I get the impression from playing that BOI is an indie darling, which encourages more positive review scores, however I found it a difficult game to like.

Thematically it's a great game and has some very dark tones, however these aren't really explored properly unless you are successful at proceeding through the levels, which I was not. Even on the lowest difficulty I found it quite a slog. Many of the enemies seemed cheap and having to restart from the basement after every death grew very tiring for me. For others this means a huge amount of replayability.
Essentially, just know what you're in for gameplay wise and you won't be disappointed. I was more curious about the story and abusive themes, so I was left a tad disappointed.… Expand
