I love this game it actually plays much better on the switch than other people are claiming. The performance takes some dips during explosions and when loading into a new area otherwise it is very much playable from start to finish. I have also seen others complaining that this isn’t a remaster when the company Aspyr has never claimed remastering it just porting it. Visually it’s better than playing it on the OG Xbox or Xbox 360 through backwards compatibility due to increased resolution, it has wide screen support and it’s now portable. Sure the Xbox One and PS4 versions are better when it comes to both frame rate and visuals with additional lighting, shadows and textures . But if you prefer to play portability then this is the only version you can do that on. And it looks great on the Nintendo switches screen. If you’re very easily bothered by frame drops then wait for the patch as Aspyr said they are working on a performance fix. Honestly the only complaint I have is why they didn’t release it sooner and where is the online multiplayer option like they did with Star Wars Jedi Academy. Expand

This game is already an absolute classic, so just going to focus on the technical aspects of the port:

Disappointing that multiplayer is not included, and that the frame cap is not increased to 60 fps for docked mode. If you mainly play in docked would recommend PC version instead. However, feels great in handheld mode. Graphics are pleasing, especially on oled model (dark and light

Definitely the best way to play the game on the go!

When it came out it was borderline unplayable, as is usually the case with Aspyr's Star Wars Switch Ports. But now the framerate is finally acceptable to look at, and I love the game. It's very fun and the tactical mechanics are pretty entertaining. A bit short and it ends on a cliffhanger that was never continued, but meh what can you do

The Jedi Knight games remain the best Star Wars games on the Nintendo Switch, but if you keep your expectations low and take Republic Commando for what it is, you can certainly have fun with this imperfect sci-fi shooter. [Issue #53 – July/August 2021, p. 21]

Obviously, given my lack of familiarity with Star Wars, you may want to take my words with a grain or two of salt. (For all I know, this could be a total affront to the Star Wars canon that still has people mad a decade and a half later.) But as a first-person shooter, it works. It may feel like a time capsule from the mid ‘00s at times, but it’s a solid enough game that it’s pretty fun to play.

I walked away from Star Wars: Republic Commando glad that I had played it, but wishing that I’d done so on another console. This Nintendo Switch port simply doesn’t feel finished, which is a big shame considering how well Aspyr has done on pretty much every other Star Wars port. If you’re willing to look past that then there’s a fun, if dated, game here that shows a side of Star Wars that’s rarely focused on in games.
