The writing treats the player like a child, and I just have no patience for that.

Frequently you're presented with a new, potentially interesting idea only to have the next full minute of dialog be a blatant rehashing of the one idea, breaking down what it means in plain English multiple times. That happens any time anything new is presented to the player, at least up until I stopped

This may actually be a great game if you're learning English or have occasional issues with reading comprehension, but I can't recommend it for anyone else.

The great ace attorney series is a mystery game that plays itself and is a major letdown for long time fans as it's head scratching mysteries are no where to be found in this entry.

I will say as a game, this port of a 3Ds title is competently made, as a collection I'd say it's what we'd come to expect from the people at Capcom. There's no technical issues to be found the music, character design, and localized dialogue is all up to the quality we've come to expect from this series. However that's where my praise for the game ends. As the game, in its core gameplay, is severely lacking. There's no challange to ever solve the mystery of "what happened" as the great ace Attorney seems to go out of its way to make things as easy as possible for the player. Bringing up a mystery for the case, only to immidaltey hand you a peice of evidence that anyone over the age of 10 would be able to figure out the significance of what it means. At times you will even be handed a peice of evidence and then immidaltey told what to do with it by your assistant, that being invesitagte it or present it. I think the best way to outline the core problem the game has with approaching it's mysteries can be found in its new mechanic, which is watching for characters reactions to certian statements during cross examinations. On its surface it sounds interesting, Ace Attorney Apollo Justice on the Nintendo DS had a simmilar such mechanic that many people enjoyed. However the two aren't comparable, as any and all forms of subtly have been removed. When this "mechanic" is activated, the game will play an audio que of them shouting, put a "!" Over the characters icon, and have them go into an extremely obvious nervous animation that will have them flailing their arms around biting on an object. Turning this "mechanic" into a quick time event with no time limit making it nearly impossible to miss.

Final Verdict: Guilty of being a boring visual novel disguised as a mystery game.

Pick something. Either I am a lawyer or I am a detective. Years of this and it's only gotten worse half the cases turn into having nothing to do with the client. This should have one game, but the stretched out one alright story into to two terrible ones. The budget was clearly cut for the second game as there was no animated scenes and they reused about 50% of the character models.

The writing is poor, characters are boring and annoying, and the pacing is horrendous.
Even the music is subpar. Definitely the worst in the AA series.

Absolutely one of the worst AA games ever written.

The characters are mostly bland one-dimensional, boring archetypes. Herrlock Sholmes is nothing more than an obtrusive headache. He gets in your way, wastes your **** time with his unfun deduction segments, and LIES TO YOU constantly. Susato has absolutely no personality or defining characteristic. The one character I actually like

The one character I actually like is Barok, but he also jumps through stupid hoops to make the plot work in ways that do not make sense.

I understand the bigger mystery that they were building up to in Resolve, but to be quite honest, it's so badly written, cliched, and contrived that halfway through I just didn't care anymore. The game's only way to contrive a sense of tension or drama is to waste your time running over the same clues ten times, while characters who could literally answer your questions just tell you "No" and then **** off.

I've played every AA game in the series. This series was BUILT on great writing, great pacing, and clever scenarios. This game has none of them. What a damn shame.

There's barely any challenge in this game. The assistant is way too helpful. The tempo is also the worst. There are too many meaningless dialogs and self-talks, and there are too few logical highlights. Compared to the Phoenix Wright Trilogy, the music also raises less tension. I don't recommend any Ace Attorney fans to buy this game.

Love the story lines and the vibe they’re going for, but it’s a bit slow. While playing you need to solve the mystery and then read how they’re retelling what you’ve just solved.

If you’re someone who loves solving mysteries and participating in them, really searching for clues then this game isn’t for you either. They actually make the “clues” super obvious, it gets obnoxious. I was

I was very excited for this game but it ended up with me just auto playing the dialogue.. wouldn’t buy again.

The biggest change compared to other parts of the law series is the setting in England and the presence of Herlock Sholmes. Otherwise, it's still the same, and really great, adventure full of dialogues, specific humor and characters.

If you've never played any of the Ace Attorney titles before, this is an excellent place to start – but it's also a good example of how far we've come since the franchise first was released in the West over 15 years ago! With all the smooth 3D visuals, the excellent music, the extensively researched setting and the great cast of characters, it's leaps and bounds ahead of the original Ace Attorney trilogy, and the story shines just as brightly as the original. If not brighter! [Issue #54 – September 2021, p. 69]

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles isn’t just a reminder of why the series as a whole is beloved, but also a reaffirmation that video games can be capable of so much more as an entertainment medium. Straddling the line somewhere between book and interactive movie, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles takes players through case after case packed with wonderful characters, stories, and clever brain teasers. Although adventure games/visual novels aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, if you’ve been looking to try one for the first time or give them another shot, this is the game. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a blast.
