Awesome game. It's hardcore in its gameplay, it's fun! Playing multiplayer it's even better! I've waited so long for this game! The only shame is be a digital only release :( And import doesn't work, because the english localization doesn't work on the hard copy...

So, I bought digital, but still want to import for my collection and yes, I will double dip.

The game.. Well. It's not very good. In terms of Gameplay. You can't change the direction of your jump in mid-air. Once you jump you commit to that jump, you can't fix your mistake once you've made the jump.
I noticed this as soon as I had played the first 15 seconds of the first stage.
Another problem i have with the game is that if you fall, (and you will at some point) even if it's

I noticed this as soon as I had played the first 15 seconds of the first stage.

Another problem i have with the game is that if you fall, (and you will at some point) even if it's just a small one. You die. That's right, if you fall even a tiny height you lose a life. This is a huge problem.
It's a Spelunky game. You don't just die from falling a tiny height (or lose a heart if it wasn't Party-), it's a problem. And you have to rely on ropes that only the stage gives you to use. You can't just place ropes anymore. You can only place bombs (which have way too big blast radius's, by the way), and that's it. Also, the Whip doesn't exist anymore, you just have this little pistol thing that sprays water (ice?) to begin with. You can upgrade it, but that's it.

And yes, I do understand that this is a game directed toward children, but also to people of all ages.
But these problems presented that you can see it's a huge turn-off to people like me, who's played a Spelunky game before and knows about how it's played.

    The story is simple.
Meteor comes too close to the planet (Earth?) and crashes.
Ghosts start popping up and monsters (Animals?) are more agressive now.
Basically, meteor does bad stuff, your job (and possibly three other people who join you) is to fix that by going through caves.
Also, there's a King Fairy and you don't start as Spelunky (No-one really knows his name, and the game calls him Spelunker, but I'm not calling him that), you start as Spelunkette. Now the first thing that I thought was "What kind of name is this?" it's really un-original, but again; Simple game for children.

I have no issue with the music, but I don't like it either. Anyways. That's all I have to say about the game.

Spelunker Party! offers a rather meaty package that will certainly provide dozens of hours of gameplay to the right audience, those able to stand the controls and difficulty or are looking for that sort of experience. Such people certainly exist out there and, while of course the unfairness certainly doesn't reach the levels of the NES or 8-Bit computer versions, the stiffness and accuracy required when playing still feels like something from a different age that won't necessarily appeal to everybody. With that in mind, however, Spelunker Party!, like other Spelunker games, chooses that approach on purpose so as to appeal to its fan-base and certainly does succeed in that regard! It is, therefore, a fairly good rendition of the series on Nintendo Switch that should lend itself well to multiplayer Spelunker parties amongst fans both online and locally, on the go.

Long and difficult but a bit repetitive, Spelunker party is a good choice for old school gamers that want a title to show their children how challenging games used to be.

If you’re a fan of Spelunker, then you likely have this game already. There is a demo if you’re on the fence about it, and if the demo isn’t a good fit for you then you should know the full game is a lot more of the same. Once I got used to the punishing mechanics I enjoyed the game more, but its platforming isn’t for everyone and the game makes no effort to help you get better at it. I recommend playing the demo first. Overall, Spelunker Party is a decent addition to the Switch if you’re willing to spend the time to learn it.
