More like this! Classics are classics for a reason Good fun on Switch and smooth as butter. I enjoyed this way more than I did Nintendo first-party exclusives like Mario and Animal Crossing. Bring back the golden age of gaming! More real games and less infantilised garbage, please.

The game is an exercise in frustration and I grew tired of the gameplay, it also shows as a reminder as to the progression of modern FPS games and how quality of life features and improved game design have vastly increased the fun factor of this genre. I completely disagree with critics reviews of this game and it makes me question whether they were just living on nostalgia. Expand

It's everything I didn't know I wanted. Updated lighting, 2k/4k support, 2k support for 240hz, Anti aliasing, dynamic lighting and shadows, FOV slider (can change up to 125).

Includes all the expansions and a new one, mod support, multiplayer support with split screen. OH! If you already have Quake in your Steam Library you automatically get this. Other companies should take note,

I owned and played Quake 1 many times on various systems and control schemes, but never really loved it. I think this version is the best. This is a fantastic re-release for the Switch. I remember playing the shareware episode as a kid and it is great to play this on a handheld. Couch co-op is also great for split screen fun. I own the game on Steam but I bought it again just to play it on the Switch. There's a great amount of content here with not only the original game but both mission packs as well as two additional packs of high quality levels. There's also mod/ map pack support with only Quake 64 available at the moment but the developers have stated more are coming. If Doom is anything to go by, we will get more high quality level packs soon! In terms of the Switch release, you get gyro aiming and it runs very smoothly at 60fps although there are drops here and there, which is more noticeable in the bigger mission pack maps or when there is alot of action in split screen mode. It is great we also get a level select option, although I will say that it is clear that this isn't the intended way to play the game as some of the later levels don't give you many weapons (the levels were originally intended to play in one go so that your weapons are brought through). If they could add more weapons throughout some later levels (like extra double barrel shotguns) that would be great (fact: all Doom levels were double balanced to ensure a pistol start is possible). The music is also relatively quiet (as has been reported), but I'm sure this will be patched soon. Overall though, a great re-release for a classic! Expand

About time Quake started to get some attention. A far superior classic FPS to Doom, but Doom sucked all the oxygen out the room. Quake 1 and 2 are masterpieces, no question. The game is very fairly priced at $10 - I just picked it up on sale for $4, and it’s a steal. Fun to pick up and play if you have a few minutes to kill. It’s not revolutionary like it was 20+ years ago, but it’s still an enjoyable shooter. Expand

I have no words. This is the perfect remastered port of a cult classic. A historical game that increased gore and 3D sprites for FPS along Turok back in the day. It has sound effects and music by Trent Reznor of NIN. A no brainer to get for if you love FPS or frantic action games.

My first time experiencing Quake was on my Sega Saturn, which was a fantastic attempt at the port, seeing how it didn't even run on the original engine, but instead running on the game engine of Power Slave. I also played the N64 port extensively, but never got to play the PC original.

If this is how the original Quake looked, played, and felt, then you're in for a treat! It runs at a rock solid 60 FPS all the time and the running and gunning and that sweet, sweet, satisfying sound of the double barreled shotgun turning enemies into gibs is very pleasing to the ear, sight, and overall, the imagination. If this is what I've been missing out on for 25 years, it's like opening a gift twice! The "hidden" addition of Quake 64 sweetened the deal and it would have been great if they at some point include Saturn Quake (mentioned in Quake 64's description in the game) so I can revisit my teenage love of that port.

My only complaint is that I had to go into system settings and create a "Southpaw" controller profile to swap the thumbsticks; the game doesn't offer that natively, but now that I have that preset, I can thoroughly enjoy this excellent remaster of Quake and other games with my preferred controller layout.

Otherwise, great port of an excellent classic. Enjoy!

An absolute bargain."

Great console port. You get the expansions, HD textures, and N64 version of quake with this, plus any add-ons for free just like Doom/Doom 2 for the Switch. You can toggle the HD textures off for an experience that basically looks just like the original PC game, and even has a CRT filter. Pretty cool and definitely worth the asking price. Have not tried multiplayer yet.

I love Quake 1. It's very nice that the developers left the game with minimal changes. On the other hand, perhaps the game should have been ported to one of ID Tech's new engines while retaining the limitations of the original game. Anyway, I'm very happy with what the development team has done. In my dreams I will wait for Quake 2.

It works fine and is basically the same great game (if a little aged nowdays) as when I played it on PC all those years ago...

I find the console controls without the added benefit of the physical movement control really get in the way of my enjoyment.... Guess I'm a mouse and keyboard player rather than a dual stick player.... If you enjoyed this on the PC, you may find the experience

I find the console controls without the added benefit of the physical movement control really get in the way of my enjoyment.... Guess I'm a mouse and keyboard player rather than a dual stick player.... If you enjoyed this on the PC, you may find the experience on the switch less fun in handheld mode.... But once you plug into a TV and disconnect the joycons from the switch you have a whole other world - the added accuracy the movement control gives back really makes the difference between the game being playable and not playable IMO...

only other issue I have is the game save mechanic is JUST LIKE the old PC version.... which is pretty anachronistic compared to modern games where your progress gets saved automatically... I lost a bunch of progress almost all the way to the end of a whole section due to just turning off the game at one point to do something else.... I do wish there was some kind of more modern autosave happening. Even though I learned my lesson and probably won't forget to save progress before turning off again..

If you missed Quake back in the day, this port is a fantastic way to experience this genre-defining work, especially for fans of 2016's DOOM. While a lot of the old-school design choices may feel simple by modern standards, it results in an elegantly intense game that's still an addicting delight to pick up for even a short session of a few minutes. Quake's remastered port to Nintendo Switch is proof that big video game companies don't need to treat their fans with disrespect when it comes to bringing back old classics. The level of content for such a small price is unmatched, and that is forgetting a whole new expansion pack was created for this release, too. The fact that everything can be completed cooperatively in multiplayer means less skilled players can enjoy getting through with the help of others, and then there are deathmatches for some of the best arena FPS action around. Well done to all involved in this.
