As someone who isn't the biggest South Park fan, I was initially hesitant to purchase this. I didn't enjoy the first game that much (I'd give it maybe a 5 or 6), and I was worried this would be a recycled version of the first. And while it is to an extent, there are some MAJOR improvements.

This game is surprisingly lengthy, and includes a plethora of side missions, loot crates, and customization. Not to mention that the map is pretty decent sized. It's no Skyrim, but there's enough to make you feel like you're exploring an actual town with "living" NPC's. You could spend a couple hours purely focusing on these extraneous activities and never lose interest.

Another improvement is the combat. While it's still turn based fighting, the ability to move your character(s) around the screen and switch between skill-sets makes the experience a lot more enjoyable. The opponents are just perfect, never outsmarting you too much or letting you completely win.

The story feels like classic South Park, with references to some of the newer seasons. You're "The new kid" again, as you join the other kids in their quest to create the ultimate superhero franchise (an obvious jab at the Marvel Cinematic Universe). It's consistently funny, and always going in different directions. Although, it does rely too much on fart jokes.

Overall, South Park The Fractured But Whole comes as a strong recommendation for fans of RPG's or the show. As for it's functionality on the switch, I'd say it's pretty well suited. Some of the mini-games are a bit of a struggle, and the load screens for fights can last up to 15 seconds, but other than that it ran smoothly and looked great.

I absolutely love this game. I play with easy mode because I'm terrible at every video game but Mario kart, but it's still extremely fun and it really feels like I am just part of a really long South Park episode. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes South Park.

Awesome follow-up to The Stick Of Truth. It suffers from a few technical issues, for example, the longer load times are pretty annoying being that you'll encounter them almost every time you enter a new section, and a lower frame rate. Crashed a few times too.

In this game, you play as the new kid who with the help of Cartman and the coon and friends, must go on a journey to build up your superhero franchise while encountering many crazy situations and enemies.SPTFBW is of course the sequel to 2014’s the stick of truth, and with this sequel, many of the games battle techniques are changed. Instead of still turned based game, you now have the freedom of moving across the board with the help of 3 partners to help you in combat instead of one like TSOT. Your fighting abilities vary on what super class you choose, such as Speed, fire, earth and ETC. As you progress through the game, you can mix and match different abilities from each class to improve your combat. Just like the last game, you can buy items to heal yourself, but this time you can mix and match items that grant you different benefits. I find this very creative but most of the time I don't really care to spend time on mixing and matching so i rely on whatever I pick up and my teammates.

Performance: SPTFBW runs generally well while docked and undocked. The resolution is solid in both handheld and TV mode. However, there some minor problems that should be fixed. For one, the frame rate can drop from time to time during battle, and it can be an eyesore. However it doesn't effect the actual gameplay, but should be fixed. Audio is mostly fine, but sometimes while wearing headphones it dips and comes back, only with headphones so far. As for the loading times, they are a bit long, I feel that sometimes it can become annoying. Almost every time you start a battle, you have to wait for about 15 to 20 seconds before the game actually lets you fight. I remember in the PS4 version, that wasn't a issue, so for it to happen in the switch version, is a bit troublesome and should be fixed. Lastly, I want to talk about one major issue I had with the game and this only happened once but should be addressed. One Time while in battle, the whole game crashed and I was forced to start the switch itself. The game saves automatically so luckily I didn't lose any progress but that should not happened and I hope Ubisoft gets working on a patch soon. So, yes there are a few of performance issues that really need to be fixed, I feel like most of these issues can be fixed with a patch or two, so hopefully these problems won't exist in the future.

ETC: Along with the game, all the current DLC packs were released. You can also purchase the season pass off the eshop. So, if you are itching for more south park content, you're in luck. One thing I like to mention, if you are planning to buy this off the eshop like I did, be warned. The file size is 17 gigabytes. Thats alot more than I was expecting. I wouldn't think for a game like south park, there would be a massive file size. So, if you are running low on space and want to buy this digitally, you may need to remove some games or buy an SD card.

Overall: Overall SPTFBW is a pretty solid port. There are some performance issues that need to be patched, but the game is still fun and enjoyable. I give this port of SPTFBW an 8.5 out of 10. Most of the score was based off the technical performance that can be annoying sometimes. However, once that is patched, my score will most likely change. If you are planning to buy this game for the switch, I would suggest to wait a bit for some patches. I recommend this game to all fans of south park who want to play the experience on the go. If you own the game and beaten it already, unless you really loved it, I don't see much of a reason to buy it again.

    Game Performance
decent framerate though it slows down at odd times just walking around without anything going on in game when it feels steady at all the demanding spots. Resolution looks good both docked and handheld
some bugs making me redo parts of the game due to no fault of my own. and the main reason for such a low score is because a portion of the game is unplayable, locked in a never ending loading screen when ever I enter a building for a quest, tried multiple times letting it load for about an hour and it just won't ever let me into the building for the quest and with it looking like an important quest it's not something I want to ignore and has made the game unplayable for me.

    Other issues
tying difficulty to skin color (at least for a good portion of the game) works fine as a joke but it starts getting really annoying having to play through it like that as some of us like to create animated versions of ourselves in character creators and this makes that not possible without destroying how I want to play the game.

game also loses points for over priced DLC that it advertises for people to buy in game on a regular bases and pushing the Ubisoft store on people by offering exclusive costumes for those willing to create an account, advertising those costumes in game in the same location as all your other costumes and giving constant reminders through some kind of ubisoft store virtual currency it constantly gives out any time you do anything in game.

Large day 1 patch for the physical version that fails to address game breaking issues.

significantly more expensive than other versions of the game.

There are plenty of side missions, although not as many as I wanted to see unfortunately. The main quest follows a civil war between two superhero teams as they each try to create and sell their own franchise. The story provides 20 hours of funny cinematic cutscenes and suprsingly challenging boss fights. In terms of a Switch port, the game when docked looks great and has a consistent frame rate. When portable the game still looks good but does suffer from slightly bumpy frame rates. Another thing to note is the loading times for combat which can last up to 15 seconds, but this isn't a complete deal breaker in my opinion as most of the time I would change my team members and this would cover up the longer loading times. Overall this is one of the stronger ports to the Switch, and as a game by itself is a brilliant and unique experience. 8/10 Expand

The performance was excellent, only issue is, all the loading screens, although short, they were frequent. Luckily the switch could handle a loading screen quickly but this game really needed to find a way to implement fast travel better because it was annoying. The fast travel system was so inconvenient that I sometimes would just not use it because it was faster to avoid loading screens.

The DLC and the main game took me around 50 hours to finish everything. I felt like the pacing was absolutely perfect, i never felt a moment of downtime or a lull. The story also was just bonkers, i absolutely loved all the call backs to the show and references. It definitely was made for people who seen every episode and can appreciate the Fandom of it all.

The plot went to such funny places that I could not put this down. I would play on the dock too because it was enjoyable if someone else watches with you, it's not a game with long periods of mindless gameplay as it kept the entertainment at a constant so even backseat gamers could enjoy just watching you play. Overall this was excellent.

When Ubisoft and the creators of South Park first teamed up to create a video game, the result was surprisingly fun to play. The sequel, South Park: The Fractured but Whole, is even better. The simplistic gameplay and humorous story were both improved on without taking away any of the charm that the Stick of Truth had.
For the most part, the gameplay is very similar to that of the Stick of Truth, but with a few enhancements. The main character is still the new kid. This time, the new kid is the latest super hero going through initiation in Cartman’s group, Coon and Friends. The kids eventually start calling the new kid “Butt Lord” since the source of power is from reality altering farts. Each of the kids have their own alter-egos as well. Cartman tasks the new kid with going around and gaining followers on ‘Coonstagram’ in order to get money to fund a series of movies and Netflix shows that are a close parallel to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The new kid gets followers by taking selfies with them. Cartman’s idea is that if Coon and Friends can get more followers than their rivals, The Freedom Pals, they can fund their theatric franchises.
The fictional small mountain town is more or less the same as it was in Stick of Truth. There is a fast travel system that features Jimmy as his super hero alter-ego, Fastpass, instead of Timmy. Many of the locations featured in the show are here as well. Memorable spots like City Wok, South Park Elementary, and Stark’s Pond are there for the band of fourth graders to explore. Oh, and Cartman’s house is still the base of operations for the group of troublesome kids; the only difference is this time they hang out in the basement and not the backyard. Cartman’s basement looks like a very shoddy Batcave, which is what you would expect from a 9 year old.
The gear in South Park: The Fractured but Whole has no impact on gameplay. The clothing is all cosmetic whereas in Stick of Truth it boosted character stats. While the apparel doesn’t it effect game play, it adds unique character customization because you can wear a costume that makes sense for your class choices. The character enhancements in Fractured but Whole come from the Artifacts that can be equipped. These trinkets can be found or crafted and usually consist of a few random items cobbled together by children with vivid imaginations. They increase party health, make status effects more potent, or increase critical damage to name a few buffs they provide. Also, as the new kid gains new classes, more combat abilities are added and they can be swapped out at any time.
The combat system in Stick of Truth, in my opinion, left a lot to be desired. In South Park: The Fractured but Whole, the whole system was scrapped and a new one was put in it’s place. The battle’s now feature up to 4 characters at a time, including the new kid. A grid system was also introduced where abilities can be used in a wide variety or patterns. Some attacks can only be used left or right, some are in a X pattern, and others are deployed in an area of effect to name a few. Some of the abilities featured damage over time effects and others have knockback. I found there were a few kids that had AoE attacks, and i favored them the most as they had the most versatility in combat.
The dialogue in South Park: The Fractured but Whole is as good as any episodes of the show have been. The one large difference is the level of swearing in the game is off the charts. When walking around town, the New Kid can slap or fart on just about everyone. In return, these people usually drop F-bombs at the New Kid, or draw comparisons between Mr. Hankey and the New Kid. There is a lot of swearing in this game. The story line is basically straightforward, but there are occasions where it becomes a bit convoluted. One example where the story comes a bit unraveled is when Cartman goes over the New Kid’s origin story which is added upon and changed slightly every time the New Kid adds a new class to the character sheet. The origin story changes a few times throughout the game, but always has some key themes. Thematically, this make sense as the story is being told by a group of 9 year olds with vivid imaginations.
South Park: The Fractured but Whole is an enjoyable game that is good for gameplay and for laughs alike. If you are a fan of the show, I highly recommend getting this game, Mmkay. If you plan on getting it for the Nintendo Switch, you may want to wait until the latest patch is released though. This game will have you laughing the entire time you play it. I give it a 8 out of 10.

So the plot is The Coon (Eric Cartman) finds out about a missing cat which has a 100 dollar reward for the finder so The Coon “time travels” back to stick of truth times and one thing I should clear up this game has nothing to do with the stick of truth in case you were worried after the start of the game it never pops up again so you don’t have to play stuck of truth in order to understand this game anyway The Coon gets his superhero clan back together which include The Human Kite (Kyle Brovalski) Captain Diabetes ( Scott Malkinson) Super Craig (Craig Tucker) Fastpass (Jimmy Valmur) The Mosquito (Clyde Donovan) and The Coon so you join Coon And Friends in the hope of catching the missing cat and getting the reward for your super hero franchise along the way there are many throwbacks to old South Park episodes which I won’t spoil for fans of the show but you do find out about another superhero clan called Freedom Pals which include ToolShed (Stan Marsh) Dr Timothy (Timmy Burch) Mysterion (Kenny McKormick) Tubberware (Token Black) WonderTweek (Tweek Tweak) so you join Freedom Pals in order to get insider information from the Freedom Pals and give it to Coon And Friends there are also 2 other hero’s not with Freedom Pals or Coon and friends who are CallGirl (Wendy Testaburger) and professor chaos (Butters Stoch) who is an anti hero that’s about as much as I can go into the plot without spoiling it but there are a few critiques I have with the game my first complaint is a mainly switch issue which is frame rate dips this mainly happens when booting up the game and not much after but can get annoying at times another complaint is probably just a me thing but that is unskippable cut scenes I like to speed run games but games like this just cant be done because there is almost 3 hours of cutscenes which are unskippable they use this to their advantage in the opening scene but it’s just annoying after those are my only complaints with the game and their both irrelevant depending on what platform you play it on or what type of player you are. My final thoughts are that if your a fan of South Park you will no doubt find fun in this game even if your not that big of a South Park fan you will be attached to the plot and writing one more thing I will say is that the game may be a bit shorter then you want it to be as I 100% completed the game in just under 50 hours but overall this is a amazing game and a love letter to South Park fans everywhere and is my game of the year 2017 (if botw didn’t come out) so overall I’m going to give this game 9.5 out of 10 just a amazing game Expand

This game is too long. I liked the prequel length-wise a lot more, but this game has the better and deeper combat system. Story is also inferior compared to the prequel and less creative, it mostly copies its predecessor in a bad way. Especially the end feels like a horrible stretch which left a bitter aftertaste. If shorter, this would be a solid 7/10.

Fantastic gameplay, I bought thinking in a very fun story RPG. I never thought the game would have an amazing combat experience.
It is so nice to combat that you almost feel amazed about side quests and nonsense combats.

At first, I wasn't sure if I would have liked the grid-based gameplay compared to Stick, but I was easily swayed to appreciate the mechanics. In fact, I loved the gameplay so much that 100%-ing this game, plus all the DLC, more or less occurred naturally by my simply wanting to play more and more. I will admit that there were still a few bugs in this game when I played it (on Switch), but quite few and inconsequential compared to my experience playing The Stick of Truth on PC. Both for South Park fans and turn-based RPGs alike, the Fractured But Whole (lol) is a gut-busting great time to play. Expand

This game is great and to play it on the go feels like watching an episode. Lots of naughty references :D plenty of secrets and an overall well execution of bringing the South Park universe to life on the Switch.

    The Good

    - the puzzles are much better. some of the uses of the special powers are very clever.

    - the jokes are pretty good. I like how they updated the Jared news that he was a pedophile.

    - I'm glad they have a Kenny costume. Since your character is mute, the costume is actually a perfect fit.

    - the grid system is actually really nice. It adds a lot of depth to the game. The way the enemies move force you to equip the correct moves, and also put your team in the best position to maximize the efficiency of your moves.

    - there are a number of fights where your objective is to try and escape, which involves getting to specific squares. This added a cool dynamic to the fight. In shub niggurath you had to punch enemies into the boss, which made the objective not to kill but how to reposition. These type of fights made the combat interesting and diverse.

    - the combat starts off slow, but as you gain more abilities the depths of the battle system will start to shine. And the way the developers designed it was really good, in terms of the pacing.

    - the Quick Time inputs for attacks is a nice welcome just like in stick of Truth.

    - the South park games really make good use of jokes that are in the show. This is probably one of the best TV show or movie game adaptation I've seen.

    - the passive dialogue the characters say during combat and randomly while you're exploring is actually quite unique, and it does make the world really organic, considering the simplicity of South Park's visuals and the identical features each character have.

    The Bad

    - wish I could move the screen around freely just to recon

    - I don't like the focus on the whole social media craze. The whole coonstagram thing is overdoing it, with selfies and everything. Maybe I'm just too old school.

    - the game's difficulty is too easy for the first half of the game. I had to keep myself under level almost 50% for the difficulty to be just right. The combat is actually well-designed, but without the difficulty the depth of the combat is useless. I almost gave up on the game because I thought the combat was going to be trash, but I'm glad I stuck with the game. Things don't get good until past the first half, when you get all the abilities.

    - the camera angle makes it hard to see exactly which Square enemies are in some fights. This usually depends on the art of the enemy. If there's a big enemy beside of a small at 1, it'll be hard to see if the smaller one is right beside him or square away. E.g. mutated 6th graders fights.

    - the turn bar disappears when enemies have their turn, which disrupts my plan for my next move. This is costly for difficult boss fights.

    - I don't know if it's just the switch version, but the loading times are quite long. Even between seemingly basic screen transitions in the overworld. It's not like the game needs to load a lot of polygons, it's South park for crying out loud.

    - the button shortcuts to select attacks can be confusing since they keep changing when you want to swap between them during battle. Especially if you're more used to the Xbox or PlayStation controllers. But it is a really good system if you are used to the switch controller button layout.

    - there's a small issue with the human kite ability puzzles sometimes. There are moments where you need to open up a new path before summoning the human kite, but the game doesn't tell you that. I ended up constantly dying from using the ability not because I was missing the timing, but it was because I didn't open that New path yet. This caused a lot of confusion.

    Conclusion

Despite so many negative points, the combat design made the whole experience awesome. Though you must give the game some time, so you have access to more abilities for the gameplay to really be fully fleshed out.

Fractured but whole is a great game that will be enjoyed by South Park fans. The combat is way more free than Stick of truth, but sometimes it can get very repetitive. As you may expect, you will be having tons of absurd and hilarious in game jokes and it will keep you entertained for 20+ hours.

Good game. The humor is on point, characteristical of the tv series. Storywise is ok, a little outlandish: drug cartel that extracts cat pee in order to design its drugs. The gameplay is very repetitive and ends up being really boring. Also you cannot skip cutscenes. The loading times between areas and in battles is pretty annoying after a while. Utter garbage. Cannot believe this was made by the same people as Stick Of Truth - terrible story (excluding Cthulhu in the police station mission), walking around without fast travel is insanity inducing (the load times between maps screens are ridiculous 45 seconds on average!!!) and the greatest sin of all - just not funny. Randy boss battles excluded. Wine drunk randy rules. But IUtter garbage. Those who played South Park: The Stick of Truth first and are going to play Fractured but Whole will find it very strange at first, but after a few hours, they will get used to the game's new mechanics. It's as good as The Stick of Truth, but the mechanics are a bit boring, the story is amazing, it still has the DLCS, I didn't do it because they are a little expensive. Lets Begin, So the combat layout changed allot which i like since you have to think about what consequences could happen when you move and i really like that they continued for the ending of the stick of truth then shifted to super heroes. Great Story,And i Love The Side Missions and sometimes their crucial to continue through the story. I recommend getting it if you liked tsot

Ciekawa kontynuacja, która została zrobiona porządniej niż poprzednia część. Moim zdaniem twórcy odwalili kawał dobrej roboty, widać tu pomysł i chęć w stworzenie czegoś angażującego. Ładnie wyglądający system walki, połączony z interesującymi umiejętnościami bohaterów. Klimatycznie wyglądające miasteczko daje niesamowity urok temu tytułowi. Uwielbiam taki motyw.

A solid game. The super hero elements really call for fun gamplay. However I do feel the story lacks.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole brings an amazingly accurate representation of the South Park universe to the Nintendo Switch with all the gems that the series is known for. The gameplay is that of a tactical RPG with countless character customization options and which will keep players entertained for a long time - thanks to the loading times, one can almost say the game's lifespan is extended.
  3. South Park: The Fractured But Whole is a game like its name. It's fun. With Switch, It's more fun, because you can touch the fractured but whole.
