I like the aesthetic of this game, the visual style, the sound design, the music, but I have no desire to put myself through not having fun while becoming familiar with what each spell does.

Despite what some of the positive reviews say, this is not about the game being hard. If you don’t know how to play a game, of course it would be hard. The problem is that in order to have fun

The problem is that in order to have fun playing the game you need to be familiar with the spells, and that process of becoming familiar with the spells is just not fun.

The developer could include more information for each spell card in your hand, so you actually know what each spell is going to do.

The developer could also include assist modes to allow players to focus on becoming familiar with the spells while being new to the game. Allowing the player to slow down the combat (That's a no brainer. So many more people could jump into this game and not be scared off by the speed) or having the combat slow when the player stops moving. Disabling the energy bar so the player has less to focus on.

The actual gameplay is fun, but it’s frustrating never knowing how a spell is going to act.
While some may feel resistant to players asking for assists, I would rather have fun learning to play the game my way, than just not playing the game at all.

One Step From Eden is a lot of fun with its unique combat and deck-building capabilities and would be perfect for anyone who enjoyed Slay the Spire. I just wish it was a little more forgiving and with a very slow unlock rate you have to put in a lot more than what you get back.

One Step from Eden is a very good choice for roguelike players, Mega Man Battle Networks fans or just people who want an endless game. But if your preferences are games with a very good story or games that doesn’t require a lot of effort to be rewarded, this might not be your game.

One Step From Eden clearly wants remind players of the long forgotten Mega Man Battle Network games, but it is absolutely more than some petty imitation. This is a thoughtful and strategic deck-building action game that is looking to make you scream in frustration and come back for more.
