Slay foes in fast-paced, visceral first-person melee action using fisticuffs, class abilities, and wielding from a selection of more than 200 weapons. Attack with improvised armaments like barstools, implements of pain like shurikens, and say hasta la vista to foes with deadly firearms. Expand

While Paint The Town Red might be a more robust experience on PC, the Switch version feels almost like a tech demo in comparison, delivering a decent but too-shallow fighting experience that wore out its welcome after just a couple of hours.

Through future updates and optimisations I believe it can be even better. Sadly no multiplayer or user made content, with the latter being understandable.

There is also an option to limit framerate to 30 - the game can hit 60, but more often than not when you look at masses of people and objects, it'll dip down to 30. So if you don't mind the framerate going up and down, you'll like this option. Otherwise, turn the limiter on.

In the end, it's basically PTTR on Switch but without multiplayer or custom content. Worth looking into if you own a Switch and like beat em ups.

In the case of Paint the Town Red the perspective has been mixed with the classic beat-em-up, resulting in a brawler that obviously then has its own unique feel. Mechanically, once you get used to the charged attacks, the power of picked up weapons, and just the flow of things, it may not be an ideal marriage but it works pretty nicely. I’d say the bigger problem is that the game has taken a kitchen sink approach to what style of game it wants to be, allowing you to simply straight-up brawl in different settings, engage in what’s roughly a roguelike dungeon crawler, or take on a gladiator-style arena setup. This gives all of the modes more of an unpolished feel that makes the end result seem novel but a bit rudderless as a whole.
