As a veteran player of these games and real life skateboarder it’s easy to appreciate what these games do. While they seem like simplified Tony Hawk games, there’s a lot more depth in the grinds and flips with a surprising amount of accuracy. That being said, OlliOlli World improves on the blueprint laid out in previous entries in almost every way. The animation is impressively overhauled, the level design is intricate while evolving, and the gameplay is as smooth as butter with even more ways to flow. There’s something to be said about iterative evolution but this is on another level of progression that makes the older games harder to go back to. Trust me, I tried and it was a grind.

OlliOlli World delivers a fantastically fun and motivating experience based on skateboarding in a 2D environment, fully in line with its predecessors. Joining an excellent level design and magnificent artwork and soundtrack, OlliOlli World pushes players to perform in a creative and daring way through its skillfully designed levels and the result is a game that fits perfectly, whether on a television screen or on the Nintendo Switch screen.

It’s early days of course, but OlliOlli World ranks amongst my favourite games of the year so far. Its sleek, satisfying gameplay coupled with luscious graphics and sounds both pristine and punchy make it a must-buy for fans of the skating genre. But beyond that audience, it’s also highly recommended for anyone who loves finding a sense of flow, of rhythm, in their lives. Deep breath then, in through the nose, out through the mouth… And then drop down that ramp into the wildest, weirdest, and friendliest sports game you’ll play in 2022.

After playing the first two OlliOlli games, I walked away feeling satisfied but not exactly clamouring for another one. OlliOlli World surprises me then, as not only was my time spent enjoyable but easily the most fun I’ve had with the series yet. The skating itself remains just as challenging and fun as ever while the injection of a story, characters and more only serve to enrich the experience and world of OlliOlli further. This is one skateboarding game you’ll definitely want to grab your board and start shredding for.

Matching tight, intricate controls with a vibrant style and high-spirited, energetic world, OlliOlli World delivers the best skateboarding experience on Switch. The series has taken a significant leap forward and absolutely stuck the landing. An essential indie for any skateboarding fans.

Rarely has skateboarding in a game felt so creative and accessible as it does in OlliOlli World. It’s very much more of the grind-based platforming that long-time fans will know, just with even more tricks and challenges primed to keep you coming back for more.

OlliOlli World is one of the finest skateboarding games around. The gameplay is fun, intuitive and simple enough for newcomers to enjoy while having complex layers that will have skate veterans everywhere grinding to master.

OlliOlli World takes Roll7's refined 2D skateboarding concept to cosmic heights. Tight and challenging gameplay, a high skill ceiling, dozens of hours of content, and a remarkably stylish sense of presentation combine to make this a release you absolutely don’t want to miss. It's an easy recommendation to pretty much any Switch owner, especially those who are easily roped in by score-chasing releases or super hard platforming, OlliOlli World is a shining example of the distinct kind of innovation and quality that can come from inspired indie game studios.

OlliOlli World is a finishing touch for the saga. In addition to having excellent gameplay, a large number of levels and good mechanics, it knows how to make it more accessible for newer players. It doesn't lose the level of challenge.

While I might have liked slightly more memorable levels or stronger personality from the supporting cast, OlliOlli World provides hours of skating bliss with rock-solid controls and a great sense of progression. Once you’re in the zone, it’s easy to lose hours as your quest for Gnarvana provides a sense of gaming nirvana. This one’s definitely worth a look.

A bright and breezy revamp which builds on OlliOlli’s established mechanics with an abundance of personality and reverence for skateboarding culture.

In short, it's more complete, more pleasant to watch, still as exhilarating and quick to play. A real achievement for the license.

At the heart of all this, though, OlliOlli World is classic OlliOlli. It’s part combo-centric skating game, part momentum-driven platformer, part arcade-style score chaser that rewards mastery and experimentation. All these pieces come together wonderfully, and those moments when you’re grinding along a tree branch or the spine of some monstrous skeleton in the desert, clinging to your perfect combo and praying you nail the landing, are pure adrenaline. New tricks, new gimmicks, and an intriguing new setting add a lot to an already strong core, and there’s more room for expression and a lower skill floor, but OlliOlli World is still the absolute rush OlliOlli has always been.

That whimsy never loses its appeal or delight, even as I’m wall-riding myself into gaps or wiping out down sets of stairs. Instead, it amplifies the joy and generosity of a world built on an earnest love of skateboarding. [Polygon Recommends]

What a fantastic game! It is really lovely. I liked the previous ones, but this one has just so much style! I love the gameplay. TheWhat a fantastic game! It is really lovely. I liked the previous ones, but this one has just so much style! I love the gameplay. The checkpoints, and the freedom to chase "challenges" for each track adds a lot. The game is as easy as you want and as hard as you want it to be, assuming there are no talent-locks in the following chapters. I always try to get all challenges and have managed to do so in almost all tracks I played so far. The customization is great, the characterization really allows fun combinations. I'm not even at the second island yet but I really love this and can confidently say it is a great game. (A minor drawback is the "dialogue" with the skater gang, although it is fairly irrelevant to the overall experience.) Will update this review when I complete it. Oh, and it runs great on the Switch, no issues at all, both in handheld and docked. Full Review »

Incredibly fun and cute. It’s easy to learn, hard to master and rewards you for persistence. It also allows you to play at your own paceIncredibly fun and cute. It’s easy to learn, hard to master and rewards you for persistence. It also allows you to play at your own pace whether that be completing all the optional challenges or just focusing on levels. Insane level of customization for your character, cartoonish and well done art style, plus a very stable frame rate on my older pc. Highly recommend. Full Review »
