The minimalist greyscale style doesn't feel hacky or lazy, it works really well. I haven't run into a single animation that felt dodgy. Even moves are well telegraphed so nothing that hits you ever feels like a cheap shot.

In a mire of metroidvanias that try to emulate Dark Souls, Unworthy stands out as an exemplar. This game really hits the nail on the head in terms of being mysterious, esoteric, and haunting.

So far most weapons act as keys to new areas or enable new mobility options in some really interesting ways. You'll find yourself backtracking time and time again, never with dread, but instead the anticipation of testing out your new toolkit, and to see how much stronger you've gotten with a few levels.

It might look bland at face value but don't let the minimalism fool you, this game has an atmosphere so dense you can cut it with a knife and gameplay that is harsh but very rewarding.

Addendum edit: People might complain about the difficulty but the game is also very good about checkpoints, especially before bosses. You might get stuck on a boss for 10 or so tries but eventually you'll pick up on the rhythm. I never felt like a boss was impossible, just very hard. You'll see yourself making incremental progress until you can hit a flow state and finally have your revenge!
