Rock of Ages 2: Bigger and Boulder manages to combine conflicting genres with a truly weird and wonderful aesthetic style. Unfortunately, the Switch release stumbles in a few areas namely its visuals and the lack of local multiplayer. Still, if you’re looking for something truly left field then Rock of Ages 2: Bigger and Boulder is a funny and entertaining ride sure to raise a smile or two.

Overall, Rock of Ages II: Bigger & Boulder is a solid sequel to one of the most bizarre games of the last generation. The wacky writing and adorable art paired with the challenging yet rewarding gameplay lead to a recipe for success. Unfortunately, that recipe is somewhat botched by the very basic tutorial options in the game, unexpected difficulty spikes, as well as the severely downgraded visuals of this Switch port. Fans of the series will have a blast with it on Switch, but if visuals are a priority, you might want to play elsewhere.

A humorous and fun game that gets old pretty quickly but entertains while it lasts.

It certainly has its issues that prevent it from being the masterpiece that it could have been, but I think that fans of ball rolling games will have a great time with it. As someone who doesn’t care for Tower Defence games, I appreciate that the game doesn’t require a massive amount of strategic prowess to beat, and there are multiple difficulty options for those who fancy an extra challenge. The game wants you to have silly fun, and that is what it provides. Still not sure? It regularly goes on sale for less than €5, so perhaps give it a punt then. More people need to experience this wonderful series."

I'm pretty sure I was only able to beat ONE level on easy difficulty. ON EASY. Not to mention the AI essentially cheats, always bouncing over everything or going where I literally can't place down any defences, while I'm unable to avoid anything I put down. Bonus points for the art style but I honestly can't be bothered with this one. Plus on the switch the framerate randomly starts to dip for no observable reason. Full Review »
