Long-time Sega fans who have fond memories of the mid-'80s will love rediscovering Alex Kidd in Miracle World. That being said, it certainly won't convert any non-fans as it simply hasn't aged as well as many other retro 2D platformers.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World in this Sega Ages version is able to score 8/10, mainly because it now has a save/load feature. Two stages in theAlex Kidd in Miracle World in this Sega Ages version is able to score 8/10, mainly because it now has a save/load feature. Two stages in the game - the two castles - are much more difficult than all the stages before and after them. There, most screens are very hazardous challenges - because of that, back in the 80s, I never could beat the game. Now it's possible, screen by screen, at the second or third try after loading.
Most important hints: Find and take the telepathic ball in the first castle in order to have a chance in the final rock/paper/scissors boss fights.
Gather a fire ring, a flying stick and the item B (shield) before the second castle stage starts; you need each of them to beat a certain hazard in there.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World is the first and the best game of the franchise. Bright colours, cute character and enemy design, upbeat memorable music - but also jump physics that need time to get used to. Originally the game was published in 1986 - one year after Super Mario Bros. - and really offers more variety than his rival: land, air and water stages; riddle stages (the castles); a map, an inventory which holds different items selectable at almost any time; motorcycle, boat and helicopter rides; money to collect throughout the stages in order to buy items at the shop. And the emulation features offered in this new version are perfect!
