Fun game but copied most of things from BOTW and Switch hardware holds it back. It shouldn't be sold as $70 because it feels more like an expansion than a full game.

I'm climbing mountains while taking advantage of the new mechanics and it's a blast. Going through the main land and discovering the changes in landscape from BotW is a great time killer. I wish they would have changed more of the landscape but then again keeping the land the same as the previous game is a nice change from Nintendo. Last but not least, one thing to remember is when you create such an amazing game, you will always have those haters trying to gain clout by trashing it, deep down they know they absolutely love this game. Nope, magic dance and finding seed, in very repetitive ways.
then there's the NPC's that transform into mega annoying enemies that don't give you much useful stuff. what does that teach me nintendo? it teaches me that I get punished for talking to NPC's, so naturally, I don't feel safe to talk to NPC's any more. genius move.
Oh yes, then there is the GODDAMN GATHCA MACHINE, which has me wasting the resources I collected, just to try and get one of each item, I don't play games for gambling mechanics, this is reprehensible.
The amazing stuff you can make, disappears if you walk too far from it, some of them even disappear midway through using them.
If you want to ride a horse to travel faster, you can't use fast travel because the horse can't fast travel, except that is, if you go to a stable, where it can then be teleported from one stable to another... there is no logic to this.
I go to trouble of exploring, to see if I find something interesting, and what's my reward? another bloody shrine, where i can solve a puzzle to get a light orb, to go to a statue, to choose either heart or stamina.... another convulted bit of BUSYWORK, rather than actually finding tangible things in the world like heart pieces.
zelda used to be fun exploration that had a sense of discovery, but I don't feel much DISCOVERY from finding another damn shrine, or whatever collectable or currency is flavour of the moment.

This game is the disappointment of the year. I got it for free to test it and following all the hype I expected something great but what I ultimately got was nothing more than bad.

There are some positives; the game looks nice and the environments have a nice vibe to them. Furthermore, exploration is fun and the combination mechanisms are innovative and have a lot of potential. The allow for some really creative approach but are restricted by the clunky controls quite a bit (see next part for more on this). Too often a valuable building part falls down into the void and is gone until the game is restarted. That's not too bad though because it gives a sense of caution.

The music is decent and sound effects fit the ambiance well but neither are something special. Voice acting is well done for the few spoken lines there are, but again, Link doesn't respond verbally to anyone.

If that was everything about this game, it'd probably get a 7 or 8 score but the combat and the controls is what's the real catastrophe. They're just bad, really bad.
First and foremost, who'd though putting the "run button" on th topmost button was a good idea. Not only does it hurt my hands but it also blocks access of the other face buttons. It's also so unintuitive, as other similar games have the run command on the downmost button, a shoulder button or the right analog stick.

Even worse is the combat itself. While it doesn't help that everything breaks on you in the almost worst possible moment, switching weapons and gear is a chore in how the buttons are configured. That's as unintuitive as running. I'd rather open a menu and scroll through it then pressing two buttons while trying to choose the right weapon with a third one.

Finally, the biggest no-go for an action-orientated game the complete absence of an "evade button". You can block attacks with a shield, but if you don't have one you're screwed. Because there is no dedicated evade method you have to run to not get hit, using that stupid button layout, while also trying to get closer to attack. That results in getting hit by enemy attacks a lot, because they have a god-like precision and many hit like a truck, even with a literal pebble causing you to have to deal with even more unintuitive menus to access healing items.

    Conclusion:
I can't recommend anyone to play this game at all because combat and controls are abysmal. Even the most difficult Souls-likes have much better gameplay and are more enjoyable despite their difficulty.

The story is very bland, and while the few dungeon areas and bosses are much better than BOTW, they are a tiny part of the game, and trivial to solve//beat.

Building things is fun for a few minutes, then you realize you have to remake them whenever you go anywhere like inside of a shrine, and it is way faster to run or glide. The battery power makes any machines essentially useless for anything other than novelty, if you want to actually use a contraption you need to spend a LOT of time grinding to upgrade your batteries, you will not get a reasonable amount of power just by playing or progressing through the story.

Overall this game is like a BOTW + mod, it adds some things, and some of them are interesting, the gameplay is still the same and pretty solid, but it feels like the same game all over again. The rewards are things you already had in the last game, only a few people remember you, and nothing is nearly as exciting to explore as you have already been there in BOTW.

This game is not bad, it is fun and enjoyable to play, however it is extraordinarily disappointing if you have played through Breath of the Wild.

You would have to consciously decide to spend 10 minutes building a car when you could just walk over there in 2 minutes. My favorite franchise turned its mainline games into an open world gimmick and instead of the fans rejecting it like they should’ve, it was pandered too. I can only hope that Nintendo paid for and manipulated social media influencers to act like the game was an evolution for the franchise and the sheep did the rest. If not, then you got what you deserved with this game. Waste. Expand

An action RPG where you have to sift through menus during fights and not to make tactical decisions but because your weapon breaks 4 times in a fight against 3 enemies. In what world are we rewarding such a stupid mechanic with high praise. Also, it took 6 years to basically sell you the same game with some updated physics and skydiving.

this might be a good development from botw if the game was balanced and the combat system truly thought out, but coupled with input lag, stubborn predictive pathing that makes you do things you never pressed the buttons for, and the fact that so many of the regular enemies are just irritatingly strong bullet sponges, it just makes for a highly frustrating experience with very inconsistent behavior that makes every combat entirely 1 sided. the fact that i can't really make healing items anymore just adds to this, since i'm not realistically able to prepare for difficult combat in the way that any other game in the series would allow. if they wanted to make this more similar to older zelda games, then they should stop making it so difficult to stock up, since it's ALWAYS been easy to collect a bunch of fairies or potions in every single entry prior to this. the fairy fountains don't even work right on the sky islands, since our companions will scare them away even if the fountain doesnt have a built in rocket archer that immediately makes them leave as soon as we arrive, whether we kill it or it shoots at us.

the majority of quests, main or side, are outrageously bugged, the rewards for minibosses are often just useless amiibo drops that nintendo made stop working since botw, the visuals are decidedly more gloomy, less detailed, and lower contrast, there are far too many obnoxiously slow and repetitive cutscenes, NPCs talk WAY too much and say completely pointless and convoluted things that make it seem like the creators were trying to show off their middle of the road english skills, and all of these aspects make totk's hyrule a place that i simply don't feel enthusiastic about exploring. this game is more of a headache than a source of relaxation or entertainment, and that's really disappointing given just how many years nintendo had to make a finished sequel out of a world and platform that they had already made 90% of. yes, there is still a lot of cool stuff in this game, but it's just buried under a heap of unfinished jank. the developers CLEARLY saw how bad the recent pokemon games were and decided they didn't need to bring any kind of integrity to this new project.

TLDR: if they don't patch this heavily, i'm never buying another zelda game, and it's really messed up that they are screwing with my childhood like this. i guess i can always go back to ocarina of time romhacks.]

Nota 0? Nintendo created an excessive open world and wanted players to go everywhere, but in order to archive that they had to introduce mechanics that solely exist for the purpose of creating unnecessary grinding. That's why breakable weapons were introduced, and you can not find any rupees, you have to go in the caves to mine rocks, but all caves are nearly the same.
When you can go everywhere from the beginning, all sense of progression is lost and the game becomes meaningless.

The negatives: The open world is too large, it wastes players time. Nintendo should have concentrated on content instead of an excessive open world.
The game has not much content, when we take away the open world and the minigames (shrines), the only 4 very small dungeons main quest is pretty lackluster and leaves much to be desired.
When playing Tears of the Kingdom you get the impression that creating clever dungeons that are based on a rewarding progression system and a good combat system were to hard for the japanese developers, therefore they had to replace it with shallow repetitive content which can be seen by the shrines, many of which the developers not even cared enough about to include any minigame, and the 900 korok seeds, which only add to the repetitive uninspiring gameplay.
The game has it's moments like the gleeok design which looks awesome, but at the same time the developers went out of their way to add fog and bad weather to the game so the players can not enjoy the little bit of good graphics the game would otherwise have to offer on the already weak switch hardware.

Overall Tears of the Kingdom is not a good Zelda game, it's not even a good game as with only 4 mini dungeons it lacks unique story content, which was compensated in the worst possible way by going with endless repetitive minigame shrines, korok collections and an too big map with nothing unique to do, according to the motto: quantity over quality.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Chose qu'ils avaient bien réussi à faire a l'époque avec les Ocarina of time etc...
