150 hours clocked in and just 100% all characters and still enjoying the game. Endless replay ability and super fun. Love it

    (Good things)
    The gameplay is generally fun.
Movement is good, once you get used to it.
Items are generally useful, and if combined together with other specific items can give you bonus effects.
There are several bosses, most of them feel unique.
There are several items, and many of them feel unique.
There are hidden areas throughout the game which can spawn better items, more bosses to fight, health, and more.
There are plenty of reasons to play this game again after you beat it.
Challenges are fun, and unlock even more items to use in the regular game.

    (Bad things)
Some items can negatively affect you, and you won't know this unless you have used the items before and know the exact effects on your stats/abilities.
Sometimes the game can feel a bit tedious.
Some bosses are just reskins of other bosses, with maybe one more ability of their own.

I get the impression from playing that BOI is an indie darling, which encourages more positive review scores, however I found it a difficult game to like.

Thematically it's a great game and has some very dark tones, however these aren't really explored properly unless you are successful at proceeding through the levels, which I was not. Even on the lowest difficulty I found it quite a slog. Many of the enemies seemed cheap and having to restart from the basement after every death grew very tiring for me. For others this means a huge amount of replayability.

Essentially, just know what you're in for gameplay wise and you won't be disappointed. I was more curious about the story and abusive themes, so I was left a tad disappointed.
