The performance issues in Tears of the Kingdom are majorly masked by the exceptional presentation and engrossing explorative experience that it offers.

Super rough start except for some cool moments. that initial sky area does NO service to the rest of the game. I had so many frame rate issues there and jumping out into the island after the title plays was just embarrassing for the switch frankly. really glad it improved after that A LOT. seemed that once i left that area the frame rate and visuals improved to a standard I am happy to look at. gameplay is great 90% of the time when your free of that evil island. after much play I am willing to sacrifice that first area and say it is far better than breath of the wild so far but could be improved drastically in many ways and doesn't feel quite as "thought out" as BOTW did but is better none the less through quality of life features if nothing else. It is a great game but that makes the bad things REALLY stand out because most of it is a real masterclass in exploration. For example: i gotta say it. The depths are really boring... such a shame I really enjoy my time with the game but I'm spending most of my time on the surface or the sky cause every time i go down there i feel none of the joy of exploring. what over there? dunno. can't see it. lacks all of the "oooh what's that" that the surface and sky have. feels barren probably intentionally but that doesn't mean that it isn't deathly boring down there. I cannot emphasise enough that the land and sky are as great to explore as ever though once you are let loose. so much to do and try. I've done a lot of side adventures/quests too and they have all been fun and and worth playing.
story wise I think it's more interesting than the first game so far. I like time travel stuff but all the dialogue is like they got the janitor to write it. I think the voice acting is uhhhh not the type I enjoy? anyway I just don't vibe with it i don't really know what you'd call this style of voice acting but the script 100% didn't help anyone. very much personal preference stuff and I think i would have been far more willing to overlook it if the script was better.

basically it's better breath of the wild but it has problems that stick out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the games excellence. Will be much better if they make an enhanced version at 60fps on "Switch 2" and improve the depths with dlc or something.

Hey Mr Nintendo add in proper ocean swimming and exploration next time? hmm? for me?

If I gave Zelda BOTW 10/10 I decided to give 9/10 to TOTK because there is nothing revolutionary, this revolution was done by BOTW and it deserved 10/10 Nintendo was rude to experiment and did a perfect job.

For that TOTK just improve some details on BOTW but not revolutionary at all

With side quests that will take you across all the maps, you will always have something to do. In addition to the amazing story that is lifted even further up by the extraordinary voice acting, and memorable music, Tears of the Kingdom’s story will be one that people will look back at as a classic. Not to mention, the unique gameplay mechanics, such as fuse and ultrahand to help each player have an experience that is specifically unique to them. With so much to do in this game, the seventy-dollar price tag is definitely worth it and is a must for the Nintendo Switch. That being said, I am rating The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom a nine out of ten. Expand

TotK is also a technical masterpiece achieving a level of interactivity that few games could, even in PS5 and Xbox. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I legitimately can not understand people reviewing this game. Most as far as I can tell are in two camps "It's not a Zelda game therefore it's bad" (which would normally be fine but they base there reviews as if they're ranking against other zelda games), and two "It reuses too much of the previous game". I have played this game for at least 50 hours now and I have completed maaaaybe a third of this games available content, and I've completed about half of the main story, not once did I ever feel like "Man, I've seen these land formations before" or "I've done this before". It just doesn't happen. The sky islands, the depths, the very way you traverse the world is completely different.

Some people dislike the building aspects, it's a fairly minor role outside of shrine puzzles, which is when the building aspects shine the best as creative problem solving. I can understand not liking it, but the game doesn't require you to interact with it pretty much 99% of the time outside of it. You can explore exactly how you did in breath of the wild. Climb up a cliff, paraglide off a cliff, swim up a river, ride your horse. However for those who want to do DOPE **** you can build hoverbikes and cars and boats and death machines and it's very fun to tie a rocket to a korok and launch it to where it needs to go.

Durability is back, and while I liked it in breath of the wild, it's kinda a non issue in tears of the kingdom. Yes weapons break, but you get so many monster parts for a single weapon that it feels like you always have powerful weapons ready to go, which helps encourage you to actually fight monsters rather than just avoid it to prevent weapon damage. The game gives multiple fuse parts which helps you decide what resources you're willing to spend, so if enemies are clumped together, using a bomb flower on an arrow to finish the fight faster is something you'll consider very naturally.

The dungeons still aren't dungeony enough for me, they still behave more simmilar to divine beasts. However, this does not mean the temples aren't fun, they're still designed to take advantage of breath of the wilds unique freedom of movement. The story is also way better than breath of the wild it constantly has you asking questions and it's a genuine joy to receive memories to unlock a little bit more of what exactly happened.

Peak around the corner there's a falling rock to take you to a sky island, there's a chasm to jump in, another cave another well another pack of mobs another camp here's a stable with a quest go talk to some people. Litterally side tracked the game there's so much to do and explore it just teeters on the brink of being overwhelming.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In my 20 hours of playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, I have been taken aback. What I expected was a game that felt almost if not the exact same way as its predecessor Breath of the Wild. But no, I was wrong. When you first launch the game, it takes a whole different route than previous Zelda titles. It throws you into the game with Zelda exploring underneath the castle. That right there was a sign of what is to come. It showed that Nintendo was not afraid to try new things especially with a sequel. Now for the tutorial. There is only one word that I can describe the great sky islands. Linear. Compared to the great plateau, this starting area does not feel open. The reason why the great plateau was so loved was because of how many things you can already do on it. You can choose which shrine to go to first while on the great sky island, you can literally walk along a path that will lead you too all the shrines. Now for the enemies, same but new. Kind of hard to explain but everything feels more...challenging. Keeps you on your toes. The new boss enemies are amazing too. Time to wrap up. Tears of the Kingdom is an amazing game and I truly believe that this game will easily win Game of the Year. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom took everything about its predecessor and flipped it on its head. Everything from the music, to the game play mechanics have been increased ten fold. If you like your hand being held for the entirety of a game, this game is not for you. Links four main abilities some would call gimmicky, but I would call them a unique set of powers that allow the players to traverse the expanded world of Hyrule however they imagine. Although you no longer have the champions abilities from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, you’re still given all the tools necessary to complete any challenge thrown your way. That’s what makes this game so amazing. You have to go out of your way to reap what you sow. There is no other way around it. This game is very rewarding for your hard work. When it came to building vehicles, it was a bit clunky at first but the more you practice the more you get the hang of it. The frame rate in this game can drop at times, but it’s so amusing it’s forgivable. The story through memories was a bit of a let down I must say. I was really hoping they’d deviate from its previous title in order to keep things fresh. I would say the same about its tutorial, seeing as you start with obtaining Link’s 4 abilities through shrines. Although it’s the same engine, map, mechanics, and characters, it’s approach to the overall open world story telling was a bit too similar to Breath of The Wild. These are the only small complaints I had of the game as I was too distracted by having a jolly good time. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom took the foundation of Breath of The Wild and built upon it. That’s what makes a direct sequel work really well in my opinion. Keeping things similar enough but not too close is a hard line to walk and I think the developers did a fantastic job at towing it. Overall the game is rewarding despite its small similarities from its previous title and will keep you thinking hard the entire way. Expand
