Possibly the best game in the Ace Attorney franchise and a great adventure game. While the first game in the package ‘The Great Ace Attorney Adventures’ at times stumbles with overly long cases or a couple of areas where the game doesn’t quite blend the mix of investigation phase with Trial phase as well as it ought to, it still is a good game on its own. When paired with the payoff that comes in the form of ‘The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve’ which is also part of this package it becomes all the more compelling. Some of the character writing, twists and cases in this second game are some of the best in the entire series. On the gameplay front little changes between the first part ‘Adventures’ and the second part ‘Resolve’, but what does change is the execution and level of restraint shown with the new features such as the Jury and Deductions. Where these at times fall flat in the first entry they feel like an inspired choice in the second game and build into the overall plot and character of the game. If you like Ace Attorney there is absolutely no reason not to play this. If you are looking for a couple of at times zany, mysterious but always heartfelt stories then this is a worthwhile package of games to checkout even if it did take many years to get a western release, its finally here and its fantastic. Insanely good game. A bit suspicious of the exceedingly large amount of 0 reviews with no review attached to them. Feels like someone with a knowledge of bots night be upset at this game. I'd give it a shot if you're interested, you'd probably enjoy it.

Wow! To think there was THE hidden jewel of the attorney games. This game is perfection: 2 complete games with all its cases linked. This game feels nothing like an Ace Attorney game but at the same time it feels just like any other Ace Attorney game. Game of the Year for me so far.

Finally finished this and loved every second of it. They subvert a lot of past Ace Attorney tropes and give the series a much needed breath of fresh air, which imo had hit a wall post Apollo Justice. I'd say both games combined are as good, if not better than the original trilogy. I would love to see these characters return for more adventures.

The best game in the Ace Attorney series, Adventures and Resolve together are one of the best stories I've ever experienced. The soundtrack is perfect, there are new mechanics added to trials and investigation segments which enhance the pacing a lot. I couldn't recommend it more.

Objection! You don’t want to miss this game! Finally after waiting 6 years we have the english dubbed version. It’s honestly the best game to get on the switch this year. It’s witty, charming and full of mysteries waiting to be solved. The price is perfect for the two games you get. A 10/10 visual novel & adventure game.

    In just one word: masterpiece.

For those that do not know, the Great Ace Attorney games were released in Japan back in 2015 and 2017, respectively. The western release had been held back for multiple reasons:
    1. These are spin-off titles. Around ~2015, the mainline Ace Attorney titles had not been selling very well outside Japan. We've only gotten digital releases of the 3DS games. In Japan, however, they not only get physical versions, but also limited editions.
    2. Localizing this title would have been extremely confusing for the average western Ace Attorney fan. Everyone who had heard of The Great Ace Attorney probably knows the main character Ryūnosuke Naruhodo is Phoenix Wright's ancestor... "Wait, what?! But Phoenix Wright lives in the United States." That's because Ace Attorney's localization changed the game's location from Japan to the U.S.A.! Phoenix Wright's name in Japan is Ryuichi Naruhodou...
It goes even further. The ancestor's name itself, Ryūnosuke, is a portmanteau of Apollo's and Phoenix's names in Japanese. "Ryuichi" + "Housuke" = "Ryūnosuke". What would they have to name Ryunosuke if they were to localize the game, then? Phopollo Wright? It would have been cringey yet hilarious.
    3. Copyright issues, mainly due to the Sherlock Holmes character, and also some of the toned language and remarks the game uses, depicting English people as fiercely racist towards Japanese people —with words like "barbaric" and "monkeys"—, which is actually accurate for the time period this game is ambiented on (~the year 1902).

Fast forward to around 2019-2020. The Ace Attorney Trilogy HD remaster is a major success everywhere in the world. PC, Switch, PS4 and Xbox versions have been selling like hotcakes.
There is strong demand for The Great Ace Attorney, too. English-subbed gameplay of the game gets thousand of views. People love the characters and the story. A dedicated team of people decide to make a fan translation. And the fan translation gets insanely popular.
At some point Capcom decides to port the game to HD platforms other than mobile, and they noticed the western demand.
"Yeah the people want this game. It's time to give them what they want."
They got through the caveats that would imply, leaving the character names unlocalised but also changing Sherlock's name to Herlock in order to avoid copyright issues.

Now, for an actual review of the two games:
Both get a 10/10 from me.

    - Around 20-25 hours to beat each game.
    - An absolutely impeccable presentation. Every chapter at the start has a cutscene with voice acting. There's also another short cutscene that looks like an excerpt directly taken from Sir Conan Doyle's stories.
    - The music itself is a huge orchestra and it's beautiful to listen to.
    - The character designs are beautiful, yet simple. Ryunosuke and legal assistant Susato just seem like your average 20th century Japanese people, with Ryunosuke in his school uniform and Susato in a kimono. Some English characters are colorful and excentric like Herlock and Iris, others like Gina are simple and plaid, very plaid. Needless to say, the characters are entertaining and full of emotion.
    - It's incredibly accurate —historically speaking— for the early 20th century Britain. Small story details like the "window tax" and pawn shops make you feel like you're really in 1900 Britain.
    - The jury system from the crossover with Professor Layton makes a comeback and honestly, it's great! Every juror has something different to say, it proves that people who are watching the trial have different POVs and some of them may turn everything you know about the trial around.
    - Investigation and court trials with you shouting "Objection!" are back. Of course, it's Ace Attorney! Investigation isn't tedious, there isn't a lot of backtracking and there are a lot of new things to know and historical details to learn.
    - If you thought the first game was amazing, get ready for the second one because the cases get ten times better.
    - In previous games, while prosecutors are annoying at first and they will want to destroy your defense with everything they've got, you end up absolutely loving them. Edgeworth, Franziska, Godot, Klavier. Even Blackquill and Nahyuta. Ace Attorney fans love them and hold them close in their hearts. But what about this game's prosecutor, Barok van Zieks, "The Reaper of the Old Bailey"? Will you ever learn to love him, with his racist and strong attitude, and his scary background story where every defendant he's prosecuted... dies!? And where did he come from, anyway? He's absolutely suspicious. This might be a change in the series for sure, and the average fan's heart. I won't go spoiling anything about him, though (yes, don't worry, what I said are just general details you'll know in the first few hours of the first game, like the "surface" of the character). Play the game!

If you've never played any of the Ace Attorney titles before, this is an excellent place to start – but it's also a good example of how far we've come since the franchise first was released in the West over 15 years ago! With all the smooth 3D visuals, the excellent music, the extensively researched setting and the great cast of characters, it's leaps and bounds ahead of the original Ace Attorney trilogy, and the story shines just as brightly as the original. If not brighter! [Issue #54 – September 2021, p. 69]

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles isn’t just a reminder of why the series as a whole is beloved, but also a reaffirmation that video games can be capable of so much more as an entertainment medium. Straddling the line somewhere between book and interactive movie, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles takes players through case after case packed with wonderful characters, stories, and clever brain teasers. Although adventure games/visual novels aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, if you’ve been looking to try one for the first time or give them another shot, this is the game. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a blast.
