In my opinion this is the best example of a roguelike, every should tried, it’s true it’s a little hard but with enough practice anyone can enjoy it

Ooh this game was a lot of fun. Very repalyable, if not a bit simple. Very fun to get new combinations of items and see how overpowered you can get. It can be quite challenging and can also be frustrating, so buy if rogue-like bullet hells are for you. If not there are other games at this price point to try.

If I knew I was going to be stranded on a desert island for 5 years with a Nintendo Switch and was allowed to choose 1 video game to have on it, I'd choose Binding of Isaac.

Interesting and influential title that starts out fun enough but becomes a slog after a while. The game grows in difficulty the more you beat it. This is not like Enter the Gungeon where every run is winnable (a much more enjoyable user experience for me). You will die a lot, and if you're one of the "git-gud" elitist gamers this will probably appeal to you. As for me, I just wish I could return to an earlier form of the game with the unlocks I've earned so I can start enjoying the experience again. Expand

RNG is supposed to make the game fun, not feeling unfair. This could have clearly been balanced more than this because at some point it's just lottery. And you don't want to spend 40 minutes on a run to actually die in a inevitable way because of the RNG. This just discourage people.

So since a game is supposed to be fun, I'll give 7 because it could be much more fun. A lot of time I'm like ''hey I wanna play TBOI'' et then 10 minutes later I might be just disgusted by the unfairness of the game.

In brief, McMillan can make brillant games but he clearly lacks the dimension of the learning curve.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Probably like anyone who has ever been sucked into the golden toy chest that is The Binding of Isaac will probably like me have a major love/hate relationship with the game. I love the game through and through, I enjoy the variety and unpredictable nature of every run, I love the item and tear synergies that seemingly have endless combinations and effects, I love the challenge and difficulty that varies in each run, I love remembering what each item of 600+ does and how they react with one another and trying to figure whether an item is a game changer or a game ender. I just love it. What I hate about it though is that I just can’t stop coming back to it!

So if you don’t know what The Binding of Isaac is. Here’s the basic version - It is a procedurally-generated roguelite game that features Isaac on the run from his psychotic mother who wants to kill him because ‘God’ demands a sacrifice. So he escapes into the basement and he has to fight for survival. Poor little Isaac.

To elaborate even more what The Binding of Isaac is, I will explain it as I did to my wife, which quite frankly left her in shock. While chilling in bed in the late evening before bed, Wife is sat browsing through her various social medias on her phone and she turns to me and says, ‘you love that game don’t you, can you tell me more about it?’ Being quite ecstatic that my wife is finally taking some interest in one of my games, I promptly reply and talk her through what I’m doing on the screen. ‘Well basically you play as Isaac, he’s a naked five year old boy with a shaved head who is always crying and his mum wants to kill him in worship of God, and he escapes into the basement and has to fight through randomly generated levels with randomly generated items, weapons and pills to pop fighting against various different enemies and bosses’ as I demonstrate by killing giant turds with my blood tears. ‘Oh that’s horrific!’ a completely expected reply. ‘Oh that’s nothing, you can even kill Isaac’s foetus at a later point in the game, as well as Mega Satan, his Mom, a fistula and angels'. The conversation got a little deeper and I explained that there is a huge possibility that Isaac is likely severely schizophrenic with multiple personality disorder induced by his terrible upbringing, so yeah there is that as well. Wife was in more shock, maternal instincts likely kicking in thinking she could never let anything happen like that to our little girl. I could see in her eyes she felt like I do for Isaac, sympathy and wanting to give him a big hug.

On the surface, Isaac seems like a truly shallow smutty game with lack of story, emotion or any real connection to the player but when it sucks you in and you’ve put so many hours into it. You develop a strong bond with Isaac and his multiple personalities and you realise that there is so much reading to do between the lines. You pick up small pieces of lore through Item descriptions, you can figure out the twisted demise of guppy, you can witness the severe bullying that Isaac has endured at school as well as at home, and then there is all the religious content that relates to different stages of Isaacs life and how it has contributed to how his mother and Isaac are at the point of the game.

I will say no more, this is a 10/10 game and probably my most played game ever. I just love it. At 600 hours playtime, I have no intention of stopping playing anytime soon.

This is by no means an easy game, and its themes will be offensive to some. There is a lot of gore and literal toilet humor, and a thinly-veiled criticism of Christian dogma. If you can get past all that -- and you might even be drawn by it -- you'll find a challenging, engaging Roguelike with elements of The Legend of Zelda mixed in.

10/10 as rogue like game. 0/10 for keep crashing with an incredible high rate (on switch). So 5/10 is the right vote for a game i can finish one game out of four because of the crashing.
A lot of thing to do, every game is different one another, fast, fun... you can choose different players, if they resolve this crashing thing it's gonna be a 10/10, but for now just a five.

The Binding of Isaac is a game where you’ll get out what you put in. There’s so much to uncover that fleshes out the simple mechanics into a deep and rich experience, but you have to work for it. If you’re someone who hates looking up wikis or guides to assist with playing games, then it’s definitely not for you. The portability of the Switch version makes it more enjoyable than those on other platforms, but the unfortunate Australian pricing of it complicates recommending it because it’s just too much.

The points that makes the game special are the endless ways to reinvent it and the many forms to take a walk on your own path of chaos. This Nintendo Switch Version is a good way to upgrade "the Binding of Isaac Experience" which brought us Edmund Mcmillen 6 years ago. Perfect for those who never played it or who just simply want to have fun anywhere.
