Sep 10, 2023Incredible art, music, voice acting and story. The JRPG style gets a little grindy but is managed well in this title.

Aug 23, 2023JRPG perfection: graphics, music, stories and plot twists at the end make this one of the best games in recent years!
-
Aug 15, 2023A blast from the past! It keeps the heart of old style rpgs while having updated graphics.
Amazing game highly recommend. -
Jul 14, 2023An SNES RPG classic made for Switch, will make you feel like you’re playing in your childhood bedroom.
-
Jul 7, 2023+ Epic and gorgeous soundtrack
+ World inspired by the golden age of RPGs is gorgeously realised
+ Puzzle-like combat mechanics are excellent
+ Character classes, levelling and equipment management has great depth
- Lack of compelling overarching story and character interaction
- Writing and dialogue is entirely skippable at times
- Pacing is a bit off given the 8 different paths -
Jul 6, 2023Pixel JRPG had a strong start with it's visuals and music presentation. Sadly, story it self is too short and generic to be a story driven game. The combat improvement also stops half way into the game, making it very tiresome and repetitive through out rest of the game. Very disappointed on how it became bland very quickly into the game.
-
May 29, 2023Great game play mechanics including a really interesting job system. Only complaint is that the story is very very lackluster.
-
May 19, 2023How would you rate a game that purposefully creates a disjointed story with a hidden unifying (and extremely hard) story chapter, then proceeds to bloat the gameplay with grind and repetitive design to last 80-100 hours? I gave it 10 hours and the other reviews' many criticisms are on point. Avoid.

Feb 21, 2023A stunning looking game with one of my favorite soundtracks in video games that gets held back by lots of grinding and predictable story.

Jan 31, 2023Pros:
Incredibly fun gameplay
Beautiful 2D graphics without feeling dated
Great soundtrack
Cons:
Character paths conjoin in a very minor way; does not explain why Therion allows party members -

Nov 24, 2022an absolute masterpiece! plot, music, characters, style. excellent voice acting. a stunning world that is fun to explore. one of the best JRPGs for me. there is nothing more to add. bravo!
-
Nov 22, 2022Only leaving this review to counter act attemptatreasons moronic review, he clearly doesn't understand what 'user' score means. It doesn't matter what you think it deserves, its what the game earned from its users. Also his review is void because he clearly never played the game. If he did he would of known that there is special party dialog.
-
Oct 11, 2022A brilliant turn-based battle system with a stunning visual aesthetic. It is a shame the game is ruined by an unfair superboss that makes you do too much to reach it without being able to save. Should you fail, you will need to restart hours of work.

Aug 26, 2022this game is not good the gameplay is boring and the story is very easy. this is not a good one
-
Aug 24, 2022Octopath Traveler is bolstered by a strong soundtrack coupled with amazing visuals. If you enjoy older JRPG's then this game should be right up your alley. The 2D-HD style is phenomenal and seems like a great way to remaster older games.
As others have noted, there is no real overarching plot, but 8 separate stories. This did not bother me and kept the game refreshing during its long run time. -
Aug 16, 2022Simplemente genial.
-
Aug 6, 2022The music and the graphic are amazing. If you are big fun of JRPG, this is a must play.
-
Jul 21, 2022It’s like injecting pure cringe weeb filth into yourself as a punishment. Dull, boring and hilariously cringe dialogue. Yes the graphics are nice but that doesn’t change the fact the core games blows.
-
Jul 19, 2022Octopath traveller is the best JRPG in the video game history. 8 characters/ 8 histories and an amazing gameplay
-
Jul 19, 2022Octopath is a fantastic game. The fighting system is great, the characters appealing and it offers an OST that's absolutely stunning. The overworld may be a little bit flat but what really lets this game shine are the stories and even more, the characters within

Jun 30, 2022this game is so short. i really dislike the soundtrack and how easy it is. why hits like these
-
Jun 18, 2022Stunning visuals and music, fun battle system, but with many shortcomings in the story, instead of "Octopath Traveler" could be named "Eight Short Stories" subtitle "None of them memorable"

Apr 25, 2022i am really wondering how this game came about. Did Nintendo just wake up and say " lets make a RPG that looks like crap in 2018" "lets make it look like an SNES game on a system that has more power then it shows. This crap would not fly on a PS4 or PS5. I love Nintendo more then anything but lets make games play and look good like they have hundreds of times.

Mar 16, 2022For those that love the 2D 16 bit RPG's back in the day you are going to be in for a treat. Visuals are stunning. Fantastic soundtrack. It sure is nice to still have some JRPG's that are turned based as that style has gone out of fashion over the years. (Try the demo if you want a sample)

Jan 27, 2022A deeply dated and tedious RPG experience, Square Enix did it very poorly with this project
It abuses an abusive Grinding, an unfair progression, and the graphic and artistic style is horrible. -
Jan 2, 2022I enjoy the story and the gameplay of this game. I would recommend getting this game.
-
Nov 25, 2021The dising of Octopaht Traveler is amazing. The soundtrack,The Story and the travelers are sooo Good. A really good game and a big recommendation for hardcore JRPG Fans!
-
Nov 21, 2021the developers popped off.
It's a very grindy game. Like, too grindy. And I don't even care because the combat is so fun. The art style and soundtrack is godly, the stories (multiple) are AWESOME.

Oct 13, 2021One of the best RPGs of the generation, so many hours of fun, one of the best on the Switch.
-
Sep 28, 2021A beautiful game that is very charming, great battle mechanics and an incredible soundtrack. Only criticism is the story felt a little hollow as it's fragmented through all the various characters different story lines.
-
Aug 18, 2021Clever little JRPG that has some fresh mechanisms in combat. Eight intertwined stories come together to tell quite a tale.

Jun 18, 2021This game; geez, where to start. It is annoying as all get up. Too many random battles, the level design is terrible with the '3d', and the minimap and world map are useless for navigating around the huge world. Literally, you can only accidently stumble upon things and all the while fighting unending hordes of weak monsters. Very disappointed..............

Mar 28, 2021too repetitive, needs so much grinding, combat system looks good in theory but its not fun you do all the things again and again in the combat for grinding xp then you reach the next chapters level watch some long and boring cutscene fight some boss and do it again and there is not 8 unique characters there is 4 skills and and there is 1 skill for every 2 character.

Jan 21, 2021I love this game! The turn based battle system is perfection. The boost system is really fun and I enjoyed the depth and strategy required to defeat each unique boss battle. It was a pleasure to discover each characters storyline and the music was fantastic.
-
-
Nov 2, 2020I’m generally not an RPG fan, and this game didn’t do anything to change that.
-
-
Dec 14, 2020a really enjoyable JRPG which is visually beautiful with amazing music , the stories in the games are done pretty well though they are a bit disconnected , the gameplay is really good and has a bit of depth with the BP system and break system , this game has easily 80+ hours of gameplay and just a really good overall game

Dec 5, 2020If you enjoyed SNES era JRPGS then this is a must play. I don't recall the last time I had this much fun playing a 16 bit style game. My only complaint is the mid game grind. It's tedious.
-
Dec 5, 2020Created account to rate this game. This game is a MUST OWN for fans of old school JRPG turned base battle. I can spend hours just grinding in this game. The battle system remains faithful to the best and the vast map, enemies and areas help keep the battles varied. Trust your gut on this game. Octopath is a gem.

Sep 29, 2020The reality I mean under 9.0 just breaks my heart into piece. I asked to myself times whether I am stubborn because of the nostalgia of Classic RPG. So I just went to listen to the For redemption + Decisive I from the OST, and it had been already worthy to get 9.0 at least.

Aug 17, 2020I wanted to love it but it was just bad. Story was a mess, combat wasn't interesting and you couldn't take 2 steps between random encounters that take far too long to deal with. The graphics and sound weren't bad for what they aimed for but still could've been better, especially at full price.
-

Jun 27, 2020One of the best modern RPGs I've ever played. A complete experience with all the story and characters :)
-
Jun 22, 2020The job system is excellent but it isn't very well supported by the story, which lacks cohesion and forward momentum.
-
Jun 22, 2020It is similar to the Korean RPG game 'Nexus, the Kingdom of the Winds'.
The characters and graphics are very similar. It was fun. -

Jun 21, 2019While those looking for a deep, story-heavy RPG might find Octopath Traveler lacking, the game is a hugely enjoyable modern take on traditional turn-based games of yesteryear with a collection of short story, rather than novel-length, narratives. The graphics represent the pinnacle of pixel art and the score is amazing. This game was pretty much a system-seller for me and well worth every penny and hour spent with it.
-
CD-ActionOct 25, 2018You can either hate Octopath Traveler’s art direction or love it, but it definitely will not leave you indifferent. Distinct visuals are just one of the game’s many strengths which make it a feast for the fans of jRPGs – and much more than that. It’s not flawless though – the dungeons are bland and there are virtually no relations between the characters in your party as they don’t communicate almost at all. [09/2018, p.66]
-
Sep 13, 2018Octopath Traveler is unapologetically old-school, and would not have been out of place if it had released back in the golden age of JRPGs.
