My time with SuperMash was interesting, to say the least. Some mashups were extremely fun, while others were just boring. I have to say it is a game that is going to give you a different experience almost every time you play, and while story mode isn’t too intriguing, I can’t say fully it is a bad game. That said, I couldn’t say that it is an amazing game either. The concept was a valid attempt of an idea, however many times; the mashes felt bland. As it sits even with the promise of DLC, I’m not sure it is worth the asking price of $19.99.

SuperMash is like a dream come true… if it worked. The idea of having some sort of randomized retro game sounds great, but none of the mini-games work very well, and ends up being a little bit disappointing.

SuperMash is a great idea in theory but not so good when we put it into practice. The title has a chaotic system and some technical issues that directly affect the gameplay.

Without question, SuperMash is quirky and novel, but it’s much more interesting in theory than in practice. Although its eShop page indicates that new content will be coming in the future, I’m not sure that adding more genres or characters will solve its inherent problem: the Mashes don’t combine genres in a meaningful way.

SuperMash is a great idea that feels squandered thanks to poor execution. The idea of mashing together different genres is a fun one, but the reality is that the resulting games are only mildly amusing at best, and infuriatingly broken at worst. Procedural generation certainly has its place in the industry, with many games using it to fine effect. Unfortunately, in the case of SuperMash the concept is so inelegantly and heavily implemented, we’d much rather sit down with a deliberately handcrafted game any day of the week.

Nobody likes seeing a great concept fail to live up to its potential, and SuperMash is a perfect example of that. [Issue #49 – November/December 2020, p. 19]

If you're looking to play lots of neat miniature game experiences that combine some of your favorite retro games gameplay styles into oneIf you're looking to play lots of neat miniature game experiences that combine some of your favorite retro games gameplay styles into one then superMash is for you !

Supermash is a neat concept what happens if you took parts of the Legend of Zelda and stuffed elements of Final Fantasy , 1982, or Metal Gear, Mario , or castelvania into them ? this is the premise which fuels Supermash the creation of lots of miniature game experiences which combine things in both fun , frustrating , and challenging tiny game experiences.

The combination of gameplay styles, different visual looks, and various glitch modifiers make for an endless number of game experiences . Some ridiculous, some really hard ( a platfomer where every enemy leads to a turnbased JRPG battle) and more .

The games charm and quirkiness is in part due to the luck of the draw and sme of the settings you can select before a mash is generated .

There are lots of items, characters, environments and more which can be created by the mash machine at any point. The focus of the game is in creating these miniature game experiences which range from Short ( 2 - 5 mins ) to Long ( 20 - 20 mins) and seeing what kind of rule changes and mechanics vary in between each unique game scenario .

The games are fun but can be a bit simplistic and shallow and certain game objectives ( such as the jrpg collect / sell 3 weapons) can be kind of underwhelming but ultimately after a frw hours of playing , i'm having a good time.

It does have a disclaimer at the start saying (to the effect of) because its a game that makes games, sometimes it makes duds.

That would be fine if I would have gotten at least 1 gem in the 20 to 30 mashups I ran.

And the other issue is that it appears to take features from both genres but I didn't see it take the best of either.

I hope theres some updates that refine the engine some more but until then, it's a no from me dawg.

This is the full one.* SuperMash is just..well*Accidentally submitted incomplete review, Metacritic please delete my other review if you can. This is the full one.* SuperMash is just..well let's go into detail here. The animation is pretty horrible, reminiscent of something straight out of a Nick Jr. cartoon. The story is beyond cringe. But let's dive into the minigames. Absolutely zero effort, poor sprite and map design, laziness all around the board. The music is atrocious. The supposed mashes consist of you fighting airplanes in a turn based battle. Hence, the developers presented the game on false advertising. It does not MASH genres, it just takes one element from a genre and puts it into the game. Like getting into turn based battles on a platformer. $20 dollars is insanely expensive for this pile of garbage, especially since the game bombed on PC before it's console release. You would think they'd lower the price then, but nope. And here's the kicker: the developers delete any negative opinion about the game on their Reddit. That is highly unprofessional. In all honesty, I feel that this game is a scam. It is not right for developers to deceive gamers with false advertising, deliver a broken crappy product, and charge a high price for it. Did I mention all of the mashes run below 30 FPS? Please do not support shovelware scammers like Digital Continue. The game is a major scam, and it is most definitely NOT fun. I'd rather watch paint dry while shoving a pencil into my eyeballs. Expand
