TOTK was exceptionally better than BOTW. More expansive, better story, longer main story content, fantastic improved weapon system, and most importantly it actually felt like a Zelda game this go around. 9/10. However my biggest gripe, korok seeds!

In future entries please remove things like korok seeds, the sign guy, and how the shrines are carried out. I get that it's a children’s game, but the puzzle experience behind these trivial things were just tedious and ultimately unrewarding. I felt Shrines, signs, and seeds were forced tutorials that you had to play through for their mediocre rewards. At this point I kinda miss that heart gems were just findable in cave, the puzzles of those I mentioned above were simply demeaning and time wasting (korok seeds especially). I get it, put the thing in the thing, get the thing to the thing, which translates to stop what your adhd focus is on and do this thing instead so you forget and wander around aimlessly after you’re done. One thing that could remedy this is to instead make the weapon storage more reliant on rare ingredients that you must find in all corners of Hyrule to check the box of needing a player to traverse as much of the map as possible. You could reward players for picking up every rock by finding exclusive ingredients like this. As for sign guy, just don’t… for the shrines make caves this type of puzzle and instead of bubbelgems make the reward heart pieces. You already got rid of Sheika shrines, might as well put caves where they were and call it a day!

In contrast, I felt the best puzzle experiences were the riddles, armor caves, and random discoveries scattered throughout hyrule (though some of those could’ve packed better rewards than **** like sapphires and ****ty weapons). These experiences felt mystical and gave me the feeling I was actually discovering something no one else had. It was absolutely an enjoyable experience!

Another thing I enjoyed was the refreshing new enemies and the return of familiar Zelda baddies. It padded out the roster that grew stale in BOTW. Even though these enemies got pretty boring after a while, I found it was enough to make an enjoyable experience filled with enough novelty to keep things interesting. The size of the game is also impressive for only 16gb of space. There are pretty much 3 maps to explore! One of them is filled with much of the same content, but it makes for a good pallet cleanser to contrast the rest of your exploration through Hyrule if it starts getting stale. The last boss felt like a real Zelda last boss, although the challenge isn’t really there. I remember some of the Zelda last bosses actually being difficult before in games before BOTW. The difficulty of this game is very high in the beginning but diminishes to severally easy once you make it past the midpoint of understanding the basic concepts of each aspect of the game from cooking, building, and fusing. That’s a big weakness, but one I don’t have an answer for except that you should make the difficulty scale with the power ups. All in all I had a fun time, even though I collected everything and felt a pang of betrayal at the lack of rewards for all my troubles. I felt the most rewarded for completing all the main story content though, and I feel the game shines with it. (My last small gripe is the a jab at the cutscenes for completing each of the big main milestones in the game… they are all the damn same… what a missed lore opportunity.)

Genius nintendo had seen everyone talking 'skyward sword' cloud kingdom, and completely hid the underworld that's is the same size as the overworld. It's focused, it's truly story driven, there is no boredom in terms of vast empty areas. The music is beautiful, the puzzles work, the annoying aspects of botw have been addressed. It's near perfect. The series is in the best possible hands with this dev. Total masterpiece. If you are looking at graphics as the make or break, don't purchase, this game is not for you. If you are driven by innovation and mechanics... masterpiece. Expand

When I heard that they were working on a sequel I was quite surprised and curious how they would work on a sequel to a game that didn't seem to be possible to improve. After the trailer with the gameplays, I was left with a divided feeling, because I thought it was too incredible, but with a feeling of concern, because the proposal seemed to be something impossible to happen on such a small console. Today that I played Zelda TotK I have the conclusion that they really delivered everything they promised and much more! They broke the Zelda BotW barrier of freedom that I didn't even think could improve, and in Zelda TotK they improved EVERYTHING! I don't want to give SPOILERS so I'm just going to say that the phrase "Sky Is The Limit" today makes even more sense in Zelda TotK Expand

A perfect sequel to an already perfect game. Everything that made Breath of the Wild great is equal to or greater in this sequel. I had my concerns going into this game, specifically regarding it losing its magic because its on the same Hyrule map as BOTW, and potentially over focusing on the building aspects that were covered in the previews. While the map of Hyrule is largely the same, it feels fresh and exciting to traverse the similar terrains. Following the events of the first game, while the outline of the terrain is similar, it feels very much like a new world to explore. In a way, it made it exciting to revisit the same areas to see how they were changed from the first game - I'm not saying this as a biased Zelda fan, if you enjoyed the first game, it truly is exciting to explore the world in this game. My other concern about the focus on the building is also not an issue, I was worried that it would take away from the exploration that I expect out of a Zelda game and turn it into a Lego game. This is absolutely not an issue, and they did a truly impressive job of allowing you to play the game your way. If you were one of the people that were really into the physics of BOTW, then this game added a ton of content for you, but if you're someone who enjoyed walking and exploring like myself, you can still do that with minimal tapping into the building physics. Truly the strongest element of this game is the ability to go about it your way. Most often there is no single correct solution to a puzzle - you just given the tools and you solve it your way, which in my opinion is far better than the awful direction that most puzzle games have gone over the recent decades where the is only ONE solution and instead of focusing on finding a solution, you are focused on thinking like the developer. They really made the shrines and puzzles fantastic in this game, and they were already pretty fun in the last game. The exploration in this game is really the best in gaming. BOTW was perfect as it was, but in hindsight there were a lot of areas that felt a bit empty. This game filled out the world to the point where you will reroute your path more times than you can count because you’re constantly getting distracted with side quests, hidden caves, interesting landmarks, random NPCs, enemy bases, etc. Although this uses the same map as BOTW, the entire world feels completely different and very well filled out. I’m 45 hours in and I have only completed one of the four main temples, probably explored 20% of the overworld map, explored a few of the sky areas (which to be fair, are a bit sparse), and only spent 30 minutes in the underworld. Depending on your play style, this will easily be a 100+ hour game (obviously you can rush through it much faster), possible 150-200, and it will truly fly by. It’s not a drag to force yourself through, it’s just satisfying exploration that is not replicated in any other game. That’s not to say other games don’t have fantastic exploration, but none of them have this sense of personal adventure like this one.

Everything that made BOTW great is present in this game. The graphics aren't the highest caliber but they are absolutely beautiful. The sound design is flawless, still among the best I've ever experienced in a game - its a beautiful balance of silence and ambient noises and very peaceful and nonintrusive piano music. The story is far more expansive and engaging than the previous game, which I found to be one of the weakest parts of BOTW. This game is absolutely among one of the best I have played. I can tell because from the first two hours of exploring the world post-tutorial, I already thought to myself that I didn't want the game to end. I want to take my time, I want to stop to explore things, I want this game to last. Its a masterpiece. The best open world game out there. I’m usually a harsh critic too, check my other reviews.

    Bien jugado, Nintendo.

In fact, since botw was such a great game, it might be for the best that we get the same major elements in a vastly newer light. And this game is indeed REALLY fun. Not one moment do you feel like you have to go searching for something new to do, like what sometimes happens in the botw late game. Just following the main story opens up infinite branches of adventures, and each branch leads to new adventures just as exciting. The map, while technically the same, is changed to such a degree that exploring it feels brand new again. That's not to mention the entire depth map (as detailed and as large as Hyrule), which is plenty to satisfy that need to discover a completely new world. If I had to say something negative of this game, it would be that the skies could be expanded further, especially considering how heavily it was featured in the marketing. However, if the only core complaint of this game is that there isn't enough of it, I think that only goes to show how amazing it is. Expand

This level of polish in an open world sandbox is a rarity in today's industry, especially on a console that for all intents and purposes should not be able to run the damn thing.

This game only gets a point off in my book because I do believe the world could have been better developed in the 6 years it had in the oven. Don't get me wrong, there is a TON to do here, but I found the two extra maps, the skies and the depths, to be lacking in one way or another the more I played. The skies, for example, are far too repetitive beyond the starting area, and the depths could've done with two or three more visual environments. However, given everything that is done right in Hyrule proper, this was hardly more than a nagging annoyance at times.

The main quests and side quests are great which is the same as exploring the world where you will find yourself finding something interesting that side tracks you almost every turn you make. Last but not least this massive open-world game adds physic breaking abilities and the game launch experience is smooth which is impressive for a game like this on the Nintendo Switch no less.

Dispelling some misconceptions, this is not a like a "DLC", totally unfair and irrational to call it such. This game is a full fledged sequel. This game had its own development cycle, the level of new content and novelty is huge. Yes, there are "recycled assets", that does not mean the developers were lazy with it. This is meant to be a sequel in the BOTW universe, so of course there will be returning characters and locations. Keep in mind that A LOT was done to revamp the map, and a lot was also added.

In case it was forgotten or not known, Nintendo made it clear after Skyward Sword that they had to go in a new direction or risk the Zelda franchise dying out, the old formula had been tapped out for novelty and creativity. It's called innovation, and if it's one thing the developers did exceptionally well with TotK, is build even more innovation on top of the previous entry.

    Solid Improvements:
    - A LOT of quality of life additions, smarter use of hub systems so you're not lost roaming around, character progression more streamlined and flexible.
    - Good story, major improvement over BOTW. More intriguing themes, more main characters. The game world is way more busy than the prequel with tons of sub plots.
    - More variety of NPCs, more in depth interactions than the prequel.
    - Combat system has been enhanced by allowing the combination of weapons with an item system, allowing for a variety of different effects/strategies.
-New mobs added and some interesting enemy designs.
-Better dungeons and a return to more traditional boss fights (no more generic blight bosses).
-Highly novel abilities and gameplay mechanics makes for more efficient travel and also allows for more fun and rewarding exploration, especially when coupled with fascinating new map features.
-New item collection systems adds extra layer to exploration and gives more incentive to adventure off the beaten path.
-Improvement on shrines, puzzle solving has more variety due to new mechanics. They are also easier to locate.
-Stable Association system has been vastly improved, much more central to character progression and story.

In terms of the cons, there are a few with the first one impacting gameplay the most:

-Outside of the towns/cities/hubs, the Hyrule field overworld is still vast with not much in between. The main challenge of the game comes in when the travelling ends up happening for extended periods. However, there are characters/quests added here and there to provide diversions when travelling, something that was almost non-existent in the prequel. Keep in mind that travelling is only ONE aspect one the game.
-Menu systems took a step back and are more simplistic. You have a greater variety of items to collect but organization is not very optimized. They do just enough, but could have been much better.
-Core combat remains largely unchanged, durability can still be a pain but it's built into the game, you're meant to constantly loot new weapons and there are now ways to enhance durability.
-Some new gameplay mechanics can at times be clunky, mainly the build mechanic. I find it gets better with more experience - majority of the time, not bothersome IMO.
-Dungeons similar to the Divine Beasts, still fun but lacking depth.
-Textures aren't ground breaking and at times performance can dip, but honestly this goes back to how Nintendo had to balance the Switch's capabilities while absolutely maxing out the game size, literally to the limit. I see it as a trade off more than anything - you need to keep this in mind. Of course graphics will be the same...BOTW and TotK are both Switch titles using the same hardware.
-Looting at times can be anti-climactic, with the reward not being worth the effort put in.
-Apparently Nintendo is down with Woke culture, more of a minor annoyance but it's in the game. Thankfully it's subtle more often than not.

In short, it's my opinion that in spite of the cons, the net sum of all that Nintendo has done to improve, innovate and build on BOTW is monumental in providing a fresh and fun experience for this Zelda outing, with replayability going up drastically. That's the reason I am giving it a 9, Nintendo has broken new ground back to back with their last two Zelda games.

In light of the FULL scope of TotK, it's a huge achievement for the Zelda franchise and a giant step forward. I think certain players are taking issue with the negative aspects of the game, and the fact that they carried over is compounding the reactions, but it's to the point where everything else is being thrown out in the overall evaluation.

If you have no issue riding over those couple of humps, then guaranteed you'll have a blast with this game which IMO is an outright classic.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game a big mix of good and bad. First off, the combat is absolutely wrecked especially in the early game. The weakest enemies in the game will casually one-shot you while the big temple bosses can't do more than 2 hearts of damage at a time. This is a huge problem and it should be the other way around. I didn't have to redo a single temple boss yet struggle in areas with normal enemies until atleast halfway through the game. Then there's the plot... There are some emotional twists and turns near the end of the dragon tear cutscenes and when you get the master sword back, but aside from that the plot is the same as breath of the wild- the princess is gone the entire game and you have to save Hyrule castle by beating Ganon. The reused assets from Botw aren't as big of an issue as some people make them out to be but there are times when it does become very obvious, however it was nice that your horses carry over from Botw. I also thought the sheer amount of outfits and the quests for them was pretty cool, and the building system is fun as hell the screw around with once you get past the learning curve as well as the new weapon making system. All in all, not bad but not the best it could have been Expand

    2. The map and many more assets are heavily reused from the previous game so this is a 50% new game at most. This game should have had a new map
    3. The graphics are poor; the resolution is greatly reduced from the native 720p in both portable and big screen modes
    4. No voice acting for most dialogs. At the very least, all main plot dialogs should have been voiced. The main character of the game is Zelda; meanwhile Zelda switches from voice to TEXT in a middle of a dialog

Overall these downsides make this game feel rather underwhelming in comparison to the previous game from the series (Zelda Breath of the Wild). Nintendo should have fixed at least three of these downsides: 1, 2 and 4. Number 3 (graphics) is impossible to fix because of old Nintendo Switch hardware. With the three downsides fixed, this game could have scored 7/10 - a solid score in my opinion, but not possible right now

It is a unique open-world game that allows your imagination to soar with its innovative construction mechanics. If you enjoyed their previous game, you will love this one even more. Tears of the Kingdom surpasses its predecessor by creating a world that no longer feels empty. The AI of NPCs has been enhanced, and the bosses are truly unforgettable.

It feels like everything from BOTW was questioned at least once and then either changed for the better or directly taken over from the sequel. This game really redifines what a sequel is without making Breath of the Wild obsolete. It has so much personality, interesting game mechanics and a huge world to explore. TOTK gives the player so much choice that it is almost impossible to be bored by it since you can always choose what to do next and pick what interests you most. This includes the WAY you play. You can decide how and when to attack enemies, come up with interesting strategies that allow for player expression like never before in a video game. it would have been a 10/10 if not for the common technical issues like frame drops and resolution dropping significantly but it doesn't interfere with the gameplay too much. However as good as this game is, I have to warn players that disliked Breath of the Wild. This game is pretty similar in terms of gameplay and if you hated BOTW you're going to hate TOTK too. Expand

Nothing to say about limited console graphics, but the gameplay and story is boring and tedious. this game had a such potential, but was wasted.

    Narrative
Story same as botw. Best part of story are locked by memories. Age of calamity had better narrative and character development.

    Gameplay
-You lose a lot fo hearts to auto-attacks
    -. +5 hearts/arrow
-Too hard to play, feels like any attack can one-shot you.
    -Shrine as progression is boring
    - No dungeons like back in the day
-No original BOTW bombs (bombs are classic)
-I have to go to menu and eat every time, dodging and jumping because I don't wanna ruin my shield with non-boss enemies.
-You have to build a lot.

    Weapons
-Removes knight fantasy, I just wanna use a real sword and real shield. Ex: Combining stone and sword to do more damage.
-I want to play fantasy game, the realism of the durability of the weapons is very disturbing, just add special feature to every weapon, like slow = +damage, fast = low damage, medium = medium damage (sword), special stats like defense, damage and speed, etc...
    -Scrolling is mandatory

Things that you could have done
-Expand the world. underground and sky doesn't count. Ex: I just wanted to explore far away from lost woods and gerudo desert, that the tribes were not in one place.
-Put weapon durability in a very hard mode.
-Heavy attacks only damage 2(+1 hard) hearts instead 8, normal attacks 1(+1 hard) instead 4.
    -Character development
-Ocarina of time has 11 dugueons and 1 mini
-More combat abilities, I was expecting hidden skills like twilight princess.
    -Materials to repair at least.
-If there is a lot enemies in the world, add more things
-Add transformations like majora's mask. After play age of calamity you could add zora, goron, orni and gerudo transformations and enemies to play around that (not all).
-Orni: Arrow damage increased and more abilities, and YOU CAN FLY
-Zora: More crowd control, less dps, + healing, SWIM UNDER WATER
-Goron: very slow, but high dps and more tanky
-Gerudo: Could be like Fierce Diety's mask but with gerudo appearance. with more strength and
    speed. (gigachad link)
    -Change the weapon's appearance
-Have a sort of order of which weapon to use next after I break.
-This is a fantasy game, add more powerful and cool stuff.
-Enchance gear and weapons with materials and stuff like age of calamity, blacksmith.

    Good points
    -Rare World bosses
    -Cool (but hard) side quests.
    -Cooking is more useful
-Some changes in map after botw events.
-New powers are good (no reason to remove all old ones)
    -Cool narrative of old hyrule.
-New champions grew up and can help you.
-You can fall from the sky with style
    -Besieged towers
    -Lighting

There is just nothing else like this out there, not even its prequel, Breath of the Wild, which ends up feeling like a beta for this game.

It may improve some the deeper you go, so, if the game can interest you long enough to keep going, have at it. There is one problem that really bothered me with the game, and then there's one devastating problem I have with this overrated piece of crap game. The problem I have is it's boring. It just wasn't fun to me with the short time I played. I've finished every Zelda game but could only play 2 hours of this, not because of the boredom, but because of the devastating problem I had with the game. The building mechanic controls of the game are so bad. Horrible even. They aren't fluid and feel so unnatural to use. And you use these controls so much that I found the game unplayable. Not to mention the crap you build never seem to work right. It's a mess for me. I gave this game a zero because it's a 70 dollar game, and with all the hype it received??? The only incentives are shrines, chests, and a couple of other things. The UNDERGROUND, which was barely advertised, is more fleshed out than the sky islands.

This is a great game and felt well thought out. It is a continuation of breath of the wild but didn’t rely on both mechanics to much and had its own interesting mechanics. It’s a 10/10 would play again

This game isn't just a "DLC" as some have stated, and is in fact one of the best games to come out in a long time in a sea of microtransaction filled games these days.

Breath of the Wild was a great game, and yet this game makes it feel like a tech demo, I won't be surprised if this game wins Game of the Year.

A vastly improved BOTW only slightly held back by the lack of music and switch graphics.

If you care about gameplay over everything else this is an excellent pick. The open world is better with more actually interesting things in it and fast travel/air travel adds a much needed QOL feature. The new fuse and physis mechanics are unique, varied and consistently fun. Temple puzzles

A game that's obviously still a work in progress: a cluttered UI, incredibly unweildy controls, and a chugging framerate ruin what could be an inspired experience. Instead, you'll be let down by PS2 level graphics and friends whose powers can't even be reliably used.

The world has been expanded with floating islands and a huge underground continent. Although these things sound amazing the sad truth is that after several hours the game is not fun to play. The story is a reincarnation of Breath of the Wild, the areas and even many characters are the same. The huge world is filled with countless tiresome tasks, the rewards you get are usually not really special or worth the whole struggle and there is a great absence of dungeons and quality moments in this game. On top of that, breakable weapons result in a non stop micro management, which takes a lot of fun away. The most nerve breaking feature by far I encountered though are the slippery surfaces when it rains.....this feature simply doesn't make sense because you will reach your destination anyway when it stops raining....Final thoughts: This definitely doesn't feel like a sequel but rather as a very big DLC or even as a remake (!) of BOTW! I can recommend this to players who are new to the series but not for people who have already played BOTW. Expand

TLDR: good for nolifers and school age teens. Everyone else, move on you will be disappointed and repelled.

I am going to start by admitting that I didn't finish the tutorial section of the game... and there is a good reason for that, I have a life with a wife, children, pets, a job and real friends and family. The tutorial appears to take 4-5 hours of very motivated and knowledgeable players. Imagine now being a regular person who just wants to enjoy a few games on the side of a very busy life. 4-5 hours turns into 4 weeks. Which turns into a waste of time and money. I cannot imagine the amount of time wasted in progressing the story given the game mechanics for a reasonable adult: we are talking of committing 100% of your free time to that piece of junk.

Now, I have played openworld games before with more than a thousand hours under my belt, but this game is not openworld (even nintendo admitted that it is the case, it wants to give the feeling of freedom but still the user is railroaded subtly to progress the story with the one inescapable ending). It's a cleverly scripted close world with a pointlessly large map used as a distraction where the user is constricted to do what is expected in a way that mimics freedom. There is no consequence to bad actions, you cannot progress the game unless you perform the actions required by the developers. It's like being railroaded: you can move sideways, up and down, as much as you want, but there's only one entrance and one exit to the room you are in. Another analogy is the game is like a series of skipping ropes: you have inescapable nodes and outside of that you can do whatever you want, it's pointless and adds nothing to the game. The tutorial, again, demonstrates perfectly the issue.

Now for the game technical aspects: visually the game is just a mess, the textures are laughable the cel shading is applied unequally and mostly, the game should not be using cel shading the way it does: particle elements, water and effectively distant background are rendered unceled whereas the character and some close environment elements are celed. Unless again you are very young, the graphic may make you sick or disoriented. It's very reminiscent of early 2000 games and cel shading is just used to hide the fact the console is outdated and the game is unoptimizable. Played on handheld mode or tv mode, the game is still incredibly hideous. Those who claim the game is beautiful are just lying to themselves. Additionally, for a game that appears to be heavily based on its predecessor, the frame drops are just inexcusable and forget choosing a more performance based rendering, it is not an option. I forgot to talk about the shadows, the time of day management, etc: this should not be in a 2023 production at this price point.

The game mechanics mix minecraft with creation and building elements from other games like fallout 4, or fortnite. What is this game? Is it a RPG, or a minecraft derivative? it's not a RPG as there is no consequences, just going onwards and upwards to save zelda. It's not adventure (you cannot avoid the minecraft elements unless you want to progress and you are railroaded subtely), it's not action (you don't have any of the basic capacities in available in current action game like rolling, straffing, etc and you must craft and use powers). You cannot remap the controls and the options listed in the menu are basically decorative. Again, it's an openworld in which you have no choice but to do what you are told otherwise you do not progress, and that is shown with the use of the powers, building, etc. The lifespan of the "weapons" is hilarious, just to show that you must craft more and grind.

Another element of this openworld, is the management of the inventory: an real openworld game would set strong limits not 20/20/14, this large limit exists for people to grind. People have been talking about creativity in this game. What does creativity mean in an action-adventure openworld game?

The control lags, control precision, camera management show this game is poorly developed. There is also no grading of difficulty, which is a strong indication this game is just made to railroad users who like to grind.

One element made me laugh: voice acting. Either use it, or don't use it the developers did not know how or when to use it. And it's hilarious. Same goes with the grunts or the "etheral music" which is not whimsical, it's here to mask the utter lack of sound stage design.

I almost forgot: if you need to watch youtube videos from nolifers to understand what to do next, this game is not well designed. Do I want to watch 5 hours of YT to know how to complete the tutorial, totaling 10 hours wasted, no thank you.

At the end, is this game good? No, it's made for a demographic who has time to waste grinding like they were working on a factory floor and who lies to themselves to justify wasting money on an early 2000 product released in 2023

I'm sad. I love Zelda. I am a Zelda fanatic. But this game doesn't deserve all the hype it's getting. Hateno Village, Kakariko Village, same location same music same people. The underground is mostly barren. There's enemies sure, and the same exact amiibo outfits from BotW are scattered around the underground. The sky is just more shrines. No new cities. Nothing crazy. The temples are the best part. And the characters. Seeing the characters 3-5 years later is fun. 3 of the 4 temples are amazing, albeit a bit too easy. We are also still missing a lot of classic Zelda pieces. Where is the triforce? Where are the intricate side stories? Where is the graveyard and dampe? Where is lon Lon ranch? So much is missing ... Lots of confusion. In ten years we will view BOTW and TOTK as a single package rather than two distinct Zelda titles. And I think I have an issue with that, personally. Expand

Além disso, o jogo apresenta uma variedade de puzzles, e quase todos eles são interessantes. Você pode encontrar diferentes maneiras de resolvê-los..

A trilha sonora é envolvente.

No one's here to read a college thesis, so I'll knock this one out, good/bad/ugly style (ugly being things that I wasn't a fan of but that don't affect the overall score).

    The Good:
-if you liked BOTW, you'll be happy to know all of its mechanics have essentially returned.
-the new runes are mostly pretty good and shake up exploration in inventive ways.
-the remixed overworld isn't perfect, but I am willing to admit they did more than I expected them to.
-the new areas are pretty cool. Spelunking is really fun.
-the dungeons, as the game calls them, are generally a big improvement on the Divine Beasts.

    The Bad:
-if there were aspects of BOTW you didn't like, you'll be disappointed to know that every single core mechanic has returned.
-using Ultrahand for building (it has other uses, which are fine) sucks. Stray from what the game *wants* you to make and it will rarely ever work. Just make bridges. They're funny and they actually work.
-while it doesn't come into play often, there are parts of the world where it's very clear the game wasn't built with your toolset in mind. (hint: because it was built for BOTW's toolset)
-the story is almost laughably bad. Same minimalistic approach as BOTW but with a far worse script. Ganondorf deserved better.

    The Ugly:
-no matter what the game calls them, these still aren't dungeons as Zelda fans know them. The Divine Beasts weren't terrible, but they left me feeling hungry for something better. Dungeons in this game are basically the Divine Beasts without the control mechanism. They are generally better, though.
-they took whistle-sprinting out. While it was a glitch and did need to be removed, it was really handy for getting around quickly. Having nothing replace it is really unfortunate.

Overall a fun game, but six years and $70 is a big ask for what we ultimately ended up getting, which largely does play like an DLC rather than a proper sequel. Not in terms of scope (the game definitely has scope), but in terms of what the game actually is.
