With a variety of actions available, things to collect and different enemies to deal with, Super Putty Squad has potential. Unfortunately it's often underwhelming. There's some control frustration with the game using more buttons than is strictly necessary, with the challenge often coming from Putty not doing what you intended. A bigger problem is the levels, which often get repetitive as you simply move from one spot to the next collecting the putties. Sometimes things do get interesting, however, such as when you have to work out how best to get through a group of enemies or have to consider the best route through a level. The number of levels (and the challenge mode) ensures that there is some entertainment to be found in Super Putty Squad, but it is an average experience overall.

It was a little computer that you could play a lot of games. There were plenty of good ones, and some bad ones, but one of them got ported to the switch. That Game was putty squad.

Right off the bat, the music is stellar. I sometimes just let the game idle just to see the title screen animations. But now to the game itself. You have to collect these red guys to open the end of the level, but there are enemies out to kill you, like a flying monk, a panther with a rifle, and an army general with the body of a bee (don’t ask). Fortunately, there are many types of items to aid you in avoiding or killing the foes. It’s tough, but it rarely seems unfair.

There’s also a wide variety of moves, too. You can stretch yourself to speed things up or climb to otherwise unreachable areas. There’s also a duck move that can help you deal with projectile throwing enemies. Finally there’s an inflation move that can let you soar over gaps, but it drains your health, so you can’t use it all the time.

Finally, there’s a sticker collection book where you can look at humorous images after finding them in levels. One caveat I have with this though is that I wish the stickers were more hidden; they’re often right in plain sight in the levels. What if we could do special tasks to get these stickers or buy them with some in game currency?

That’s basically it for Putty squad. It’s a fun romp through 9 worlds and it’s oozing with personality. You don’t need a dusty old computer just to play this!
