were hard to decipher; mainly due to using similar nautical and oceanic themes.

Art, sound design, music, and control all come together in a fantastic package. Characters could have used a little more development, however digging into the lore and mystery was fun and interesting.

With 3 endings and several documents to find there’s a bit of replayability. I would love to see more games in this style.

It's like an SNES horror adventure with cute but macabre graphics. This game makes great use of the Switch's screen capture feature; I used it when I came across something of interest, so recalling where things are located and which clues I needed for puzzles was a snap. Viviette isn't for everyone (if you don't enjoy classic adventure, puzzle solving, or exploration-based games, I'd steer clear). But if you're like me and you love a scary old mansion, figuring out which object to use where and well-crafted retro style games, Viviette is worth the money. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok I enjoy scary chasing and puzzles.
    But Spoiler!
It really not necessary to have the cat dead.
And the very bad ending and bad ending, because 1 it self defense to kill your sister And have it prove she kill your friends in very bad ending and go to at least crazy house, that would suck And really good for the very bad ending but nope jail even though you telling hey she try to kill me So it not cool.
Then the bad ending your sister alive and wake and don’t remember but your friends die but why the hell you still go to jail even though you told the cops your sister try to kill you why not put her into jail not you because it’s like hello it’s logical 100% and sucks because all hard work you did safe her it like wast and sad. If but it like that in both of them instead oh, you go to jail either way it stupid put it like that and it shows that this cop is stupid and it not fully explained how you got to jail like it will be a good twist and show it how and why with the evidence like a mind blowing bad and very bad ending how you did it. Instead like eh just put you to jail twist because I am lazy to come up what’s bad and very bad.
And it be will very nice to mention your friends like you really care about them instead your sister all the time 24/7 then what the point having them their besides the bad ending but it will help allot to have more care care about your friends to give more more reason for bad ending it’s like lazy work like not trying hard to feel more of the characters.
