Vektor Wars looks and sounds like what the gamers of 1982 dreamed of playing in 2019. And it's gameplay promises the best of both Battlezone and Robotron 2084.

It's easy to recommend to anyone who enjoys a pure test of arcade reflexes. As a Youtube video, anyways. As an actual game? Imagine starting each stage of Robotron with a Doom pistol. You're quickly surrounded on all sides, and
Vektor Wars looks and sounds like what the gamers of 1982 dreamed of playing in 2019.

You're quickly surrounded on all sides, and none of the enemies will die in a single hit. Some can't be killed with that weapon at all, in the brief time you'll be alive.

Now imagine the enemies all have Doom style weapons too. Between the fireballs and the rockets, all your old favorites are here, complete with the splash damage. And there's nowhere to hide.

This is just stage 3. If you don't immediately run for a weapon power-up, you are dead. If that random weapon power-up is instead a health pack or an ammo refill, you are dead. But even if you do get lucky, none of the weapon power-ups will give you enough ammunition to take out every enemy.

Your only hope is to camp near the first weapon power-up you see, and hope it returns soon. Don't even think about exploring the level, or you will die.

And did I mention new enemies can spawn in at any moment, and shoot you from behind? And they can still do this while you're responding to the last enemy that appeared out of nowhere and shot you in the back?

This isn't difficulty or challenge. It's barely even a game. Dedicated masochists with pixel perfect timing and an understanding of the game's code might get something out of this, but even they've got a long list of better options.

It's not worth a single quarter.

Rated 2 out of 10, because some fun can still be had if you only play the first level. This would make an awesome free demo.

Vektor Wars may be lacking in polish in some areas, but fans of first-person shooters are likely to find some enjoyment after pushing through its flaws.
