Wow! I can’t believe that I would ever give a Zelda game such a low rating. But honestly after playing Zelda for 30 yrs I can honestly say I miss the old style of Zelda gameplay. I like the open world but, I HATE WEAPON DURABILITY. I also don’t really care for the new fusing of things. The new game isn’t for me and I won’t be buying the next game if it’s more of the same. Its just an expensive dlc of botw. The beginning (tutorial) has a lot more fun than the rest of the game. The map its just the same, there is not discovering...underground are bored and repetitive and sky islands...better call it sky rocks...tiny...etc. The new powers are fine but not su much are they think.

Loved the cell shade art style and the lively villages full of interesting people. The open world is full of interest. Many times I set out to do something, but found myself wandering around from place to place, checking out various things that caught my interest in the open world and completely forgot about my original objective. Controls are smooth and precise, but takes a while to get a grip on how to use all of the abilities. I was probably 30hrs in before I was comfortably using the abilities, and still messed it up from time to time throughout the game. The user interface was much improved over Breath of the Wild, but could have used further quality of life enhancements such as remembering favorites for crafting a fire with pine cone or only showing relevant items for cooking, fusing to arrows instead of managing large menus with each item every time. Music is amazing. It really enhanced the feel of each place you visit and gave each space an identity. Performance was not bad as well, I didn't experience any crashes or major glitches. The only issue I had performance-wise was the frame rate dropped quite a bit, especially in areas with lots of vegetation. Overall, could not recommend this game enough whether you are a open world sandbox fan, or want to try one out for the first time. Anyone who liked Breath of the Wild should be pleased with all that was built on top of it with Tears of the Kingdom. Expand

The way this game took the story and world left off from breath of the wild and turned it into something so fresh yet nostalgic is nothing short of phenomenal. They created a story that expands outside of that in the previous game in all directions. The world is deeply enriched not only on the surface with many new shrines, caves, and updated towns, but fully new maps in the sky and depth. One of the most impressive things of all is the physics mechanics build for this game. Zonai devices such as hover stones, stakes, fans, springs, and so much more help the player have the freedom to explore the world and make creations all their own. Expand

When going into this game, I had previously played breath of the wild, which I considered my favorite 3D Zelda game and this was coming from years of experience with twilight princess, majora’s mask and even the legendary Ocarina of Time so going into breath of the wild I had to treat it as something different as a grand journey and ultimately I had an unforgettable experience. Tears of the Kingdom is taking what made breath of the wild phenomenal and evolving it to an even higher state of being taking what made the creativity and the wonderment of simply exploring this vast world the new abilities, the sky islands, as well as the expansive underground system made so many people realize that is always something to see, do and all at your own pace as tears of the kingdom isn’t about a destination, but rather the journey itself to it, and that journey is how you do a sequel. It is how AAA development should be done going forward in regards to open world games, each of the brand, new abilities, breathing life into the world like you’ve never seen before and ultimately how your journey ends is up to you as this is a masterpiece of a title that will inspire many developers to come, Now when it comes to the story telling, easily up there with the best the legend of Zelda has to offer, with each and every character involved to paint this wonderful canvas of a world to be as emotional, impactful and most importantly engaging from start to finish Expand

After 6 years, the only thing this game has going for it is the original stuff from Breath of the Wild. This makes the game feel like a retread of the original, but with worse runes and one of the worst main stories of any Nintendo game I've ever played. Those temples are terribly designed. All in all, play the original. This one is skippable.

Being able to create machines with Ultrahand allows for some incredible and useful contraptions to help with otherwise tedious jobs. The storyline is one of the best out of all video games and the physics are incredible. I also really enjoy all the new additions to the world, such as the mysterious caves, the diverse sky islands, and the hostile Depths. Tears of the Kingdom es el mejor videojuego que he jugado nunca. Empecemos.

En resumen, juega Tears of the Kingdom.

With the inclusion of the Zonai devices, there seems to be no limit on how to go about discovering this vast open world. I’ve been playing it since release and still have not done everything. I love the return of proper dungeons, but I do wish there was more of them. My one gripe is what I feel as a clunky system to fuse weapons, shield, arrows and the like. You have to scroll through a slew of items in the quick menu to find the one thing you want to fuse, or find it in the main menu, hold it, drop it in game, then select the option to fuse. Doesn’t feel intuitive. But! Other than that, this game is damn masterpiece, and very much a Game of the Year contender for me! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everything I ever really wanted, I liked Botw but to me it had some big flaws, lack of real dungeons, lower enemy and boss variety, and at times kinda empty map. Not only do you get dungeons back, you get caves which are basically mini dungeons in their own right, same with shrines. The reintroduction of like-likes, gibdos, and what are basically floor masters, and basically kargaroks, really round out the enemy variety, the reintroduction of gleeoks and gohma is awesome and all the other new bosses are real fun as well, story was great, I often felt more rewarded when completing a side quest as the rewards were often more worthwhile, side quests were much more memorable than Botw. It’s just better in every way, and then you add on, sky island and depth exploration, as well as weapon fusion and building and there’s no doubt in my mind that this game is a masterpiece. Expand

This game was a lot more BOTW. If you liked BOTW, you'll like TOTK. I unfortunately did not have the creativity or the energy for getting much out of the building system, nor does the game really require you to use the system much. The game fix any of the issues I had with BOTW, mainly the weapons breaking after 1-2 kills.

The voice acting is just as bad as in BOTW for most characters (Rauraru and Zelda specifically), made worse by there being even more voice acting. There's no standout performances, but Tulin and Ganondorf are acceptable.

Performance was abysmal overall. Using the God Hand power would drop my Switch to what felt like 15-20 fps. The fire temple also ran at about 10 fps the entire time.

Was it awful? No. Was it my GOTY? Not remotely.

I had high hopes for it and was brimming with excitement, especially after falling in love with BOTW. However, what I encountered was a mere replica with an excessive emphasis on farming and grinding, making it less enjoyable. While I do commend the level of freedom granted for weapon crafting and vehicles, the mechanics underlying these aspects feel remarkably cumbersome. It always seems like you're awkwardly piecing things together, and the game doesn't become engaging until you finally acquire a few batteries. Yet, the process of obtaining them is far from enjoyable, requiring three Zonaite just to obtain a single Crystallized Charge, and an astonishing 300 for a mere one-third battery upgrade. The substantial time investment in this farming aspect is simply not fun.

Furthermore, performance issues plague the entire game, which is surprising given that many reviewers appear to overlook these problems. It's evident that these issues, if present in any other game, would have garnered severe criticism. When i looked for advice online i found some players telling me to "Set TV output in the System Menu to 480p. and only play on docked mode"... I am no graphic whore by any means I swear to you but I suppose I can expect more than that in 2023, especially after they raised their prices specifically for TOTK knowing we will buy it anyway. Adding to my disappointment, the game's structure mirrors that of BOTW precisely. The novelty that once existed seems to have dissipated, likely contributing to my disenchantment. The puzzle rooms also got stale pretty quickly this time around. While I'm still intrigued by the future of the Zelda series, I earnestly hope for an innovation that delivers a completely fresh experience this time around. However, considering the overwhelming success of TOTK, I'm wary of setting my expectations too high. I realized that my score might seem harsh but ultimately the game was disappointing to me to the point where I almost dropped it before the very end so here we are!

Ainda assim, Tears of the Kingdom faz parte do roll de jogos categorizados como "must-play" do Nintendo Switch!!

Once again Nintendo has done its thing again, it has given us a practically complete game, a game to beat would be somewhat unfair, it is the first time that I have seen so many mechanics and new experiences that it is amazing, be careful, I do not declare myself a fan of Zelda but after playing this title I have completely fallen in love, for me it is the game of the year 2023... for several reasons. The soundtracks, the cinematics, how you connect with the characters, the new abilities like ultra-hand, combining weapons with objects whether they are consumable or not, infiltrating through the ceilings, that's wild. Ganon's new appearance seems majestic, worthy of a king, it reminds me a lot of Ocarina of Time. I think the symbology is one of the strongest points of this game and once again this title deserves the game of the year. Expand

And of course the insane build mechanics they’ve implemented just takes this game to a whole other level of entertainment! It’s like a game within a game and inside those games, there’s another! The main boss fights and dungeons also felt like a major upgrade from botw, although the dungeon puzzles still weren't to the level of something like A Link to the Past, so I would've liked some more interesting puzzles. Considering that link had such interesting abilities in this game, they could have had Portal level puzzles if they wanted to tbh, although I guess they wanted to keep the game accessible to younger kids too. Another thing I would've liked is if they had more challenging shrines and also some more spots in the overworld to really use Link's abilities. Like mainly I would just use recall every once in a wall to throw a boulder back at an enemy or I might use ultrahand to make the world's most simplistic boat, but i feel like they could've had more interesting puzzles link might just come across in the environment that would make the player think a bit further outside of the box. But that's a pretty minor complaint, and it was overall a really really enjoyable experience. Expand

Zonai technology isn't available enough, so i end up walking around for hours trying to find a control stick so i can actually build something. There are a heap of other problems, including the story. The story is already not the best, but the entire plot twist got ruined for me because I watched the memory from lurelin village which quite literally directly showed me that zelda was a puppet. All the memories about immortal dragons and then finding a dragon with zeldas hair and the master sword sticking out of it spoiled that. Anyways im sick of writing this review, i have even more issues with the game but overall it was a very unenjoyable experience, especially coming from BOTW. Expand

Then there is the fact that there is a whole area of the same size underground and a much smaller but still great area in the sky and is becomes almost unbelievable that this is running on the Switch.
Still, that is not without its problems, as the game is 30 fps with constant framedrops, which is a shame, as it really detracts from the experience.
Nevertheless, this is a world worth exploring. There are NPCs and field bosses and interesting quests at every turn. You 100% get sidetracked all the time because there is just so much to do.
The physics are impressive. So many shrines rely on you solving puzzles and they can all be "cheated" by exploiting the game's systems, it is wild and sparks creativity.
The building mechanic is quite impressive as well, but I have to say a lot of the time it is difficult to make it work. A lot of the contraptions are kinda wonky and it takes a long time to build something more stable, especially without autobuild just doing it for you out of the schematics.
The companion mechanic is kinda bad, it seems half-baked. Activating their abilities should be tied to a menu, instead of you having to turn the camera to find and run all the way to them whilemashing A, and they should help out in combat more. I don't know if it's a better mechanic than the abilities in BotW.
The story is a bit mixed. It's good, but very repeated from BotW and due to the non-linear aspect of the game, you kinda have the same experience(story-wise) whenever you do a regional main quest, the characters don't react to the things you already know, which is especially jarring after you learn about what happened to Zelda.
However...the ending is superb. From the moment the Ganondorf fight starts to the end, it is just out of this world. Both great in scope but also a tearjerker. I have not felt this good after a game ending in a long while.
All in all, a fantastic game, worth of all the praise and will be remembered as one of the great titles of the Switch.

THIS is how you make a sequel to already one of the best games there is. There's so much stuff to do. It single handedly upped the ante for open world games, even after Elden ring did so last year. The story is better then BoTW and there is an actual endboss now that is not a total pushover but a force to be reckoned with. It does everything BoTW did, but better with even more freedom.

-Giant open world, filled to the brim with things to do, characters to talk to, and landmarks to see.
-A calming atmosphere with great narrative moments that expand and explore Hyrule.

    What I see:
-A monotonous, over complicated inventory full of **** you will never need. Making every single action in this game an absolute chore to execute. Fusing items not only looks ridiculous but just adds another unnecessary step to a combat system that was already pretty annoying to begin with.
-I hate when games go "open world", because i know it's just going to be me looking at the back of my character just running around 60% of the time. No game has done it quite like Bethesda, and unfortunately Tears of the Kingdom falls into more of those "Open World" pitfalls, even more so than it's predecessor. Granted there is more "content" in this game, but it's mindless and unfulfilling busy work. The lack of NPC's and proper story telling really hold this game back for me.
-Don't @ me but the soundtrack felt...lazy, not atmospheric. There is a difference. Windwaker is atmospheric, OoT is atmospheric. Probably a subjective opinion but mine nonetheless.

I see people giving this game good scores and still pointing out these flaws about the game, IMO the score you give should reflect your full opinion. I think this game is a 7 in all honesty. It's the most "fine" I've ever felt about a Zelda game. I am a little bias in saying i hate this formula, but i at least enjoyed Breath of the Wild. There was something about the original that didn't feel overwhelming and encouraged me to collect cool items and talk to people. The world felt more alive, and featured a FAR MORE interesting cast.

Haven't had this much fun for this long with a game in a loooong time. The game is just gigantic in terms of content and is as far as I'm concerned the most creative and original open world rpg that exists to date. The ghibli like easthetics are fantastic and match well with the series.

This game is phenomenal, it doesn't reinvent the open world formula like Breath of the Wild did, but it does things that no other game has dared to do for over 30 years. Being able to interract with everything in a world full to the brim with things to do and find multiple ways to use every item you come across makes every interraction in the game very rewarding. This game is not perfect, the sage abillities are clunky and not super well thought out and performance drops occasionally, but it still remains at the top of the list of games that do nearly everything right. A step up from its predecessor. I had a lot of fun with this one. I appreciated the new fusing mechanics that made weapon durability almost a non-issue for me and made bow combat such a thrill. The new powers were so fun too. The depths were disappointing for me though. They lacked polish compared to the rest of the world in my opinion.

This game is the perfect example of adventure and entertainment. Every Zelda game is a great game, but this one (+ Breath of the Wild) has probably the real and true spirit of this lovely saga.

The story is more epic than ever, and the main characters are more complex and intense than BOtW.

If you love videogames, nature, friendship and adventure, this is your game.

Absolute perfection as far as adventure games goes.
Frame Rate could be much better.

My main concern prior to playing was that Tears would feel more like an expansion or DLC than a true sequel. The pre-existing overworld remained, and the visuals appeared mostly unaltered.

These fears were (mostly) dispelled after a few hours of playtime. The game encourages you to think and improvise in a way that few others have done before, including BoTW. The world is truly vast,

These fears were (mostly) dispelled after a few hours of playtime. The game encourages you to think and improvise in a way that few others have done before, including BoTW. The world is truly vast, probably twice the size of the original and the sense of freedom is intoxicating. You won’t get more than a few minutes into a task or journey before becoming distracted with something new, and yet somehow the game never feels overwhelming.

The Sky Islands are beautiful and awe-inspiring, The Depths are vast, despite having a repetitive procedurally-generated feel about them.
Some of the new concept mechanics are ingenious in a way that only Nintendo could conceive, and must be experienced first-hand to fully appreciate their brilliance.

I would point out however that the game has failed in doing what all great sequels are in fact required to do: and that is to address its predecessor’s shortcomings:-

The clunky and banal combat system, the tedious cooking routine, overly brittle weapons, feeble voice acting and occasional FPS issues are a few examples of drawbacks which remain unrectified.

It’s a very fun and inventive game, easily a top 5 Zelda title without question, but in my opinion has failed to show sufficient separation from an already imperfect first title to be considered an all-time great.

I wasn't sure how Nintendo would find a way to top their work in Breath of the Wild back when it came out, but I feel they have here – with years of more polish applied and refined exploration. [Issue #66 – July/August 2023, p. 71]

The good thing is that, thanks to the limited possibilities, the creators couldn't go crazy and swing for hundreds of game miles. Instead, they created what could be called Elden Ring in a travel pack. [Issue#328]

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
