Spellbreak is the battle royale-styled action-adventure title that magic wielders have been waiting for! Its vibrant and beautiful landscapes make the world feel like something out of Breath of the Wild, and the unique classes and abilities make each hard to pick a favorite.

Spellbreak is a refreshing burst of magical fresh air for the battle royale genre thanks to its captivating combat and flashy style, but its map has room to improve.

As someone who has grown tired of the ever increasing emphasis on competitive multiplayer games, I really wasn’t expecting to like Spellbreak. However, I was pleasantly surprised after I tried it. The combat is simple, yet provides enough depth for on-the-fly strategy changes. Despite the unique concept, much of Spellbreak is rooted in traditional battle royale mechanics, so ultimately the game's success will rely heavily on future content updates. For now though, Spellbreak is definitely worth a try.

Hopefully the development teams are listening to the players, because while it's a highly recommendable game right now, Spellbreak has the potential to become a great one.

Spellbreak joins the growing catalogue of battle royale games on the Nintendo Switch and adds its contribution under the form of a game that follows some of the genre's conventions but also brings something of its own, namely when it comes to a combat that features magical elements, rather than firearms. Spellbreak could use some more content and reasons to return to, as it can feel rather empty too quickly, but its tactical elements and fun combat, along with its free-to-play model, make this an option that is set to grow and develop in the near future.

Spellbreak is up against some pretty tough competition in the ongoing battle for your time and attention, but it’s an enjoyable romp that ultimately holds its own. The magic-based combat system proves to feel distinct and interesting next to other genre peers, and you’ll find likely yourself eagerly playing matches long into the night once you get a handle on things. That being said, there’s an undeniably strong sense of ‘vanilla’ to Spellbreak that threatens to kill it in its cradle, and that’s not even considering the performance problems. Either way, it only costs you some space on your SD card to see what this one’s all about, so there's really not much excuse to pass on it. We’d encourage you to give it a download and try it out; this isn’t the game to convert you if you don’t like battle royales, but it’s a respectable example of the genre in action.

Spellbreak is the perfect example of a great game let down by lacklustre performance on the Nintendo Switch. Unique gameplay mechanics aside, being often unable to play the game due to technical issues limits any potential enjoyment to be found.

É um jogo incrível, tem muito potencial. Considerando que ainda está em seus momentos iniciais, já vejo um futuro bem promissor para o jogo.

Needs a lot of optimization. Could be fun but it's very muddy looking and doesn't include gyro like every other BR or shooter on switch. TheNeeds a lot of optimization. Could be fun but it's very muddy looking and doesn't include gyro like every other BR or shooter on switch. The text is also very tiny on handheld.

The movement seems off, very light or floaty, almost like the characters feet aren't touching the ground when running.

No gyro is an uninstall for me.

I'll be back if there's updates to muddy visuals and gyro aiming like splatoon, doom, overwatch, fortnite etc.
