Cant understand why people give those very low grades on their reviews, like 2, just to devastate the overall grade. You need to get laid fellows, guess this is your problem!
Great game, logics, intelligence, complexity, historically intelligent, interesting features, I am a first time player.
Guess it is not a 10 cause I intended my wife to play with me in portuguese or other language,

Civilization VI on the Switch is a Great Experience. It amazing to see civ on the console, Especially that is portable and there is no downgrade to the game itself. Civ 6 as the game is amazing. Its a good port in general.

My second concern was the controls, I will say that it will take getting use to but you can use the bumpers to zoom in out, pinch the screen aswell like tablets and phones. Joy sticks move around the map and d-pad can be used to navigate menus. You can move units with the touch screen or with the thumbstick and A button. It works really well in handheld mode i have yet to try out dock mode.

3rd concern I had was performance. The cartoony graphics works well with the system and I didnt experience any slow downs. My system didnt get too hot from extended play either. later turns wasnt bad, I expected it to bog down the system but It performed really well on the switch.

I gave it an 8 for 2 reasons.
    1. I really wish they had released the DLC. Like I understand they probably want to test the waters and all but it would have been really cool to get like an ultimate edition with the DLC or have the DLC available for download.

    2. this is minor to me because I hardly play multiplayer and i think civ is really mostly played single player. But I do understand there are some that do play multiplayer and it sucks there isnt online multiplayer but local with 4 people.

    Handheld mode is great too.
One little tip is, press the - button on the switch, and it puts tooltips on so you know what each icon does for beginners. ( Tooltips is off by default )
Warning through, this game will take your life away. As for the people complaining about no multiplay etc, it doesnt bother me one bit... I always class Civ as a single player game that you can sit there play for hours in your own time and stop whenever you want.

I loved this game and I cannot stop playing it, very complex and real which I loved. Engaging into the growth of your culture is so easy, although you have to pay lots of attention on details and investigate what you can do and what you should do, not everything is intuitive.

    - There is no online mode
    - Only local multiplayer w/ seperate consoles and copies of Civ6

If you click 'Cancel', the game will ask you again the same thing at each game startup.... Really no reasons for such sharing requirement, for single player. for multiplayer, you could just create a 2K account if needed.

After a year of waiting for the price to drop, I bit the bullet and bought GS. I enjoyed the challenge of maintaining loyalty and governing cities.

On my first game, though, I started to notice some irritants that made dealing very boring.

I might be wanting to sell say a unit of oil, for example, and get offered (say)180 pieces of gold.
The AI nation might have enough to buy more than 50 units of oil BUT when I try to sell them two or more units, they refuse to pay more or very little more.
BUT, in the same turn, they will buy all 50 units, one at a time.
This does not mirror real life. Buying in bulk should lead to a discount I agree but selling/buying units one at a time: I find boring.

    AND it gets worse.....

I'm lateish on in the game. I 'm now finding that AI nations will pay say 200+ for one unit of coal - fair enough BUT they will also pay 330/turn for 30 turns too.
I've just been able to sell Pericles (for example) one unit of Uranium.
In exchange, I've received the Truffles luxury, 367 pieces of gold for 30 turns, 3 units of aluminium, 6 units of coal and 5 units of.... URANIUM!

I can get the same type of deal with all the other nations who consider me as friend.....

I did this a few times and then realised I could bleed all these dry of their money and resources whilst my coffers are filling up at over 4000 pieces of gold a turn; my whole nation id ecstatic because I've cornered all the luxuries, my strategic resource stocks are full to the limit,,, and so on.

It's no longer a game and so I have stopped playing.

But what really drove me crazy after a while were the switch mechanics. Everything feels so cumbersome and slow to me. Due to not owning a screen I am playing all of my games in portable mode, which has never been a problem. With this one, the small screen becomes a real pain after a while. Also the loading time for the rounds increases drastically while playing along, so that after a while I felt like I was spending far more time waiting than actually playing the game. Very little fun factor and disappointing. Some games are just not meant to be transferred onto switch.

Civ IV is still my favourite; V was a game I just wasn’t feeling as much, and VI is somewhere above V, but slightly below IV in my opinion overall.
I only play single player, so my score is based on that. If you’re buying this for multiplayer, I wouldn’t recommend it based on what other people are saying here.
This one is hard to put down. I’ve gone into work like a bag of dogs**t all week from staying up too late with this one. It’s a total time warp situation, the hours just fly by. Civ 6 brings in a lot of new ideas and bright and clear art style that suits it all very well. The new district system and the options for diplomacy are a cut about what any previous Civ game offered in their initial releases. They allow for more personal and customized cities. I always felt that in 4 and 5 that most of my cities would end up with all the same buildings, cause there wasn't much keeping you from just building every possible upgrade. This made each city in previous games feel less unique.

The Switch manages to run the game quite well. My experience with Civ 4 and 5 was on a laptop that could run the games, but very choppily. This Switch version does really fine job of staying playable despite running a bit slower once you've hit turn 400 on a Huge map.

I just hope the game gets the rest of the DLC.

Never played Civ in multiplayer so its lack of online has no bearing on my enjoyment.

I've clocked in 85 hours already and will undoubtedly continue to pop this sucker in over the next year. You want deep city world simulation. Get on it.

Civ 6 has hours upon hours of gameplay to partake in with endless combinations of victories and because the maps are procedurally generated, (you can play on pre-made earth if you want.) This would be a good game for a very, very, very, very, very, very long road trip as it is just as fun in handheld mode. There is also a great hot seat (local co-op) mode that got added into the game in a recent update, which has you and a friend or family member taking turns each playing as different civilizations in the same world.

My only complaint is that you can't play as any native American civilizations like the najavo, dakota, or inuit people besides the Aztecs.

Generally it is a good tranfer to switch and you will spend many hours palying and if you find it on a sale then it is a must game.

Great port! good port. add-ons are more expensive than the game. sometimes there is a problem with the sound. generally satisfied with the purchas.

I want to like it, but I do not keep coming back to it. In fact I probably won't be playing it again. All the machanics seem to be thought out , graphics are charming, gameplay has a good momentum and sense of growth, but it just doesn't click for me

Perfect port to Nintendo Switch. Playing it handheld where you want gives the game the perfect receipt to replayability.

Well, the only shortcoming is that the number of your city plays too significant a role. And late game is too boring.

This game is constantly riddled with game-breaking bugs on the Switch. I love Civ. I bought this game on PC, iPad, and switch. I have all of the expansions. It's a fun game, but it isn't playable. This long after release, these bugs are completely unacceptable.

This is the a buggy, terrible, not well tested port of civilization VI. Please do yourself a favor by not spending your money on this junk. That means you need to save the game every turn manually to make sure you don't lose any progress. I am not talking about big maps or 400+ rounds. I have a small map and it crash on me in less than 20 turns! I did everything, move it to the console memory from SD card, re-download everything to make sure there is no data corruption. Not helping at all. Build a new game with small map and it crashes again after a few turns. What are you guys thinking 2K Games? Is this a new way to rob money from your fans? Expand

At the beginning I a little bit sceptical because its a big game and the switch is not so performant, but I surprised when I started playing it. The developers do a great job to maintain the game alive with the DLC's and the New Frontier Pass. When you play it you are very implicated in it and the time flies by. I highly recommend this game!!! Expand

I have played this game for 3 days and I have found the tutorial, extremely boring and besides of that, I have not seen the appeal in the gameplay. I have quitted and maybe I´ll come in the future and give it a better opportunity.

This game might be great if you've played it before.
But if you have not, there is no tutorial, it's very confusing, nothing in explained properly, even if you mark yourself as never played. You are expected to just dive in with no knowledge of how things work.
    It's stupid, it's a waste of money.

I play docked with the pro controller. It’s great, no complaints at all. In fact, I prefer playing this way, I think it’s more relaxing than playing on PC at a desk.

Such a fantastic port for the switch. I've spent an upwards of about 60 hours now on the game and its wonderful. What a fantastic game to have on the go.

This version of Civilization really ruins the experience for me by focusing heavily on competitive gameplay over the sandbox aspects of the game. It will give you suboptimal start positions. The AI can definitely see what you are doing without regards to the fog of war. They will get extra resources, research and culture.

Even on relatively easy settings, it feels very much like the game

Even on relatively easy settings, it feels very much like the game is trying to railroading the player into competitive play. And that's okay, if you're training for competitive play. But part of the fun of the older Civ games was that you didn't need to "Get Gud".
You could just mess around in the sandbox and relax.

Can't really do that any more.

    Kinda ruins the fun.

I don't want to be continually optimizing the stats in order to basically function. I'd really rather just putz around and have fun with crazy scenarios and oddball approaches.

The game do not run well in the Switch, a lot of loadings and the lack of DLC content make it better to play on a PC or a stronger Hardware

Not a good port. Switch doesn't handle the game. If you have time and patience, the game might be rewarding. You should play it on a platform that won't freeze the game constantly.

A convenient and uncompromised way to play Civ VI. Load times can be slow at the start of the game and between turns in the endgame, and the visuals are nice but less detailed compared to other platforms, but still a lot of fun. Supports cross platform cloud saving with a 2K account.

I’ve been playing these games since the 90s. Alpha Centauri was one of my favorites. There are two problems with this game:

    1) the switch hardware cannot handle it. If you have a standard speed game on a standard size map, by the time you get past 400 turns get ready to wait for at least 3 minutes between your turns. Towards 500? The game starts crashing incessantly. I couldn’t even

Towards 500? The game starts crashing incessantly. I couldn’t even finish it one time because of the software defects

    2) woke stupidity. The content creators for the game have become miseducated and foolish. Older games such as Alpha Centauri were intelligent. They called upon classical wisdom. There were great quotes and sensible game mechanics. Now they quote mindless entertainers, actors, and ironic amusements. Because being “clever” is superior to these people rather than being intelligent. They dredge up mediocre people from history now just to impose “equity,” women and non-western “Great People” who are not really “great people” in the history books, but selected with bias in order to pretend as though women, Asians, and Africans contributed as much to these industries as white males. Some less subtle items: Saladin talks about “peaceful” cooperation and friendship being the way to victory when you defeat him by the sword. Yes. That Saladin. Islamic warlord Saladin. Besides the moronic leftwing revisionist history, the environmental mechanics was a great addition. It reminded me a bit of how Aloha Centauri’s fungal environment could pose a danger. The woke stupidity and historical butchery would have tanked the game to a 5/10, but the software defects are simply inexcusable for such a large studio. Do not buy this game if you value your time. Sitting through 3-minute turns at the end is about the worst experience you can imagine, and the persistent crashing makes it virtually unplayable after turn 470.

Where I imagined a fun city/civilization-building sandbox game, its a boring strategy-based "casino" game where everything is based on luck. City building is so simple (Kindergartener level) that its mindnumpingly boring (being relegated to clicking a production option, placing a tile, and then wasting your life waiting), yet the game still somehow manages to have a ton of ridiculously convoluted mechanics at the same time. Science, culture, faith, domination, and victory are basically totally separate boring minigames that overlap very little with each other and the game forces you to play exactly how it wants you to play with little freedom for deviation, otherwise you have zero chance of any victory even on prince difficulty. AI is incredibly unbalanced being either too aggressive and overpowered or completely incompetent. Did you build more wonders that Qin Shi Huang or have a different system of government than Victoria? Better start pumping out those units to defend yourself or get completley F-ed. Worst feature in this title by far is the completely wack pacing of the game. Late game is so agonizingly slow (taking literally hundreds of turns to get through the 21st century) that finishing a game feels more like a punishing chore than a rewarding experience. Rising Fall and Gathering Storm only make the base game ever worse with cool concepts (ie. climate change, future tech) that are completely botched and wasted and only punish the player with shallow stupid mechanics like unpreventable coastal city flooding. This all isn't even mentioning the tons of crashes on the Switch that make the game borderline unplayable. Overall, this feels less like an actual game and more like an unfinished demo. Expand

It’s the sort of game that, at least to me, feels tailor-made for playing on a handheld, and once you get past the loading screens, it runs pretty smoothly (a stark contrast to Civilization Revolution on the Vita, which chugged as you got closer to the endgame). If you’re a Civilization veteran wondering whether you invest in the Switch version, I obviously can’t help you, but everyone else should find plenty here to like.

Lack of several DLCs can be overlooked, impossibility to buy the big Rise & Fall expansion less so, and the butchered multiplayer options are downright annoying. Still, this is a good port of a brilliant game which is a perfect fit for Nintendo Switch.
