The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild is my favorite game of all time, and that's coming from a non-zelda fan! The game is so much fun to explore, and I have so many memories with this beautiful game. 10/10, I can't wait for tears of the kingdom!

Decent enough game but I don't get the hype.
Everyone tells me about how ground breaking it is but there wasn't anything there I hadn't seen before. I guess a slick coat of Nintendo is all it takes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The combat is superb. While I had a little issue with the durability system, I did like how it forced you to change styles and play differently. There are so many fun ways to approach combat that other games only have a fraction of. The four dungeons are kind of boring and generic and the final boss is painfully easy. The voice actors to come across as robotic which does suck me out of the game some. Those are the only problems I have with the game, everything else is near perfect.

For example, a player can go up against a strong enemy and get good rewards for it, or they could fight low level enemies and get other, less valuable rewards. While this is a great game, it is not without its flaws. The game has a lack of guidance, which can be discouraging for some players. It also has a weapon breaking system which, while it encourages creativity, it also can take away strong weapons that the player has grown attached to. The game also lacks a deep story, it gives a background to the game and a vague description of the events that unfolded before the game and is built upon very little, if not at all. Certain areas can also have poor performance, but this is limited to only a couple areas.

    Pros:

I personally sorely lacked the spirit of exploration in the game, which I feel, for example, in the TES series or in The Witcher 3, when I study the map and constantly stumble upon something interesting: some quest character, notes, an interesting unique situation, etc. d. You'll find none of that here, and they even managed to duck up the story. There's no journey or grand reveal, it's a survival sandbox with a simple linear goal in a way more akin to very early arcadey iterations before. There's no charming exposition to the start of this one, you simply wake up and are introduced to a post apocalyptic world and the main boss. A main boss that has been stripped of any personality and can be beaten without even needing the master sword. There's charming wandering NPCs but no memorable named NPCs, just randoms with samey models and mannerisms.

The open world gets old fast when you realize each zone is filled with the same activity.

    >Find a rock, put it in the circle, get a seed.
    >Find a shrine, put a ball in a hole, get a spirit orb.
    >Find ingredients, put them in a pot, get food.

All the charm of every zone is robbed from these repetitive tasks that make up every reward and every reveal. Find a secret area? You get a ball in a hole puzzle shrine. Climb a difficult mountain? You get to pick up a rock and get a seed. Why do we need to do this? Well the answer is that 4 orbs translate to either one heart or stamina bar, which is basically gating survivability. At least it would be if you couldn't simply get food that gives you 20+ boosted hearts which TRIVIALIZES these rewards. I'd rather spend my time looking for big radishes to make 20+ boosted heart meals that do another **** golf puzzle ever again. It gets old after the twentieth time ffs.

Now the final nail in the coffin for me was the horrible bosses and dungeons. The water dungeon and water boss was a **** joke. It was literally one room with three puzzles, and a slow predictable boss that I basically stunlocked by shooting it's eye. It was pathetic. The worst Zelda dungeon I've ever played. The scene of this giant power rangers elephant statue somehow swimming under the dam and through the river half is size was also pathetic. Such a downgrade it's a disgrace. And it didn't get much better from there. The other four bosses and dungeons aren't much better. There's also a whole system involving taking pictures and cataloging everything from plants to creatures, but who the **** wants to do that? The gameplay was fine but I can't get over the pitfalls. All in all, very disappointing.

It's not bad, but it's boring. Very boring. And even more annoying then boring. It is not the Zelda game I like. To much running around for nothing. I don't think I will be completing it. Previous Zelda's where much more driven and to the point.

This game does have flaws but they are so minor in the grand scheme of the game it’s so easy to forget they’re even there. I recommend this game to anyone who hasn’t tried it already. Worth buying a Switch just for this game. I cannot wait for a sequel.

Overall the game is fun as hell and is well worth the money and is deserving of all the praise it gets

Bullet points why it's just a decent game and a terrible Zelda:

Zelda used to be quality, fun games with an interesting world and not a big open space of mostly Empty plain or mountain which could easily be left out and not subtract anything of the game, in fact, it would add to leave out 70% of this empty world since it would mean less empty space to traverse to find something

The world had fun lore and story that made you follow it which BotW has almost nothing of and the only reason I excuse the empty, lifeless world is the lore of it being a 100 years after basically Armageddon.

It was fun to engage with enemies and try different items to play around with them but weapons breaking all the time isn't fun at all. It only discourages to fight because you will only loose the weapons you have since most chest are locked behind "kill all enemies in the vicinity" flags and at best you get something worse that again, breaks after a few uses. If you at least had weak base equipment with the only special trait to be unbreakable and infinite use to fall back once you run out it would make this acceptable. Heck, not even the legendary Master Sword can't be used all the time since it needs recharging every so often.

Zelda used to encourage exploration to find cool stuff but that doesn't apply anymore because at best you find more stuff that just breaks so you would not have any feeling of finding something precious, it's just throw away trash you could substitute whenever.

Dungeons were fun and "awe-inspiring" and now all we get are puzzle rooms and mini-dungeons with annoying motion controls at time. You can't even call the divine beast a dungeon since they are so small and have little unique look to it.

The only issue I have is that the shrines and koroks are very repetitive. I think they could be more creative, and instead of many little puzzles, I believe bigger, more dungeon-like areas. Other than that, the game is amazing. The combat is some of the best I have ever seen in a video game before, and it feels very rewarding to fight bigger and better monsters and receive a multitude of different weapons to do it with. The bosses and divine beasts are very creative, and the vast amount of armor and outfits are amazing, not only because of the armor aspect, but they look beautiful and very detailed. Finally, the story, which isn't a huge part of the game, and is sort of light, if you look into it, it is very beautifully put together and fits perfectly with Link losing his memories. I just hope that Nintendo can fit the same experience they gave us with this game into Tears of the Kingdom. Keep it up, Nintendo. Expand

The writing is amazing, with great characters and a narrative that you can look deeper into if you want, reading everyone's journals and unlocking Link's memories, or almost entirely skip over, and just have a blast in the amazing world Nintendo has crafted with this game. The art style is gorgeous. (just look at that grass!) The combat is deep and satisfying. Boss fights are engaging. An astounding amount of player creativity is available. Game structure is incredible. I'm not even a huge fan of open-world games, but this game absolutely took me. And it lives up to its name: it truly feels like a breath of the wild.

no joke the whole game is perfect in every aspect.

But one thing I feel like I need to write somewhere is that I find the story insanely underrated, sure it's mostly in the background but when you actually pay attention to everything in order it can be some pretty heavy and powerful stuff especially when it comes to this iteration of Zelda.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild flips what everybody knows about video games on its head, with its immersive world and high-quality characters combined with the game’s narrative creating one of the greatest video games ever.

    FULL REVIEW:
The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s biggest and most successful franchises, second behind Mario. Shigeru Miyamoto may have been behind the beginning stages of both franchises. However, he helped to make sure they were different from each other before handing the Zelda franchise over to Eiji Aonuma. Where 1986’s Super Mario Bros. was a side-scrolling platformer, 1986’s The Legend of Zelda included an action-adventure overworld. Zelda II may have included side-scrolling while battling enemies, but the overworld became a mainstay, even to this day. The Zelda franchise has tried many other gameplay and narrative styles across multiple consoles and handhelds. However, everyone, including Nintendo, knew there was something special about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild upon its announcement in 2013.

Upon entering the game’s world, players discover the grim reality Link lives in: they’ve lost. Link, Zelda, and the four Divine Beast Champions fell to the all-powerful Calamity Ganon, causing Link to fall asleep for one hundred years. As Link discovers throughout the game’s captured memories, players learn more about the Champions and the dynamic between the heroic group before Hyrule fell to Ganon. Zelda fails to unlock her sealing abilities in time despite her father, King Rhoam’s, best efforts to help her. The Champions fail to overpower Calamity Ganon with their Divine Beasts. Hyrule fails to understand the uncontrollable power of Sheikah technology. Everyone fails and loses before the game’s narrative begins, making Link’s destined quest to defeat Ganon all the more urgent and emotional.

Luckily for Link and players, Hyrule retains many tribes and villages after the fall of King Rhoam and Hyrule Castle. Hyrule also offers dozens of shrines awakened by Sheikah technology for Link and players to explore. The amount of quests, puzzles, and locations to discover makes players feel small amidst a living world. Curiosity often overpowers people, making exploration in an open world like Breath of the Wild a true adventure, regardless of the hundreds of quests offered to players. Players can even move straight onto fighting Ganon, bolstering the game’s freedom of choice. Nothing is required of the player to complete the game other than beating Calamity Ganon, making Breath of the Wild the game it is today.

As the world ventures away from the game, many of today’s games, like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Genshin Impact, and Immortals Fenyx Rising, try their hardest to replicate its success. However, the combination of Breath of the Wild’s exploratory adventure and the world Link and players reside in creates a once-in-a-generation experience no other game achieves. It is the quintessential open-world title–a near-perfect video game worth the four-year wait between 2013 and 2017. From 1986 to now, the Zelda franchise has been the yin to the Mario franchise’s yang. The ladder offers a more casual and status-quo adventure, and the former offers genre-bending experiences for those willing to take risks.

Zira her silah (birisi hariç) önünde sonunda kırılıyor.

Giving this thing anything less than a stellar rating is quite controversial but nevertheless, I need to be honest. 90% of the game is phenomenal. The other 10% is detrimental enough for my own enjoyment that it brings the entire game down in my book.

First, the great. The open world aspect lends itself well to the franchise and was a fresh take on the formula. Starting off with all your necessary tools and learning how to use them promotes creativity for problem solving unlike anything I've ever seen in a game. The exploration has scale and depth I truly wasn't expecting. The survival elements to the game were very interesting and was mostly executed well.

Next, the negatives. This boils down to really just one: weapon durability. The constant and pervasive anxiety I had while fending off enemies, wondering if I'll be able to defend myself in any moment decentivized me from exploring further or engaging in combat. This was a huge detriment to me as a part of the combat is getting creative and problem solving. When I was constantly going into battles and burning through literally all of my weapons and still having enemies left, I ended up needing to run away with no weapons left and nothing to show for my efforts. If the game had provided some ways to repair some weapons or increase durability just by a bit, things could've been different.

Exploring new locations, gaining new skills and equipment, meeting new people all lost its vigor when I simply just didn't want to explore anymore due to the stress this aspect brought. Even a game as brutal as Dark Souls manages to keep weapon durability reasonable and repair options accessible. BOTW did neither and created a rather stressful and frustrating experience. It's a shame too because besides that issue, the game is phenomenal in every possible way. I just wished they would've made that aspect more player-friendly so I could enjoy the experience more.

While the game has deserved the praise it has received, I haven't returned to the game after about 20 hours. I just stopped and didn't want to return to the world that did not provide the tools I needed from the beginning.

Enough has been said about the game! I just came to say +1 to how you need to play it, even if it is not your kind of game. If you have an open mindset you will surely enjoy it! For me it has the best open world experience of any game, it was the first time I would just roam around Hyrule and just enjoyed exploring every part of the map.

Open world way too huge and repetitive for hours... meh! Shrine after shrine... meh! Dungeons/titans were really boring. Weapon "system" good Idea but after many broken swords and shields... meh! Story(telling) was really good.

A lot of fun and very adventurous sure it is a must play, one of the best exploration games, BUT as a zelda title it is not my favourite and not as good as majoras mask ocarina of time and even twillight princess (yeah i kinda like this title).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In 2023, this game is still amazing. It may not be the best Zelda game, but this is just awesome. If you like puzzles, action, tactic and a big adventure, this is still a very good game.
The beginning of the game (the great plateau) is very good. It is the tutorial section of the game, but it feels like a mini game. Very good.
The ending is a bit dissapointing, if you look at the other Zelda games.
The adventure itself is also very good. You walk towards a specific goal, but you always find new things to do and enjoy. You can kill enemies with a lot of ways.
The only things that are dissapointing are: the ending, the weaponbreaking system, the small variety of monsters and the same feeling in the dungeons and the shrines.
For the rest is it a very good game.

I think Breath of the wild is a great game and a ok Zelda.

Sadly Nintendo is going to follow the open world trend.

Breath of the wild has bad dungeons, bad object(i mean the Leapfrog gadget) and doesn't feel like a zelda.

It has an amazing exploration, amazing fighting and amazing crafting system.

Breath of the Wild is the best game ever made, and I've been playing them for over 30 years.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall I was left very disappointed with the ending and ended up just watching the true ending on YouTube.as I wasn’t grinding anymore. I was getting burnt out just to get the game done asap 70 hrs in befor I lost complete interest and gave up on it. Don’t get me wrong I really did enjoy most of it but, It can get very repetitive once you understand how the game play loop works and controls. it was a great game but not a perfect one. Expand

This game is overrated as hell, almost as bad as God of War: Ragnarok. People treat it like it was delivered by god himself and that not worshiping it would be a sin. It is probably the worst game on the switch, maybe on any Nintendo console ever. Expand

Where it takes mechanics from others in the industry, it improves upon them; where it introduces new ones, you slap your forehead in amazement that it hasn’t been done before. Breath of the Wild is development done right, and damn near the best game you’ll play all year.

Up there with the finest Zelda games, Breath of the Wild is bold, liberating, and utterly astonishing. [Apr 2017, p.60]
