Apr 19, 2020Rescue Team DX may be a remake, but it does not improve the original formula in almost any way. While the graphics and HUD had an obvious overhaul, the game is a repetitive yet somewhat charming and conflicted experience, that offers quality at the expense of some pretty weird and lazy solutions. Yet if you are a fan, you should not miss this one.

Mar 31, 2020Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is an enjoyable game with its fair share of highs and lows. The gameplay loop is really entertaining, even if it only gets challenging in the post-game. The game may seem stiff, but the presentation in general is quite pleasant. Every nice thing I have to say, there are a few things that don’t sit right with me. Overall though, the flow of the game knows how to stay on top and kept me hooked until the very end. The improvements are more or less throwaways, but the core adventure is still a solid one. That is what counts in the end.

Mar 30, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is not for every Pokéfan. Younger children who want to experience an easier more forgiving roguelike dungeon crawler with their favorite characters will get the most out of this charming title. Catching ‘em all and training teams of rescue parties are entertaining, even though this game includes just the first half of the National Pokedex. Older gamers and those who played the original may not be as impressed by the monotonous dungeon crawling and simple difficulty. Although the Switch game looks and sounds great, it does not update the original games enough. I would sooner recommend one of the more recent offerings in the series or hold out hope that we get a brand new title featuring the Galar Pokémon one day.
-
Mar 27, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is, without a doubt, an effort to bring new life to the game that started the random dungeon exploration craze. Returning players are sure to remember why the Mystery Dungeon series got to survive and evolve during these 15 years, but might feel estranged to the newer additions that mess up with the original recipe.
-
Mar 17, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is exactly what you expect it to be: it’s a fun dungeon crawler with a cute art style, all your favourite Pokémon and an overarching message of love and friendship that is generally best suited to younger players.
-
Mar 17, 2020A good remake of a decent game. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX will be loved by those who played the original. Sadly it lacks the depth or challenge needed to be interesting to a wider gaming audience.
-
Mar 13, 2020Despite some balancing issues and a lack of ambition, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX still delivers the emotion and challenge that fans new and old will appreciate.
-
Mar 12, 2020Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX is an entertaining and quirky adventure that serves well to fill a gap between the next major title release – with revamped and vibrant visuals that accompany a different take on a Pokemon game. With accessibility for both newcomers and experienced players alike, the game keeps it simple but plays well, although the gameplay may leave you wanting more or have you preferring to play in shorter sessions.
-
Mar 12, 2020Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is the greatest version of these portable games.
-
Mar 5, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue DX may be nostalgic to true believers of the original Blue and Red Rescue Team games, but it’s a more shallow experience for everyone else that makes for an entirely forgettable experience.
-
Mar 4, 2020Rescue Team DX is a good remake, but some of the decisions made make the game simpler and easier, breaking the balanced difficulty of the original. Still, if you like this approach to the Pokémon world, you’ll enjoy it.
-
Mar 4, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX doesn’t really set out to bust expectations. It’s a decent little remake of a decent little game. While a lack of challenge, so-so presentation, and an unsatisfying approach to Pokémon collecting limits Rescue Team DX’s potential, exploring the game’s dungeons has an undeniable Zen appeal and there’s certainly a ton of content to work through. This Mystery Dungeon is worth unraveling, provided you don’t mind a roguelike that’s more relaxing than rigorous.
-
Mar 4, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX is a remake from the Red & Blue Rescue Team games from the GBA and Nintendo DS respectively. It's a title full of nostalgia for those who played and loved the original, but seeing how this game was originally a handheld it might be a bit lacking for some who are looking for a brand new Switch game. We recommend playing the free demo first to see if this is something you want to spend money on.
-
Mar 4, 2020Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is an excellent remake which improves upon the original duo of games in myriad ways, yet still remains woefully underbaked when it comes to meaningful mechanics with enough depth to keep you going. As a roguelite dungeon crawler for young players it's really impressive, but genre purists might be let down. Beyond that, this is yet another delightful game which works a treat on Nintendo Switch.
-
Mar 4, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX has a few repetitive frustrations but is still charming, addictive fun and lovely to look at.
-
Mar 4, 2020The first few hours might be challenging if you're new to Dungeon-RPG. The gameplay and controls are completely different from the main games in the license, but Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX is much more accessible than its original 2006 versions. Between a cute and colorful graphic redesign, and new options that make the game more dynamic, this new opus is a rather addictive success.
-
Game World Navigator MagazineApr 8, 2020Introduction of autoexplore mode shows that even developers realize there's something fundamentally wrong with the formula, but instead of making real improvements, they just duct tape it and call it a day. [Issue#244, p.62]
-
Mar 23, 2020Overall, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a decent foray back into the Pokemon universe for those waiting for Sword and Shield DLC. However, without the Pokemon license, I’m not so sure that this game would be as well regarded as it is. Despite that, it takes what it has, and makes it a fun experience in its own right. Die-hard Pokemon fans won’t have too hard of a time deciding whether to purchase this game, but for everyone else, there is currently a demo on the eShop in which progress carries over.

Mar 6, 2020Quotation forthcoming.
-
Mar 12, 2020Overall, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a solid remake of a unique Pokémon spin-off. There's a lot to love here (especially the art style), but at the end of the day, the game boils down to an endless grindfest. I think Mystery Dungeon is worth playing at least through the credits, but only hardcore fans will love the game enough to continue in the vast trove of post-game treasures.
-
Mar 5, 2020Sometimes, a 'remake' or a 'remastering' attempts to solve errors that do not exist in the original title. This has been the case: the decrease in difficulty due to different changes in the gameplay has caused us to quickly fall into a monotony that does not exist in the original title.
-
Mar 4, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is, rather unfortunately, far removed from the game it once was. The quality of life additions, changes to Friend Areas, and a distinct lack of challenge until post-game have stripped out what the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon community most loved. It’s a shame Rescue Team DX doesn’t live up to its original gameplay, especially when the storyline deserves so much more. Newcomers may love it; veterans may fear disappointment. Toss an apple to a Pokémon veteran, they’ll hunger for more.
-
Mar 4, 2020The charm of the original games is still there, but the new art style and improvements can't help this remake: it's still a disappointment.
-
Mar 4, 2020Quotation forthcoming.
-
Apr 8, 2020Mystery Dungeon DX gets the story right, but ultimately fails to deliver on everything else.
-
Apr 4, 2020If you've burned out on Pokemon Sword and Shield and are looking for a not-too-challenging experience to help get through self-isolation and social distancing, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team GX might be the sort of game you need.
-
Mar 28, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a decent remake that nicely updates its presentation, but fails to improve upon its most prominent aspects. Exploring dungeons and battling should be standout features that excite and motivate you, but it quickly becomes a mundane routine. If you're a big Pokémon fan, you may find enough enjoyment out of recruiting new pokémon and building up your rescue team, but if you're looking for more beyond the Pokémon license, this Mystery Dungeon may not offer enough to keep you engaged.
-
Mar 22, 2020When the old Gameboy Advance game Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team get a Switch-remake the new shiny graphics makes a great first impression. The gameplay has been also improved, but not to the same extent sadly. There was a lot of questionable game design in the original game, and a lot of the old problems are still here. However, if you are a Pokémon fanatic who doesn't care what the pocket monsters do, there is a pretty big chance you will like Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX. For everyone else, there are plenty of better games to choose from on the Nintendo Switch.
-
Mar 22, 2020Is Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX a must-buy? No. Is Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX a good remake? Yes. Could more have been done with such a promising story, rather than giving a fifteen-year-old game a fresh coat of paint? Almost definitely.
-
Mar 16, 2020Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX tells a good Pokemon story from a unique angle and with visuals that help enhance the storybook feel. However, gameplay that might have held up in 2005 has not aged well. There’s something here for diehard Pokemon fans to enjoy and potentially love, but anyone else should just stick to the mainline series of games.
-
Mar 12, 2020Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX's graphical style, story, and music help carry the repetitive gameplay, but the experience can start to wear on you after hours and hours of monotonous dungeon crawling.
-
Mar 10, 2020If you’re someone who has not played a Mystery Dungeon game before and are looking for a chill and passive dungeon-crawler to sit back and relax while listening to a podcast or watching a television show, this will work wonders for you. Just don’t expect a deep Pokemon RPG with meaningful progression or impressive visuals.
-
Mar 9, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX looks beautiful in all of its lush hand-drawn glory, but the gameplay is still the same repetitive fare that the series has always offered up. There’s a ton of game here, but that’s if your enthusiasm lasts long enough.
-
Mar 5, 2020Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a remake filled with samey dungeons and mindless combat that make becoming the best there ever was a chore.
-
Mar 4, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a mixed bag. While it's great to see the series return, the fresh coat of paint isn't enough to hide the myriad fundamental flaws with it that have since been addressed in later entries. It is fun in short bursts, the new style looks lovely, and Poké-fans will be happy just to step back into the world. Best of all, this may point towards the other entries receiving Switch upscales, and perhaps even a whole new entry.
-
Mar 4, 2020A gorgeous and charming game that unfortunately doesn't improve on enough of the original gameplay aspects to keep fans engrossed.
-
Mar 4, 2020A beautiful game with potentially hundreds of hours of gameplay, there's still no getting away from the fact that this is a 15-year-old GBA title at its core. The dungeon crawling genre has evolved over the years to try and make things feel less repetitive, and while Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX does add some features to try to modernise the process a bit, they tend to fall flat. It's still fun in bursts, it just gets samey after a while.
-
Mar 16, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a monotonous chore that spoils its charming premise with weak roguelike design and repetitive combat. The colorful, new visuals and endearing story give the remake a welcome dose of character, but the added features overly simplify the adventure. It might be enough to keep the franchise’s youngest fans occupied for a few hours, but there are plenty of other Pokémon games on Switch that deliver a more satisfying experience for all ages.
-
Mar 16, 2020Complex mechanics wrapped in a overly-childish shell leaves the latest entry in the Pokemon series feeling like a missed opportunity with no clear target audience. From it's dire gameplay, to its tedious mechanics and terrible story, there's little to love here. This unfortunately is one you definitely do not want to catch...

Mar 4, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX is pleasant and cheery, but for every moment of depth there's an accompanying frustration.
-
Mar 11, 2020Rescue Team lets me get to know Pokémon as actual people, often building on top of the decades of fandom and indirect characterization established by the games. Of course Charizard is in a cool rescue team that everyone looks up to. Of course Gengar the ghost is a devilish jerk who steals from others. Of course the motherly Khanghaskan, who carries around a child in her pouch, calls you sweetie when you use her storage services. It’s enough to make me want to never see another human in a Pokémon game ever again.
-
Mar 6, 2020Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a perfectly serviceable remake that does just enough to advocate for its existence. As a Switch game, it is undeniably cute; the new, soft art style suits it well. I like Charmander’s little bandana. But there’s little else to praise in an otherwise tepid experience. It’s kind of like eating food you forgot to season. Sure, it’s bland, but it serves its basic purpose.
