Whether you are taking on the game’s numerous challenges, or carving your way across the concrete in endless mode, Skate City is the perfect way to kick, push and shove your way through a digital world.

A simple game with a new control scheme to get used to, Skate City is no frills fun. Yet rather than sounding detrimental, the chill vibe it brings to addictive arcade gameplay is a welcome addition to the handful of skateboarding games on the market.

It’s about as relaxing as skateboarding games get, so if you just feel like losing yourself and forgetting your worries in a sun-bleached world, this is the place to do it.

It’s a laid back, short session skateboarding game with a great style. Unfortunately, it does feel like a mobile game with its simplistic gameplay loop, reused challenges, and few maps. Despite its limitations, I found myself returning over and over again to try to 3-star every challenge long after I maxed out my stats. That’s what Skate City brings to the table. A breezy, no-stress experience that’s addicting for 15-minute intervals. If you are looking for some low pressure coffee shop skateboarding, this is the game for you.

Skate City is a calm game that is ideal for those who like casual games. It has simple controls, requiring only the analog stick to be moved to do the tricks. Despite being fun, the game has mediocre performance and short content.

Skate City also arrives on Nintendo Switch, and in a fairly good conversion.

Although enjoyable, Skate City still feels like a phone game, which limits its potential on consoles. However, it can be a good option for those who enjoy a more relaxed take on skateboarding.

I already played OlliOlli: Switch Stance, but I was still looking for something more realistic: enter Skate City.

The controls are largely the same as OlliOlli but contrast to OlliOlli, you almost can’t do impossible trick combos in Skate City. With the exception of the impossible trick of course (skate joke). Ollies are of normal height and flips, spins and grinds are done at a normal speed. This moves the focus more from gaining high scores to actually performing cool and realistic skateboarding tricks.

So far, so good. The content and visuals, however, are a little less impressive. There are only 3 maps available and while every map has almost 100 challenges they soon get repetitive. Do this trick, do that trick, achieve a certain high score, etc.

The visuals are a little bland in my opinion. The color palette is rather dull and monotonous and the 3D is very low-poly. Also, there's a skate shop which feels totally useless.

I like the realism of Skate City, but the dull colors and lack of maps make the game quick boring to play. There are a lot of challenges, but they quickly get repetitive and achieving all 3 stars in a challenge feels like a chore.

Loud music, sick tricks, in general a load of intensity and coolness coming through your screen and controller. In Skate City, sure you can do some nice tricks, and the dual-stick control setup is at least novel and workable, but in terms of the presentation and energy it’s more like an insurance seminar. The limited locales you’re able to visit are nice enough but will loop, the tricks you can do are fine but hardly get the blood pumping, and the general lack of overall variety in what you’ll do and how just fails to make a serious impression. This isn’t just about unfairly putting it up against bigger development efforts and licenses, even among its indie brethren while Skate City is OK to visit for a while I wouldn’t recommend living there.
