    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can't believe I paid $90+ CAD to hunt for shrines and collect korok seeds again. Great Sky Island was beautiful and colorful and felt fresh until it slowly starts to creep in, as you progress in the game, that barring a few changes this is the EXACT SAME GAME.

    Zelda is absent.

    The story is told through memories.

    The Calamity is now called The Upheaval.

    Weapon durability still exists, but worse all the weapons have decayed so you have to glue goofy **** to them so you can hit something more than six times.

    All the Sheikah slate abilities are swapped for different but equivalent Zonai abilities.

    Complete shrines to get orbs.

    Collect 4 orbs to upgrade health/stamina.

    They're so similar Nintendo could have released them at the same time like Pokémon Games do. Instead of Pokémon Red or Blue you would have Legend of Zelda: Breath or Tears. Do you want crafting mechanics? Pick Tears. Or do you want action mechanics? Pick Breath. The differences outside of that are minimal and superficial.

    I just can't believe I paid $90+ CAD when I could have just kept playing Breath of the Wild. I thought this would be the safest game to pre-order of all time, after how great BOTW was. And yet having been burned a few times in the past by pre-ordering, I somehow got burned again.    … Expand

    Tears of the Kingdom is another massively overrated Nintendo game but, this time, is even worse, because it's basically DLC that recycles the same map with additional barren areas. The voice acting still is awful, embarrassing and minimal because Nintendo didn't want to pay for more than 1% of the lines. Zelda's voice is cringe-worthy, again. This sequel is the same thing but moreTears of the Kingdom is another massively overrated Nintendo game but, this time, is even worse, because it's basically DLC that recycles the same map with additional barren areas. This sequel is the same thing but more expensive. Weapons still break like glass and the UI still is a nightmare that you have to deal with constantly during the action. The story is hollow and pointless and the NPC and side quests are all boring. The game is not really a The Legend of Zelda game but an indie sandbox game like Breath of the Wild but with more sandbox elements like fusion, limited and boring vehicle building and so on. The "dungeons" that are mentioned by the critics that say that this game is a masterpiece are even worse than in the prequel. The music is still minimal and also recycled and the graphics are ever worse with worse performance. Gameplay is boring and frustrating and story is bare-bones. Let's be real, what would the score be if this game wasn't made by Nintendo and the critics were impartial and professional? Tears of the Kingdom is shamelessly overrated just like Breath of the Wild. I am a Zelda fan and these two games aren't what I consider Zelda games and are not masterpieces either. There is no doubt on my mind that Nintendo has influenced the critics and that their fans are defending things that they wouldn't defend if the games were made by another company.… Expand

    I just can’t believe that some people reviewers rate a game on a switch 96 out of 100, with graphics from 20 years ago, that’s not even funny anymore, In 2023 playing at 500px what is that ?     it's a game where you showcase your engineering skills and express your creativity, with childish puzzles. where you roam large world collecting same garbage..

    if you hope for great boss fights, tension, deep fighting/skills mechanics. look somewhere else.

    So bored of Zelda now. This game is a chore with a barren open world and breakable weapons are still a thing with a hack to prevent them from breaking. Story as usual is terribly delivered. Reminds me of Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts…

    Juego, que siendo una continuación directa aumenta, engrandece y lleva hasta límites la propuesta de 2017 con Botw. Con la misma jugabilidad pero más perfecta, escenas de vídeo maravillosamente ejecutadas y una historia mucho más interesante. Todo lo que un buen fan de Zelda puede esperar y más aún... Gráficamente es igual que el mostrado en 2017, cumple más que de sobra en mostrar unJuego, que siendo una continuación directa aumenta, engrandece y lleva hasta límites la propuesta de 2017 con Botw. Con la misma jugabilidad pero más perfecta, escenas de vídeo maravillosamente ejecutadas y una historia mucho más interesante. Todo lo que un buen fan de Zelda puede esperar y más aún... The first issue is immediately obvious: the game is hideous, in fact it looks worse than Wind Waker and yet never goes above 20fps (with frequent spikes in the single digits). Not that the "graphics" are the only issue, the art direction might be the worst I've seen in a Nintento title toAnd to think I was looking forward to this... A huge failure of a game on every conceivable level. Not that the "graphics" are the only issue, the art direction might be the worst I've seen in a Nintento title to date, second only to BotW. Second is the absolutely terrible story that is a slap in the face of any self-respecting LoZ fan. I won't spoil what happens but I was gobsmacked at the contempt the writers are showing for their fans (who will probably happily take it and beg for more, as is the nature of Nintento fans). Third is the gameplay: hilarious to see the same people who (rightly) criticize Ubisoft and EA's boring "open world" make-work trash celebrate BoTW and TotK, games that are even more bland and tedious and in fact go out of their way to be as dull and repetitive as possible. And finally: if you aren't going to let me play as Zelda then don't put her in the title of your game, to do otherwise is deceptive advertising which, by the way, is illegal.… Expand

    O jogo usa a mesma formula do primeiro, o mesmo mapa com partes adicionais, algumas mecânicas idênticas ao primeiro jogo, e algumas novas, porem na minha gameplay tive diversos problemas de desempenho ao usar algumas habilidades, encontrei bugs com construções, no switch pro esta rodando em media 18 a 30 fps instáveis, achei as texturas pioradas em relação ao primeiro talvez pelo mapa doO jogo usa a mesma formula do primeiro, o mesmo mapa com partes adicionais, algumas mecânicas idênticas ao primeiro jogo, e algumas novas, porem na minha gameplay tive diversos problemas de desempenho ao usar algumas habilidades, encontrei bugs com construções, no switch pro esta rodando em media 18 a 30 fps instáveis, achei as texturas pioradas em relação ao primeiro talvez pelo mapa do céu, inimigos pouco modificados em relação ao primeiro jogo. Para mim BOTW ainda continua sendo melhor que esse, e acredito que esse segundo jogo, poderia ser facilmente uma DLC… Expand

    El juego dista mucho de tener una calificación de 10 y no por ser Zelda, automáticamente se lleve una buena calificación. Definitivamente no es el mejor juego de la historia. Si no te agradó BOTW, este definitivamente tampoco te gustará, si esperabas algo distinto a BOTW, te vas a decepcionar pues es más de lo mismo: ir a santuarios en un extenso mapa (con una estamina que no te permiteEl juego dista mucho de tener una calificación de 10 y no por ser Zelda, automáticamente se lleve una buena calificación. Definitivamente no es el mejor juego de la historia. Si no te agradó BOTW, este definitivamente tampoco te gustará, si esperabas algo distinto a BOTW, te vas a decepcionar pues es más de lo mismo: ir a santuarios en un extenso mapa (con una estamina que no te permite explorar de forma adecuada gran parte del juego) para aumentar tus corazones y estamina, ir a las torres para desbloquear las zonas de los mapas, buscar armas a diestra y siniestra porque tienen poca durabilidad y no importa la nueva mecánica de fusionar las armas, de igual forma se rompen sumamente rápido, lo cual te puede resultar tedioso y aburrido. La diferencia es nuevos poderes y algunas mecánicas nuevas añadidas. El mapa la mayoría de las veces se siente vacío y personalmente, no me cautiva el explorarlo, los enemigos son prácticamente casi los mismos.

    Sus gráficos si bien no son indispensables para que sea enriquecedor el juego, sí deja mucho que desear.    … Expand

And no, I’m not pulling that out of a hat: the creators of BOTW have admitted they wanted to make a game like Skyrim in theSo what I’m getting from these “perfect” reviews is that we no longer want Zelda games. They do it better, take less time, and they’re 1/3 of TOTK’s asking price. For me to try Zelda again, it’s gotta do something different. Otherwise Elder Scrolls 6 is getting my money—I can already safely project it’ll be a game that will look better than all of the BOTW successors of the next two decades AND it will be more immersive AND it will cost the same. Plus, I’ll get a head start on how Zelda’s gonna play for the next 15 years ;) From these reviews, I get the sense that fans want Zelda to go stand in the Elder Scroll’s shadow for the rest of time. It’s one thing to like a game, it’s another thing to naively claim something revolutionized the gaming world (aka “this is a masterpiece!”) when it most definitely did not. TOTK’s changes were solely influenced by a) Skyrim and b) Minecraft and c) what it did in BOTW. Those are the masterpieces. The games that other games try to replicate for sales. And not one of those three are “perfect” or “without flaw”.

    And then, for those who want to read it, the *optional* review rant :)

    I don’t want blind enthusiasm to give a false impression of where the series should go ie convince somebody who is unsure whether or not they will like the game to buy it. Hard for me to take the “perfect” game score seriously when reviewers are clearly turning a blind eye to the game’s flaws. I’m glad you like it, but a false GOTY forecast masterpiece of perfection is misleading. The consequence of convincing people on the fence to buy the game gives Nintendo, who needs little coaxing in this regard, reason to just sit on an imperfect formula. Small improvements on a formula are still based on an original game design. There’s a lot of “not fun” parts about this game I don’t want to see again. Many of those existed in BOTW and I was devastated when they returned. If it’s a direction you’re happy with the series taking, and want to actively push for it, then you should be able to acknowledge the good, the bad, and the ugly and still say it’s your favorite game and help people feel comfortable trying it, without making them feel bad if they don’t. Sure, it really can be flawless and perfect, but that’s for your own personal experience, not the experience of the person who’s trying to decide whether or not the game is a good fit for them. I wish I could believe in a perfect game—but there is no perfect game in my book (there’s nothing wrong with rating a 10; my issue is with all of the reviews I have read belligerently insisting that TOTK is flawless and that nobody should dare dislike the game).     As per nintendo's tradition for the past 20 years, it's the same old same old. If you liked BoTW then you'll like this. On the other hand if you think that Zelda series have always been boring and there are much better games out there in the same genre, then you'd most like not really get the hype like me.

    Me estaba gustando bastante, hasta que llegas de nuevo a Hyrule y solo te encuentras bokoblins azules no puedes conseguir armas decentes… y si intentas desbloquear atalayas a lo mejor te lo impide una misión tonta pero que esta hecha para fastidiar… mejorando lo pasado? Mas bien empeorándolo

    La nouvelle mécanique de gameplay est très bien mise en place dès les premières heures de jeu, c'est un réel plaisir de remanier le jeu avec toutes les nouveautés, cependant après quelques heures on ne réfléchit plus autant qu'au début de cet belle aventure.

    Je suis très déçu que ce jeu à était sur noter par certains média le dévoilant comme une innovation importante par rapport au précédent opus, alors que tous cela aurait très bien pu être un DLC du précédent volume, ce qui me désole profondément.

    En outre je recommande vivement ce jeu au personne n'ayant pas fait breath of the Wild avant ou l'ayant fait depuis X années.

    Até os 20 minutos iniciais do jogo parece sim uma DLC. Mesmo depois de pegar todos os poderes o jogo não muda muito. Chega a ser a mesma coisa dos anteriores.     Soy uno de los amantes de la franquicia más grandes que puede existir pero desde el tráiler había cosas que me olían mal.

    Yo no estoy en contra del motor gráfico, en BotW se me hizo precioso, y no digo que esté mal reutilizarlo como Majora's Mask usó el de Ocarina of Time pero pasaron 14 meses entre uno y otro, aquí pasaron 6 AÑOS!!! ESTAMOS LOCOS O QUÉ?. Como carajos entregas lo mismo media década después y peor hecho?

    Eso en el apartado visual pero realmente el inicio del juego es tedioso, la mecánica principal del juego es aburrida, andar pegando todo cada rato suele ser enfadoso, sobre todo el maldito sistema de rotación de objetos es una cochinada, y la historia no es nada que no se haya visto antes en otros lados.

    Puede ser divertido cuando fabricas cosas pero cuando lo ocupas para avanzar en la historia se vuelve muy repetitivo.

    En fin, espero si les guste a ustedes y también a mi.    … Expand

    Ten days before its official release, there was a cracked version available online, which was a huge loss for players like us who spent money on cassette tapes. This developer made a big mistake, which is unforgivable.

    More of the same. The graphics in this new game are the same, the world map is the same just adding some floating islands, the game's puzzles were overly simplistic and lacked any real challenge, leaving me feeling bored and unengaged. Maybe the music.

    This game was a waste of time. I wasted 3 days playing this game and it's so bad. The quality isn't even close to Genshin Impact and there's not much to do in the game. Once you finish the game there's nothing left to do

    expanded Breath of the Wild for 70 euros. A few islands in the sky, a boring underground, the same collectible items and a few caves. That's it!
    Very weak performance for 6 years of development.
    The worst thing I find is that the buildings you build just disappear after 20 meters. That's super weak, every 08/15 Survivial game gets it better and Zelda doesn't even have a multiplayer. So    expanded Breath of the Wild for 70 euros. A few islands in the sky, a boring underground, the same collectible items and a few caves. That's it!

    It has the same Broken and Archaic Control Scheme from BOTW, and a poor Frame Rate. I've experienced climbing walls during fights by mistake due to the stiff movement with target lock, & the shield not blocking correctly while target locked on an enemy above me.

    I've gotten to a point where I don't want to play it due to these problems.

    Not an enjoyable experience 720p 30 fps sometimes less depending on whats happening on screen. Combat is laughable. Graphics are extremely outdated. Not worth $70. Wait for it to go on sale. Nintendo is hilarious trying to charge $70 for this game.

    Il me tardait réellement la sortie de ce titre ayant complètement terminé et adoré Breathe of the wild , mais malheureusement plutôt très déçu de ce nouvel opus qui fait effectivement penser à un gros dlc de BOTW. Le même en levant un cran au dessus de ce qu il faisait avant. 6 ans à attendre pour cela ???? le gameplay est toujours aussi génial mais au bout d un moment amalgame toutes lesIl me tardait réellement la sortie de ce titre ayant complètement terminé et adoré Breathe of the wild , mais malheureusement plutôt très déçu de ce nouvel opus qui fait effectivement penser à un gros dlc de BOTW.     I wasn't sure how Nintendo would find a way to top their work in Breath of the Wild back when it came out, but I feel they have here – with years of more polish applied and refined exploration. [Issue #66 – July/August 2023, p. 71]

    The good thing is that, thanks to the limited possibilities, the creators couldn't go crazy and swing for hundreds of game miles. Instead, they created what could be called Elden Ring in a travel pack. [Issue#328]

    The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
