Jan 29, 2024Ultimately Turnip Boy Robs a Bank is a fun twist on a familiar theme. Sure we have some hyper realistic games that allow you to be part of a criminal gang performing heists… but why play those when you can be a cute little Turnip working for some pickles firing your cactus and shaking down customers at Mr Stinky’s bank. We may not have Commander Keen or Jazz Jackrabbit anymore… but when we can still have games like Turnip Boy Robs a Bank… I’d say variety in gaming is still alive and well. If you like your life of crime with a touch of humour and edibles… grab a copy of Turnip Boy Robs a Bank!

Jan 30, 2024The secrets that unravel about Don Turnipchino Sr and the legacy Turnip Boy give the story a fun, sweet twist. This humorous playful universe doesn’t take itself too seriously, making it a genuinely entertaining adventure. The cute and silly characters, as well as the tasks and quest that unravel in the short time and distance, are just enough to make it a fun game. Although it has its ups and downs, at the end it aligns with the overall direction of the story of an anti-hero root vegetable in a quest to defeat the corruption of institutions.

Jan 18, 2024Turnip Boy Robs A Bank offers a lighthearted roguelite romp in the pursuit of Stinky’s riches, hidden within the bowels of the Botanical Bank. The gameplay loop is pretty fun, and finding new weapons to dispatch the security flora and fauna standing in the way of your heist manages to entertain, at least up until the final parts of the game. The performance on Switch also leaves something to be desired, with more detailed areas of the bank leading to noticeable frame drops. If you wanted a bit more action from your Turnip Boy escapades, this follow up might be the serving of veggies you’re craving. That said, it doesn’t quite do enough to rise to the upper echelons of roguelites already available on the eShop.

Jan 18, 2024Unfortunately, while Turnip Boy Robs A Bank is an easy recommendation based on its gameplay and visuals, the Switch version currently struggles significantly under the weight of its fast-paced mechanics and busy encounters. If there are multiple enemies on screen or there happens to be a bunch of trip lasers blocking your path, the frame rate will drop to unacceptable levels for lengthy periods, making large chunks of your heists feel like you’re moving underwater. We were told this would be fixed via a day-one patch, but it's still MIA at launch. If these performance issues were eliminated, we'd have no qualms in telling you to don your best balaclava and get ready to bag some cash.

Jan 23, 2024Turnip Boy Robs a Bank is a pretty good take on the roguelite action genre that fans of games like Enter the Gungeon will want to check out… but perhaps not on Switch. While the game itself is quite enjoyable for the most part and checks off the necessary boxes, there are significant performance issues at play here that drag down the experience. If you have another option to play it on, I’d recommend doing so. If all you have is a Switch, I think you’re better off playing a better-optimized Switch roguelite.

Jan 29, 2024Turnip Boy's second adventure is every bit as cutesy and charming as the first, with just enough existential dread to keep you on your toes, wondering what Turnip Boy will do next, perhaps it could be "Turnip Boy Runs a Crypto Scam". It's funny that despite all of the crimes Turnip Boy commits, the real crime was the state this port released in. It's still perfectly playable, and I saw no major glitches, but the performance is so awful that my recommendation is to either wait for it to get patched or play it on something else.
