What can I say? If you missed out on Minstrel Song the first time around, this is another great version of a great game. This is one of the densest SaGa games out there, and is willing to show you a wonderful time if you can get over the learning curve. I think the biggest appeal, outside of the multiple new language options, is just the ability to easily get a physical copy of one of the best SaGa games ever made. No importing is required now, which is especially appreciated in 2025. With Square Enix leaving many of the SaGa remasters as digital-only releases in the West (we got a digital-only Frontier 2 remaster this year, did you already forget?) I can only hope more companies like Red Art Games put the effort into putting out boxed releases.

When you find a village for the first time and it’s been completely destroyed, with no visible context on what happened or what you could have done to prevent it. When you go to grind a little to get stronger and the monsters are suddenly different and stretch you like a slinky. When you open the menu and the clock menacingly moves forward. Each hurdle is a part of a chaotic whole such that even figuring it out is part of the journey. Except for the cutscene subtitles. That part’s just a bummer.

A lot of players will find Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- Remastered International to be overwhelming, myself included. Even for those who don’t, if they played the previous version and don’t need one of the new language options, there’s little need to double dip. Still, if the idea of an open world that lets you create your own adventure is appealing, then this is a fascinating game that is worth a look.

Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- Remastered International adds new language options to an interesting if somewhat flawed JRPG.
