An excellent sequel that marries Metroidvania style exploration with a dizzying array of new combat mechanics, to make one of the best roguelike experiences of this or any year.

Rogue Legacy 2 sometimes feels a bit too familiar, but it’s a better, more well-rounded game than its predecessor in a wide variety of ways. There are so many top-notch games of this sort on the Nintendo Switch already that you may not immediately be drawn to this game due to it lacking any flashy new feature, but those who give it a chance will find a degree of substance that even the first game was lacking.

Rogue Legacy 2 is — to put it simply — a banger. While it’s not a game-changing revelation, it manages to follow up on everything that made the original great and makes it bigger and better. Even once you've bested the bosses, you've barely scratched the surface of what this has to offer, considering the in-depth New Game Plus mode and the wealth of content contained across all available classes and options. Whether you loved the original Rogue Legacy or never played it but like a good roguelike, this is a game you simply can't afford to miss.

A worthy sequel in every regard, Rogue Legacy 2 improves almost every single element that made the original Cellar Door Games title so appealing. Even its slow progression system is easy to stomach when everything along the way is so fun and entertaining.

Rogue Legacy 2 is a metroidvania, roguelite platformer that will start off difficult and move you into furthering your family tree just to defeat the final boss. It offers good graphics, good story, and a cool system for building up your characters and character types.

Really my type of the game. A rouguelite gem in 2022. Didn't play the first one but really enjoy this sequel.

The gameplay and controls are perfect and the different load outs give lots of variety.

And when they add in out of balance, hard, mid-level enemies, they just spam attacks in an unfair way because that’s the “tension”…. That actually demonstrates lack of combat design more than anything else.
The fundamentals of combat are still boring. That’s the core gameplay. That part is boring & archaic. Not much different from Ghouls n Ghosts 1000’s of years ago.

Still I really appreciate all the player friendly options like choosing enemy health, turning off enemy contact damage, stopping level randomisation….
