The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ on Switch isn't just a brilliant port - it's arguably the best way to enjoy a modern roguelike classic.

An excellent game that now offers its best version on Nintendo Switch, with more content and gameplay that feels like as designed for being portable.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ is my favourite version of the game having played it across literally everything it has released on.

Without a doubt, The Binding of Isaac is the most varied, addictive dungeon-crawler ever made. As the most definitive version, Afterbirth+ is perfect both as a portable game for quick runs and as a docked game for lengthy plays. A must-have for Switch owners.

The final chapter of the Isaac series has arrived, and what a wacky, bare-buns ride it's been. [Issue #27 – May/June 2017, p. 69]

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ is a perfect fit for the Switch, and barring some framerate problems in local multiplayer, is arguably the best way to play this modern classic.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ adds more of what we loved about the original and keeps the formula fresh. It’s a tough game, but one that balances challenge with a refreshing feeling of the unexpected. The unpredictable items and varied enemies make it one of the most wacky and replayable games I’ve ever experienced.

I think the game is supremely enjoyable, but it’s not for everybody. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to travel through Mom’s Scarred Womb and destroy what appears to be a giant fetus before taking on Satan. Toodles!

The Binding of Isaac is a game where you’ll get out what you put in. There’s so much to uncover that fleshes out the simple mechanics into a deep and rich experience, but you have to work for it. If you’re someone who hates looking up wikis or guides to assist with playing games, then it’s definitely not for you. The portability of the Switch version makes it more enjoyable than those on other platforms, but the unfortunate Australian pricing of it complicates recommending it because it’s just too much.

Too weird and repellent for a mainstream audience, too brilliant for any serious gamer to ignore, The Binding of Isaac has found a surprisingly natural home on Switch. It’s ideal for short bursts and longer sessions of handheld play, and the sort of title that only gets richer and more interesting the more hours and effort you put in. Edward McMillen’s cult classic isn’t for everyone, but if it’s for you there’s no better way to play it.

All in all, I enjoyed The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ a lot more than I should have. I’ve gotten a lot of playtime from the game and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon, so the $39.99 price point (although higher than the competition) doesn’t bother me to have a nice physical copy and manual. Plus, the Switch version has some exclusive DLC not available on other platforms (yet), so it’s really the best version of Isaac to get. If you are looking for a stroll in hell with dark humor and fun top-down twin stick shooting, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ is a solid addition to the Switch.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ is the most updated console version and features two-player co-op. With both Joy-Con, there is a lot of game here to play with someone friendly. With over 10 endings and a seemingly endless amount of unlockable content/features, expect to get far beyond 100 hours logged in. For its price, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ pretty much has it all and more thanks to the Switch hardware. For some it may become a grind, and others may never be able to get past Edmund McMillen's wonderful sense of humour. Those who get beyond those quibbles will have one of the most addictive and creative indie games in their pockets and on their TV.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ is a perfect match for the new Nintendo Switch. Is easy to grasp and its pace suits perfectly the Switch portability. With hundreds of weapones, enemies, mysteries and rooms to explore... you got plenty to sink teeth into.

While Nintendo has definitely changed its stance in the last few decades, this game feels like a blend of old-school mechanics and new-age thinking; it's an homage to the challenge and style of old games, while simultaneously presenting itself stylistically as being something more contemporary. If you're looking for a game that will be different each time you play it, look no further.

The points that makes the game special are the endless ways to reinvent it and the many forms to take a walk on your own path of chaos. This Nintendo Switch Version is a good way to upgrade "the Binding of Isaac Experience" which brought us Edmund Mcmillen 6 years ago. Perfect for those who never played it or who just simply want to have fun anywhere.

The pre-order version or first 2,000+ copies have an instruction booklet, stickers, and a reversible box sleeve/artwork. The game is amazing fun and with all the random dungeons, will provide hundreds of hours of gameplay. Having this on a cartridge (which is how I purchased) helps save space on the internal memory. The expansions are simply more of the original and add quantity to the experience. As an indie game it feels big budget. With Best Buy's GCU discount, I got it for $31+tax. Well worth it for a boxed version with cartridge and limited edition instruction manual. Reminds me of gaming in the early 90s. Full Review »

I had put 400+ hours into BOI: Rebirth on Steam, so I was skeptical if it would be worth me paying the full price for this on Switch. Still, II had put 400+ hours into BOI: Rebirth on Steam, so I was skeptical if it would be worth me paying the full price for this on Switch. Still, I purchased it anyway 'cos the game is that damn good! HOW WRONG I WAS! I have already sunk 200+ hours into the Switch version, the portable version of BOI on Switch is hands down the best way for this game to be played and enjoyed!

Was it worth the money (again) YES. Just to have such a great game at my fingertips, at all times.

Now i can take a poo, whilst popping open more poop in search for coins. Happy days.
