The biggest question now is how can Nintendo ever top this!?

This is quite literally the best game I have played in my 30+ years of being a gamer. Incredible and more remarkable that all the integrated systems in the game work flawlessly on aging Switch hardware, when other devs cant get simpler games to run without bugs on much more powerful hardware

I have been a gamer for a long time, but I have to admit that I lost interest in playing games for many years. I felt like most games were repetitive, boring, or too easy. I was looking for something that would challenge me, surprise me, and immerse me in a rich and beautiful world. That's when I decided to try the new Zelda game on the Nintendo Switch.

I was looking for something that would challenge me, surprise me, and immerse me in a rich and beautiful world. That's when I decided to try the new Zelda game on the Nintendo Switch.

I was blown away by how amazing this game is. It is not just a game, it is an experience. The graphics are stunning, the music is captivating, the gameplay is smooth and intuitive, and the story is engaging and emotional. The game gives you so much freedom to explore, discover, and create your own adventure. You can climb mountains, glide through the air, ride horses, cook meals, solve puzzles, fight enemies, and more. The game never gets boring or predictable, because there is always something new to see or do.

The game also has a lot of depth and replay value. There are many secrets to uncover, side quests to complete, weapons to collect, shrines to activate, and bosses to defeat. The game adapts to your play style and skill level, so you can always find a challenge that suits you. You can also customize your character's appearance, equipment, and abilities to fit your preferences.

The new Zelda game is the best game I have ever played. It rekindled my love for single player RPGs and made me feel like a kid again. It is a masterpiece that deserves all the praise and awards it has received. If you have a Nintendo Switch, you owe it to yourself to play this game. Trust me, you will not regret it.

The best open world game ever. At first it feels overwhelming, the second it feels too familiar... before you realize the potential. Also, the caves, depths and sky islands guarantee almost 3 times the landmass of BotW. 2/3 of it is completely new terrain.

After very much enjoying – but not exactly falling in love with – Breath of the Wild, I was admittedly pretty sceptical in the run up to Tears of the Kingdom. Sure, that third trailer was awesome, but to me at least, it still appeared too similar to its 2017 predecessor and I didn’t think it would grab me like more traditional Zelda’s titles such as The Wind Waker and A Link Between Worlds did in the past. However, after more than 200 hours of exhilarating gameplay, I can comfortably state that this game is the easiest 10/10 I’ll ever give.

From the opening few hours in Sky Isles tutorial area, I was utterly hooked and didn’t once stop to dip into a single other game across Switch, PS5 and Series X until I’d finished what is, for me, an unadulterated masterpiece and the very peak of Nintendo’s creative vision. On and off, it took me six whole years to put 125 hours into Breath of the Wild, but it took me less than six weeks to reach the same milestone in Tears of the Kingdom. The Switch is definitely showing its age these days, but somehow, TOTK manages to look absolutely stunning on both a 65” 4K living room TV and the systems own OLED screen in handheld mode. Yes, the frame rate does occasionally dip below 30 frames-per-second, but after a couple hours I stopped even noticing it. Seriously, if you’re still on the fence, do yourself a favour and jump off right now and pick this game up. I highly doubt you’ll regret it for even the merest moment.

Tears of the Kingdom is without question my game of the year so far and, as far as I’m concerned, the greatest video game ever made. Yes, it really is ‘that’ good. Seriously, just give the game a chance, and you’ll probably feel just as strongly about it as I do.

Nintendo managed to do the impossible, and top Breath of the Wild. The new gameplay mechanics makes the experience fresh and new. They doubled the size of the world, made more than the 120 shrines the previous game had, and made tons of additions and alterations to the original Hyrule map. The new powers are NOT gimmicks ( people who say so are clearly just trolling or don't really understand much about gaming, or likely both) in fact the mechanics introduced by this game have received praise from the dev community at large. This game was truly a labor of love, there are so many changes and improvements that listing them all would be impossible.

Is it the prettiest game you'll ever see? No, but it's very pretty in its own right and definitely a sensational achievement for a console like the switch.

If you are the special kind of player who "cannot play anything below 60 fps" then move along,
if you still like to PLAY videogames (like when you were a kid) and haven't lost your childlike wonder and sense of amazement you will love this game. Imagine seamlessly dive from a sky island all the way to the underground, exploring caves (and caves within caves), saving villages, finding hidden treasure etc and the best thing is that you can do all of this and so much more at your own pace, guided by your own creativity, interests and sense of exploration.

How does having upgraded versions of shrines that actually take the fuse abilities in unique and creative ways have anything to do with whether or not a game is good or not?

Shouldn't it be about whether or not you are enjoying yourself playing the game and how

Shouldn't it be about whether or not you are enjoying yourself playing the game and how much you are enjoying it? The review bombing "reasons" have little to do with how much you give a score something. I base my score on how much I enjoyed the game. Of course if you didn't like breath of the wild, you really shouldn't have bought Tears of the Kingdom. And if you did like breath of the wild, how is improving on what's already there and adding new enemies, features, music etc a bad thing? Whether or not it's worth 70 dollars is a different topic entirely, and shouldn't be a factor in a games score. Money has nothing to do with whether or not you gave a game a 0 or a 10. Like literally nothing.

Anyways rant over, Loving this game 9.5/10 for me.

From a mechanics perspective (and speaking as a seasoned game developer myself) TOTK does what no other company on the scale of Nintendo has been willing to do: dream big, take massive risks, and execute BRILLIANTLY. The scope of what is possible with the mechanics provided to the player via object manipulation and unique traits of those objects is nothing short of awe-striking. So awe-striking that it overshadows the veritable cornucopia of systemics and mechanics already introduced in the previous title, Breath of The Wild. We will be seeing players finding new things to do and love in this game for many, many years to come. Beyond the meat of what makes this game unique, Tears of the Kingdom builds on what made breath of the wild great, leaving nothing behind. There are a wealth of "verbs" (things you can do) that is rivaled only by the games that borrowed directly from the first title. While other games follow the overwhelming status quo of combat being a primary (or only) way the player can really interact with the world, Tears of the Kingdom, like it's predecessor allows and encourages the player to experiment against the question "what if I could _____?" And the answer is virtually always YES. Game developers better be paying attention to this one. Tears of the Kingdom is an absolute masterclass in gameplay and systemic design. Expand

Don’t expect a completely new Zelda game, instead expect botw style gameplay with new powers, map and much more emphasis on story.

Yes, the map is recognisable from its predecessor. Yes, the graphics aren't as realistic as whatever grinding live service BS is put out on other platforms. Mal sabíamos que The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild era uma Tech Demo para The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

As novas mecânicas, a história do jogo e a mesma sensação de liberdade que senti em Breath of the Wild.

Assim como Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom é gigantesco, grandioso, excessivo e imenso. Pega todas as qualidades de Breath of the Wild e soma, multiplica e potencializa o mundo de Hyrule.

Da mesma forma que, Breath of the Wild mudou a fórmula de mundo aberto, Tears of the Kingdom mudou a fórmula de Breath of the Wild.

Despite all the praise BotW received, I struggled to finish the game. I only made the effort to finish BotW because at some point TotK convinced me it might be a fun game. I finished BotW months before the release of TotK, despite having purchased it at launch.

The difference between the two is night and day. TotK is NOT glorified DLC. Those who claim it is DLC are clearly lying about having played the game. It is a highly fun and addictive game.

    Pros:

The game is seamless. You can find the highest sky mountain and glide into the deepest chasm without any loading screens. That is impressive when you consider it's all on the Switch.

The game is visually stunning. While it's doesn't have the graphics of something like FF16, it's watercolor art style feels just right. I play this game on an 80" 4k tv and I don't mind the look of it.

The way the story is delivered has some issues, but the story is touching. Zelda is not just damsel in distress like in previous games. She plays a major role in helping you defeat the Demon King.

Ultrahand is the bread and butter of this game. It has limits but there's a lot you can do with it. It all depends on how creative you are. Some of the fusions look wacky, but they are fun to play with.

    Cons:

It does have some frame rate drops. This game really does push the Switch to its limits, but for what this game does, it is truly impressive how much it gets away with. The drops aren't too frequent to ruin the experience. The only moment I remember seeing a frame rate dropping was when I jumped off a sky platform chasing a fire-dragon that was going into a chasm. I glid alongside the dragon until it reached the depths then landed on it. It was just a moment the game stuttered.

There are some narrative issues. I don't think this is a spoiler, but the narrative revolves around you finding Zelda. If you've grown up with the series, you know that's a staple of the franchise.

I encountered Impa early on, and she sent me on a quest to find all the tears. I have an obsession with unlocking the world map in these open world game before starting the story. It usually results in me reaching max level before I even start the campaign.

Finding all the tears reveals what happened to Zelda, yet Link still runs around pretending he doesn't know. It's funny but it's still a glazing narrative issue.

This is minor. In my exploration I also stumbled across the Master Sword without receiving the quest from the Deku tree since I couldn't find the entrance to the Lost Woods. The entrance alluded me until my brother said, "Why do you climb everything." Then my it clicked in my BotW brain.

I just feel certain reveals could have been held off until certain criteria were met. I know it would complicate the game for some players, but it could have held the narrative a little better.

All the champions have the same cutscenes. These moments could have been used to expand the narrative.

This game is almost flawless, but since I can't give it a 9.5, it takes the whole 10.

In the opening segments of this game, after dropping from the Great Sky Islands back to the familiarity of the vast green fields of Hyrule, I was hit with an unsettling feeling that ‘Tears of the Kingdom’ may not be unique enough to stand apart as its own unique experience from ‘Breath of the Wild’, and that much of this game may feel like retreading trodden ground.

Fortunately however, as the game progressed it unveiled more and more of its secrets and sheer abundance of content, winning me over more and more with how much it develops and builds upon every single aspect of ‘Breath of the Wild’ to a staggering degree. My issues regarding its similarities to ‘Breath of the Wild’ quickly faded away, and in it’s wake I was left with a magical wonder and so many discoveries that I was wondering how the game could possibly just keep going.

If you enjoyed BOTW even in the slightest, you must play this game. Just Hyrule itself has been revamped a ton, and now there's also Sky islands and the dark depths below Hyrule. So much content and an infinite amount of possibilities with the godhand / recall abilties / vehicle building. A master class open world

Unbelievable adventure. You can't give a bad note on this one if you're honest. One of the best games I ever played. This is a masterpiece.

After the first 10 hours I didn't think I could like this game more than BOTW... after 60 hours I occasionally think to myself "is this is the best game ever made?" Of course it's not, but the variety, and possibilities, and story, and the ingenuity, and how new and alive it feels despite being the same map as BOTW (only twice as big) all give it nothing less than a 10. This game is clearly better than both. Expand

I wasn't sure how Nintendo would find a way to top their work in Breath of the Wild back when it came out, but I feel they have here – with years of more polish applied and refined exploration. [Issue #66 – July/August 2023, p. 71]

The good thing is that, thanks to the limited possibilities, the creators couldn't go crazy and swing for hundreds of game miles. Instead, they created what could be called Elden Ring in a travel pack. [Issue#328]

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
