What a lost opportunity. Every game must be reviewed by it's own merit, but Tiny metal tries so hard to be Advance Wars that we must compare both games in order to find what works and what not in the new game. The level design feels broken, almost all the missions have an attrition vibe where you must survive wave after wave of suicide units until victory. In fact you will see several times the victory screen without having to advance into the forced fog of war because the enemy suicide squad. The game hiccups repeatedly even in the introductory video, why? As there are not many game systems running. In fact, it feels more as a cellphone game than a console game, and that is the defining line between quality nostalgia and cash grab effort. Expand

Such a disappointment. Appealed by the Advance Wars lookalike features, I got fooled. Graphics are generic and the 3D is ultra tasteless. Text moves away without you seeing it. Combat cutscenes are a pain to look at. Story is unnecessarily complicated. So sad, I'll wait for Wargroove for a good game of the kind. It looks clearly unfinished.

    Review:

    Gameplay - 2/10
    AI - 1/10
    Art - 5/10
    Audio - 8/10
    Enjoyment - 2/10

Features - Tiny Metal at the time of this review on features a Single Player Campaign
and a not true "Skirmish Mode". When I first saw the Skirmish mode on the main menu
I assumed it was some sort of local multiplayer mode where you would be able to choose the map and
some basic settings of the battle, NOPE... Instead all it was, was some pre-set battles that you can play...
Great basically some more campaign missions without plot.

Game-play (2/10) - The game-play feels really repetitive and ultimately boring. The animated battles are repetitive and pointless
Turning off the animated battles would essentially skip through the AI's turn so a bunch of units would suddenly be moved around
and your units have taken damage.

AI (1/10) - This is mainly why the gameplay feels really boring. With any strategy game good AI would make or break it.
Especially since Multiplayer isn't a feature (as of yet...hopefully).
Simply put the AI is stupid. The number of times I've seen Ai throw Infantry against a tank is too damn high (Infantry receiving ~50% damage while Tank receive ~2-5%)

Art(5/10) - Not a big fan of the art style in-battle. Though this is subjective so won't add anymore to that.

Audio(8/10) - Text is Japanese VO , No problems here. Only issue is for English readers, The text may disapear before you can read it
As for some reason it is always on auto-continue, Not click to continue.

Enjoyment(2/10) - This is also entirely subjective though as for me, I really really wanted to love this game,
But it simply feels like a bad cash-grab, Nothing more than an Advance War wannabe.

Not worth the price. Aside from some nice illustrations here and there the graphics are muddy and overall pitifully generic. It just sucks, the creator on this a hack and fraud anyway.

The perfect game for waging adorable warfare while on the bus, on your sofa, or on your toilet.

What Tiny Metal, as a clone of Advance Wars, does unfortunately abstract things too far, to the point where there’s no real strategic depth left.

Tiny Metal is a very promising, and likely the best, attempt at replicating the successful Advance Wars formula that fans have been looking for. Although multiplayer has yet to be added to the game, and there are some minor performance issues, each of these can be taken care of with a few patches. This puts the game in a position to be great after a bit more work has been done to it, or to make an easily improved sequel.
