Super Blood Hockey plays very much like those classic arcade hockey games, and the Switch’s library is all the stronger for it. I would have liked to see more online options than just leaderboards, and the fights could use a little fine-tuning, but it’s hard to really gripe about these things when the game is this much fun to play. With tons of options to keep players coming back and a biting sense of humor, Super Blood Hockey is Switch’s first great hockey game.

Super Blood Hockey varies away from traditional hockey games, though, it still is a ton of fun. It manages live up to it’s name as it is super bloody. The bloodiest hockey game I have ever played in fact. Luck for it the game has more to it than that, it is also really fun to play In some ways, the nontraditional gameplay allows for it to be more fun. There is some unexpected twists and turns along the way. Players wanting to get a fairly decent hockey title to play on the Switch should certainly check it out.

I liked paying Super Blood Hockey, and it brought back nice nostalgic memories from the best of the NES days. It knows what worked about the old classics, and tries to make the experience new by adding its own ideas. The downside is that the gameplay was not deep enough to keep me addicted for too long. Yes, it makes a valiant try with Franchise Mode and Tournaments, and playing with your buds in local-multiplayer is super fun, but when the puck hits the ice, the core experience of actual hockey needs more to keep me interested long-term. But hey, until there is more selection of titles on the Switch, Super Blood Hockey is the only game in town and for that alone it deserves a look.

A number of different modes, including a franchise campaign, challenges, and tournaments, provide a variety of play options, but ultimately the gameplay just isn’t all that compelling. As a silly multiplayer game that you’re looking to have some dumb fun with a group of friends, Super Blood Hockey succeeds. For a hockey experience worth sinking countless hours into, the wait continues.

Super Blood Hockey is an entertaining sports game, but not necessarily one that will hold your attention for very long. Even with the abundance of options and game modes, the actual matches themselves play out rather similarly to one another, and there’s very little strategy at play here. Nevertheless, it’s a fun ride while it lasts, and you’ll undoubtedly blow off a bit of pent-up steam with this one.

Super Blood Hockey is a simple game that will last one person a few hours before it gets too repetitive, but is great for playing against others. If you have someone to play it with locally, or you like taking advantage of the Switch's Joy-Con, it's worth picking up. If not, you'd probably need to be starved of hockey games for it to be essential.

If you’re a Switch-owning hockey fan, and you were hoping that this game might fill the puck-shaped hole on Nintendo systems that’s existed ever since NHL 2K11 came out on the Wii…well, keep hoping, because this doesn’t do the trick. As it stands, you’re still better served with a Switch Online subscription and access to a 30-year-old Ice Hockey than by anything you’ll find here.

The on ice violence is very satisfying while still requiring you to focus on actually trying to score goals. The campaign mode is more elaborate than you might expect from the look of the game. Leveling up players, managing costs, and dealing with injuries makes team management quite a interesting challenge. Plenty of excessive blood and absurd humour. You can even play the campaign games with up to 4 players which is a nice touch. Full Review »

The low rated reviews allIt’s a very good game and this review is going to be very short and mainly point out the flaws with other reviews. The low rated reviews all have the same thing stated “iT’S uNfAiR aNd tOo hARd!” Then they also mention how they can’t even score a shot and always end up in off man matchups. Well, I have played this title for over 30 titles, have 4 championships but struggled in the first season. I play on medium difficulty and usually beat my opponents so badly that it becomes a 1 v 4 scenario since all of their team is either injured for the game or dead. At first I really disliked it because I sucked. Then I got good and I love this game. A lot of Arcadic fun that isn’t trying to be anything more. By the way, when you don’t have the puck, just beat up their guys and either a fight will break out or beating up the puck handler will get it back for you. Also, just like in a hockey game, don’t just go forward but also make sure you steer them to gain distance. Full Review »
