EASILY one of the 10 best games ever. If you are making such a list, this game is definitely in. Maybe something else has to go, but this game is in. Wow, this year Nintendo perfected both Mario and Zelda.

This game is fantastic. The best game of this decade so far. It's the successor of Mario 64, and it beats the predecessor by far. Super Mario Odyssey is the best 3D-Plattforming Adventure ever created!

I'm not a huge fan of the Switch in general, but this and Zelda are absolute top-notch games. Super Mario 64 was a magical moment in gaming for me and many others my age, and having these vast open areas to explore again with crisp new graphics and creative challenges is a real treat in Odyssey.

I had my doubts, but bought Super Mario Odyssey (and a Switch) on the day of release. Simply put, I love this game. Super Mario Odyssey is like someone took Disneyland and jam-packed it into a game. It's great, but I want more. I hope there's some kind of DLC or something.

Mario is played out. A has been. Something that Nintendo keeps around for sheer nostalgic value that provides nothing but a way to get starry-eyed 20 and 30-somethings to fork out more cash for the same thing.

That's exactly what I thought before I played Super Mario Odyssey, but my god they've managed to breathe life back into this franchise. This was truly one of the most magical gaming experiences I've had in absolutely ages. It's just so incredibly well done, and it's great to see Nintendo really putting the time and care into a franchise like this. It's nice to be reminded or WHY they've been around for so long, and Super Mario Odyssey does just that. I wouldn't necessarily buy a Switch for it, but if you've already got one then you owe it to yourself to pick it up.

Nintendo is amazing. The pure fun and joy that this game exudes is contagious. It is one of those rare games that reminds me of the nostalgic joy that video games can provide.

At first when Nintendo showed Mario Odyssey I was worried because of the "look". It had a more realistic and less bright and artsy vibe. At first I assumed it was because using the UE4 engine and trying to give it that "new" feel. But I was very wrong and the game has so much going on and the art-style may be the best part of the game for me personally. As of just finishing the main plot..At first when Nintendo showed Mario Odyssey I was worried because of the "look". It had a more realistic and less bright and artsy vibe. At first I assumed it was because using the UE4 engine and trying to give it that "new" feel. But I was very wrong and the game has so much going on and the art-style may be the best part of the game for me personally. As of just finishing the main plot.. Its time to give my take. And it is filled with almost zero complaints. Nintendo is always trying something fresh but not make things awkward and Cappy is a genious addition which allows so much freedom and abilities I never thought I would want in a Mario adventure... But now I cant live without!!

Visuals: Amazing to say the least.. The way Nintendo is doing this FPS optimization with games like Odyssey and Splatoon 2 is something I really enjoy. Keeping a 60FPS on the action in game is very nice and adds to the overall look and feel. The worlds are stunning.. some take a more realistic vibe with real world creatures/humans.. while others are filled with gorgeous ice caverns, temples, candy worlds.. and so much more. Costumes are a blast to grab and while they are mostly cosmetic, some open events and secrets. Simply put the game is what anyone should expect from Mario and the minds over at Nintendo.

Gameplay: 60 FPS achieved with Nintendo's fluctuating progressive meter.. using this method as stated above makes not only a more smooth gameplay experience but adds to the visuals as everything is fluid. Mario moves with all the classic abilities and even adds some new combos off classics such as the butt pound. All Kingdoms offer new gameplay mechanics with the use of Cappy and some are genious. Controls are really spot on and mario feels really well when controlling using either the joy-cons attached or unattached gives you extra motion control options. I chose to use the pro controller and turn off motion controls in the options. I still had to use motion shaking for climbing poles and such.

Sound: Sound is very well done. Everything you would come to expect from a major Nintendo release. The main Odyssey song even has the lyrics printed on the inside cover of the game case. There are many throwback and classic tunes about the kingdoms... Enjoy and check every area.

Overall 10/10 Mario Odyssey is a game that will take around 15 hours to check out most Kingdoms but the levels have so much to collect that you cant possibly see everything as beating the final boss will unlock each Kingdom and another anywhere from 10-50 or more moons are available to collect all with new characters and puzzles. And in Mario Odyssey, the places you can go and the actions you can take are all worth exploring which keeps you peeking around every bend for the next hidden treasure. No game in recent memory has filled me with more warmth and pure joy than Mario Odyssey. It is a love letter to all that Mario is and has been while also flipping the formula upside down. I honestly can't imagine not having Cappy in future installments as he opens up infinite gameplay possibilities for the future. Do yourself a favor and play Super Mario Odyssey. I'd say it's almost perfect. Like any game of this kind, it is easy to play and hard to master, so that anyone can complete it with ease, but it takes a skilled player and some time to be really good at it and collect every single special-coin and moon. Performance-wise is perfect, colourful and runs smoothly.
A must have for every switch's owner. It is not perfect, but it's really close.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I must preface this review by stating that I played Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 to 100% completion, and enjoyed every moment... now onto Super Mario Odyssey...

I have finished this game up to approx. 650 moons (about 50 purchased) and have completed Dark Side and Darker Side levels... If you were thinking the challenge just wasn't there, wait until you hit these two levels - haha!

The graphics are a joy to behold, and I have played this almost exclusively at 1080p with headphones. The audio is as good as the visuals, music is great, the two songs are catchy, and there is enough fan-service for any nostalgia nerd.

I finished the game originally (first moon rush) in only two play sessions, which was kind of disappointing... I was hoping the original play-through would be longer... but this was only an appetiser. The levels then became harder, the moons more difficult to find (up to a point of being completely obscure towards the end), but you will love every minute you play.

There are some truly joyous moments, like the first extra level you unlock after first completing the game, which gives me hope for a Switch remake of SM64...

The camera is 99.9% co-operative, but that 0.1% will infuriate you when it happens.

SM Galaxy 1 & 2 were lesser games than this... and much easier. This is a game for new players and returning players from older consoles. There are joyous surprises around every corner, and when the dragon boss appeared I almost peed myself with excitement.

I think the online leaderboards are only for serious speedrunners, and not the average Joe.

The wit and humour is a little more "adult" this time, but a watered-down "Nintendo-Adult" style. Some of the double-entendre is super-subtle, but still made me smile while playing.

Once you have the movement mechanics mastered, you can pull-off some truly amazing tricks, including mega-jumps that defy logic. People can already finish this game in about 1 hour, but with new super-mega-jump-tricks, it is truly a game to behold when played by an experienced player.

I doubt that I will ever feel the child-like joy which I experienced while completing this game again (I am 50yo, and have played all the Mario games since original NES). The amount of gasps, giggles, laughs and shouts as I played this game prove that Nintendo are back with their A-game. Like Galaxy, you can expect a sequel (or DLC) that will make this game way more challenging for the hardcore gamer.

If the game has any negatives, it would be the "arbitrary" placement of Moons... and the camera can be a bit uncooperative at rare times. The final moon artwork stars are simply mind-numbingly difficult, and were really unnecessary. This should also have been a release title.

If you take Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 as a benchmark, Odyssey raises the bar even further, and I think deserves a higher metacritic score than where it stands. I would give this game 99/100, but since I can only pick out of 10, I would give this a solid 10.

It is the only truly "must have" game for the system at this time. Zelda is great and all, but only if you like that type of game. Odyssey is truly playable and enjoyable from 5yo to 95yo. TEN BABY!!!

While it was difficult to imagine how Nintendo could top previous 3D Mario adventures, Super Mario Odyssey is nigh-on perfect in almost every way. With the help of Cappy, Mario has never been as fun to control, reaching new heights and, in the hands of a skilled player, accomplishing impossible skips.
