Awful port, not worth buying. I was so excited for the game that I pre-ordered it ... Who would've guessed that 16 years old game that ran on original Xbox would be dropping below 15fps.... also really disappointed with Nintendos refund policy, they release broken, almost unplayable game and then don't even offer refunds. This feels like stealing from them...

Calling this “remastered” is one of the scummiest lies I’ve seen employed to sell a game.

The graphics look pretty much identical to the original release, save for some texture up scales I have read about. If you were hoping Aspyr would bring SWRC into the modern era, you are sadly mistaken. Somehow, though, despite the game being 16 years old and designed for the original Xbox, it

The graphics look pretty much identical to the original release, save for some texture up scales I have read about. If you were hoping Aspyr would bring SWRC into the modern era, you are sadly mistaken. Somehow, though, despite the game being 16 years old and designed for the original Xbox, it frequently drops below 20fps on the several-times-more-powerful Switch.

The controls are utterly abysmal. I was hoping that either auto-aim or the sensitivity would be fixed, maybe even add gyroscopic aiming. But no, Aspyr apparently put no work into making this game actually playable. Aiming at enemies is near impossible with the sluggish and inconsistent sensitivity and it’s honestly easier to strafe to keep them in your crosshairs. Auto-aim doesn’t help at all since the setting doesn’t seem to do anything. Fighting enemies like the Geonosians at the beginning of the game becomes an infuriating chore as you try in vain to kill them while they dodge and fly around you at high speeds. Good luck keeping up with that! I have beat this game multiple times and it still took me 2 hours to beat the Geonosis mission because of the crappy controls.

Squad commands are utterly broken since the d-pad control for them doesn’t do anything.

Overall, one of the worst ports I’ve ever played. Save your money and buy RC on Steam. At least then you have a chance at aiming correctly.

Never played this before wish I'd not bothered. Aside from performance issues it controls like a gba game.
This is garbage wish I could get my money back. There's no redeemable feature..
There's no run, no crouch toggle...
I can't say anything else without expletives

I was so happy when I saw this coming to switch. I even marked it on my calendar and counted down the days till the release. The fact that it runs so badly on the switch made me really sad. The frames would drop all the time. I feel like they didn't even try porting it to the switch. The frames were at 15 most of the time. This really is disappoint after seeing the same company port many other star wars games that ran pretty good on the switch. I spent 15 dollars in it and I want my 15 dollars back. I spent 5 hours in the game but the frames started to get on my nerves so I quit and I was only on the 3rd mission. Really disappointing and until they fix the game I don't see myself returning to the game. Expand

Here's hoping this prevents someone else from making the same mistake I did.
I loved this game when it originally came out, so I picked up the port to play it again but this port is broken. Your aiming locks up or suddenly skyrockets to the ground or sky for no reason and the frame rate drops to sub 15 fps. Nintendo won't offer your a refund for their unfished port so just don't buy it.

The Jedi Knight games remain the best Star Wars games on the Nintendo Switch, but if you keep your expectations low and take Republic Commando for what it is, you can certainly have fun with this imperfect sci-fi shooter. [Issue #53 – July/August 2021, p. 21]

Obviously, given my lack of familiarity with Star Wars, you may want to take my words with a grain or two of salt. (For all I know, this could be a total affront to the Star Wars canon that still has people mad a decade and a half later.) But as a first-person shooter, it works. It may feel like a time capsule from the mid ‘00s at times, but it’s a solid enough game that it’s pretty fun to play.

I walked away from Star Wars: Republic Commando glad that I had played it, but wishing that I’d done so on another console. This Nintendo Switch port simply doesn’t feel finished, which is a big shame considering how well Aspyr has done on pretty much every other Star Wars port. If you’re willing to look past that then there’s a fun, if dated, game here that shows a side of Star Wars that’s rarely focused on in games.
