    If you want to play Mario Odyssey so bad, just go watch Justice League. It has the same effect: disappointment. Actually, Justice League is better than Super Mario Zedong Odyssey.     And especially do NOT trust Metro GameCentral. They gave Super Mario Run a higher score than every Kirby game except for Mass Attack.
    I would trust a Hayley Atwell or Anya Taylor-Joy source like PCMag, Guardian, Gamespot, Video Chums, Screen Rant, IGN, CGM, Gaming Trend, Shacknews, My Nintendo News, VOOKS, and Destructoid, but Metro GameCentral is a racist or a Natalie Portman / Samantha Kelly, like Game Rant, God is a Geek, Slant Magazine, Games.cz, Twinfinite, Gamezebo, AusGamers, Telegraph, leetl1, livelovelaugh22, Polygon, Chaser the Ultimate Gamer, T3, Goron Dad, and VentureBeat.

    I don't understand how the metascore for this game got 97%. I'm going to give it 86%. Sure, its a Mario game, but i its not THAT good. It's still a great game to play, don't get me wrong, but they're really are some problems with it. It's pretty cool for Mario to posses enemies by using Cappy.     I'm new to the Switch and I was looking for a relaxing game that I could pick up and put down, Super Mario Odyssey definitely delivers. It's a really nice change of pace from the heavy duty games i've played on PS5 and PC lately, the art style is superb, the music is great and it takes me back to owning an N64 as a kid.

    What can i even say about this game? Its seriously prefect. Its everything that every open world platformer should be. Don't even question your money just buy it.

    I played this game and found it pretty good. The graphics are impressive, the gameplay is smooth, and each open world is unique and different from the others. However, I only recommend this game to die-hard Mario fans or those under the age of 15 because it's very easy and the story is cute but unnecessary. Clearly, the game was designed for children.     This is the first Mario game I’ve enjoyed since I was a kid. I loved they made Mario in 3D. Typical Mario story but I enjoyed traversing the different levels within the game. Solid Mario game!

    Pretty good. Good graphics, a lot of replayability, chalenging but not too hard... The gameplay, in my opinion, was oriented towards experts, many things were hidden and impossible to find without a guide, and the art style was bland.

    Out of 880 moons, maybe 15-20 put up a challenge. Moons lying everywhere: In the dirt, in the grass, under rocks, buying them with coins (why?). Not many moments that raise your blood pressure.    Very charming, very addicting, very well-made. It was cool to experience a 3D Mario made in HD, 60fps, and modern lighting. The problem is that about 97% of this game was not challenging at all.

Even the special level was a long string of easy segments. The hard-mode bosses is what should've been the normal.

    Mario's movement is the most mistake-forgiving and easy to execute to date. Controlling creatures with the cap was great, but so many missed opportunities to do cool challenges with them.

    Balloon World also punishes you for being too good. People don't bother with hard balloons because the risk-reward and ranking system favor the easy ones.

    Overall it's GREAT if you consider it more of an adventure game that won't scratch that action-platforming itch. This Mario game is more Zelda-like than Breath of the Wild, which went the survival crafting route. Devs will change a franchise to a completely different genre and get praised for "innovating".

    In the end, Odyssey is accessible for the Animal Crossing audience and recommended for beginners. Mario 64 remains KING.    … Expand

    I recently went back and replayed this game, and let me tell you, this is the best 3D Mario in my opinion apart from Galaxy.

    The movement is flawless, the gameplay is amazing and this deserves a sequel.

    This game is so joyous. The music, setting, and ambiance make me so giddy. Honestly an incredible game. Once I beat it, I've spent about one hundred hours just doing trickjumps. It's also very replayable. 9/10, great game.

    Overall I found the game pretty enjoyable, but honestly I was expecting for something more for a game ranked as good ad Breath of the wild. The story is nice and the levels are fun to explore, but in the end I found it too short and also a bit repetitive.

Mario never feels slow or clunky in the slightest, and the game gives just enough leeway to make reaching areas a fun challenge without ever feeling like you're breaking the game. Every area in the game feels incredibly unique from oneI can confidently say this is my favorite Mario game at this point. There are some areas that take advantage of this, however, the game largely focuses on the new capture mechanic and exploration rather than Mario's movement and platforming. Most people have found this to be a positive change, but a lot of the captures are very simplistic in their design and often designated to a specific area. They are intended as solutions to the game's mostly easy platform challenges, and trying to beat these without the use of captures is way more fun for me, than playing the game the way it was intended.

    Because it's more of a sandbox-like Mario like 64 and Sunshine, you are mostly searching larger hub-worlds for moons, the game's main collectible. Most of these areas are pretty flat and empty in their biggest areas, the biggest offender easily being the sand kingdom. There's 999 of them, and it's very easy to stumble upon one randomly. In the base-game, there's significantly fever available, but it's still fairly easy to meet the required amount for story-progression. Many moons are found in the bit scarce platforming challenges and side-rooms, but even more can be obtained through methods such as buying them from a shop, ground pounding boxes or are simply in plain sight. This is a problem because it becomes the bulk of the games content. If you just want to progress in the main game, it becomes really short, because the main objective never takes that long to beat, and the moons that are fun and challenging to get are easily missed, because players are likelier to find and grab many of the game's insanely easy moons. Especially since many of the easier methods of obtaining moons repeat themselves throughout the kingdoms. This is why it fails were 64 and Sunshine succeed, because in those games, the levels would vary in how you progress through them and obtain each individual collectible. Odyssey rarely does this, and when it does it's usually only for a boss.

    The best parts of this game for me were the later sections of Bowser's kingdom and the Moon kingdoms, because while they were more linear, they provided are more consistent and rewarding sense of progression. That and Metro, in which way more moons felt unique and fun too obtain, and the main area was way more fun to move around in due to it's more vertical layout.

    I understand that not everybody is going to share this opinion, since a lot of people like exploring every corner of the map. But i personally have a lot more more fun tackling a more constant barrage of obstacles that the level-based 3d Mario games like Galaxy or 3d World provide. Still, Odyssey is good game at it's core, with amazing presentation and charm. You can get a lot of fun out of this game, but for me, that fun is short-lived and mostly derives from things the game doesn't intend for me to do.    … Expand

    they've somehow managed to pretty much perfect Mario's moveset, it will feel satisfying to experience players as well as to casual ones. the controls are really fluid and responsive and pulling off several moves one after the other feels so gratifying, almost as if you were a speedrunner.

    the level design is also excellent, every world feels unique and fleshed out, and the moons are fun to collect (i've seen many people criticize the fact there are so many moons compared to other games, saying that it devalues them, but i think Nintendo made the right call here considering how much bigger each world/kingdom is)

    overall, this game is fun all the way through and only became frustrating at the very end, when playing through the "Dark Side" (of the Moon) (but don't worry, this world is completely optional, as it's unlocked by beating the main story.

    honestly, outside of the fairly easy boss fights (at least they added new foes instead of the Koopalings and/or Bowser Jr. again) and the fairly linear progression (not in the worlds themselves, but going from one to the other; you'll visit them in a predetermined order and will only get a split path twice in the game.

    in conclusion, i can't recommend Super Mario Odyssey enough to... pretty much anyone who has any interest in platformers or Mario. this game has surpassed its predecessors, including Super Mario 64, in so many ways, and those who think Mario 64 is better are just blinded by nostalgia (heck, you can even unlock Peach's Castle and a Mario 64 disguise in Odyssey if you really miss this game).    … Expand

    My third favorite mario game ever. It's a mix between 64 and Sunshine and like all Mario games it's super fun to play. Good amount of secrets and suits too. There were a couple things that really feelt out of place like the realistic humans in suits in New Donk City combined with the cartoony aspect of Mario games... it just feelt weird. The setup is that similar of Mario Sunshine which was an absolute ground breaking game in the series, and a much improvement on the big seller Mario 64.
    The special ability to over take enemies like Hammer bro, Goomba, Bullet bill and even a T-Rex...... A FRIGGIN' T-REX!!! An ability introduced into the game makes it really enjoyable to play, and it's good to see from Mario Sunshine that Nintendo EDP have come up with innovative ways to keep Mario fresh with a change of ideas by involving these abilities as apart of a story.

    Now I use the term "story" loosely as Mario doesn't really have a story, well a good one anyway. Now if like me you're thinking "who buys a Mario game for the story?" then I can level with you, but the fact that they have tried to implement a story (and a weak one at that) tells me that they didn't really take in consideration how weak it really was. It's so unnecessary, that you don't even need to pay any attention to it, the ending is only stupid anyway.

    It's far from an amazing game, but if you want fun and easy game time, then this is a certain purchase for you.    … Expand

    I thought I wasnt a nintendo type of dude, but goddamn I thought games cant make me smile anymore, but this thing right here was quite the turning point for me. This probably even changed my view of gaming as a whole. I grew up playing quake/wolfenstein/cs/gta so I never tried any "softer" games, but oh man I started wishing I had after playing this masterpiece of a game.

    Super Mario Odyssey has to be one of the most ambitious Mario attempts yet, and it pays off. No Mario game has ever felt this smooth to play, with the movement being the best the series has ever seen. The level design and story is also really innovative and fun, and the soundtrack isn't half bad either. There isn't anything bad to say about this game, it's a modern classic.

    This game is really amazing. The movement is nice and the gameplay is fun. However, after playing through the game a couple times, it can feel a bit repetitive or boring. But the best thing about this game is the speedrunning. Super Mario Odyssey is one of the best games for speedrunning, and even I started to speedrun it to.

    I had forgotten to score this game, but I simply have to say that if you haven't played it, you are missing out on a gem of a game. It's one of the most innovative, fun and dynamic games I've seen in the Mario series. Definitely worth it!

After Bowser sends Mario to Cap Kingdom he meets what will soon be his best friend, Cappy! This little fella let's him cap throw, cap jump, cap bounce, down throw, spin throw, up throw and more! This makes the movement very smooth. Specially with Mario's classic wall jumps, dives, etc. After this, Mario will adventure th ru many kingdoms to try and stop Bowser's and Peach's Wedding. After this Mario for the third time goes to space, where he would fight Bowser for the third time. And for the final plot twist, Peach just leaves him! But after this you have WAYYYYYYYYY MORE moons to collect! (880 to be exact) While some peopole might think that this game is worse than 3D World + Bowser's Fury, i personally disagree. And that's why i give Mario Odyssey a 10.… Expand

    i will start of saying the game is amazing. Odyssey is one of the best mario games. The game is smooth and fun. All the worlds feel alive and are so fun to play. Cappy abilities are an amazing idea that was executed perfectly. But sometime i thought the moons were too much, it wasnt as rewarding to find them.

    There is no crazy story or characters its all about Mario and jump and run. All really ALL Kingdoms are so good designed (Only critic is that there are to much Moons and to easy to collect but in a normal play through it doesn't destroy the game play) I Really Enjoyed Super Mario Odyssey and i would recommend this game to    This game is just amazing!!

The ending is phenomenal and this game will always have a place in my heart. It has great replay value and it follows everything a good game needs to be while still being expansive. The only downfall is that it can be very tiring this game, but I think that’s just my perspective.
    This game greatly deserves a 10, but in personal opinion, it falls just short of a 9

Boy were they right. I am not one to go out of my way in games and usually just stick to the main completion route. This game actually made me want to 100% it. While those games followed a common theme, Odyssey takes influence from Super Mario 64 and Super Mario World in that there is a (Spoilers) desert world, ghost world. tropical world, metro world, etc. The music is phenomenal. I recommend that everyone use a headset to truly appreciate it. I had chills running down my spine once I heard the theme from the Switch Presentation Trailer for Odyssey. No other franchise has made as big of an impact on the gaming industry as Mario. He is the Micky Mouse of gaming. This game can be enjoyed by anyone. Enthusiast gamers. Father/Mother playing with his or her kids. Teenagers. Anyone. I had lost faith in Nintendo during the Wii U generation. They have absolutely blown me away with putting out masterpieces such as Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. These 2 games make the Switchh worth it. I must also add that this year has been incredible for gaming. Besides Mario and Zelda, we had Persona 5, Cuphead, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier, Nioh, Divinity. Instead of debating Game of the Years. We should declare 2017 as the Year of the Games. I hope everyone enjoys these games as much as I have.… Collapse

    While it was difficult to imagine how Nintendo could top previous 3D Mario adventures, Super Mario Odyssey is nigh-on perfect in almost every way. With the help of Cappy, Mario has never been as fun to control, reaching new heights and, in the hands of a skilled player, accomplishing impossible skips. You need only pick up a controller to see why this is the best modern Mario game ever.

    The best entry to the best platforming series is so ridiculously huge it’s like a theme park made of theme parks. It’s a wonderful tribute to Super Mario 64, but it’s not a lazy homage.
