Scribblenauts Showdown is an interesting take on the series. You have your normal freeroaming mode, but the main attraction is the minigames where you create an object, and do various things with it, such as balancing multiple giraffes on a flying carpet, or having a competition to see who can eat a pair of socks the fastest. The only downside to this game is the price. 40$ is just way too much for something you'll probably only play when you're hanging out with friends, since the singleplayer mode is so unoriginal and unfun. Showdown follows the utterly brilliant Unlimited, so the new studio faced a huge challenge. What they came up with is a party spin-off, a decent one but also short-lived, as it offers few minigames (some of which borrow from Asteroids, Elastomania or Flappy Bird). It also features a Sandbox mode, which resembles original Scribblenauts but trails behind it. [05/2018, p.60]

It's astonishing that Shiver couldn't conjure up a decent party game from such great source material. [June 2018, p.118]

It doesn't quite feel like the boundary- pushing fount of innovation the series was originally known for. [Issue #33 – May/June 2018, p. 70]
