Apr 20, 2018If you or your kid loves to play open-ended games like Minecraft or create inspired Lego creations without instructions, the Variety Kit is a great way to go.
-
Nintendo Force MagazineSep 5, 2018Not every Toy-Con is a masterpiece, but the variety of the Variety Kit makes the whole set absolutely worth your consideration. [Issue #34 – July/August 2018, p. 69]

May 20, 2018Though not perfect, what the Nintendo Labo does and what it has the potential to do outshines its minor flaws as a product.
-
Jul 15, 2018What Nintendo Labo achieves is, at its core, exactly what Wii Sports achieved for the Wii in 2006. It encourages non-video gamers the chance to get involved with something their children love. It brings family to the fore, allows for natural teamwork to evolve and both nurtures and inspires creativity. And quite frankly, that’s hard to put a price on.

LEVEL (Czech Republic)Jul 13, 2018Nintendo went against the stream with cardboard and scored. If you have children, do not hesitate. You cannot find anything better for Switch. [Issue#286]

May 21, 2018It's clever, it's impressive and it's undeniably Nintendo. If you have children and a Nintendo Switch - and your children love being creative - then it's hard not to say it's essential. However, despite its undeniable charm, it's very niche, it's expensive and not for everyone.
-
May 11, 2018The Nintendo Labo Variety Kit is a great interactive model/science kit to put together with your kids. If you like building or tinkering with stuff, you'll like this. If that's not your thing, you might find it tedious. Not a ton of replay value, but the construction seems sturdy. Overall, a very unique new 'game' for the Nintendo Switch.
-
May 3, 2018The Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit is just what it says on the tin - one that serves up a variety of unique and interactive toys to build. Through a brilliant interface and robust card shapes, the kit offers hours of DIY building fun - with an interactive pay-off. The mini-games are somewhat short, leaning more towards concept pieces, but with the Labo Garage included, it creates limitless possibilities to explore and invoke a little mischief, too!
-
Apr 30, 2018I will never doubt Nintendo in its pure, honest pursuit of making gaming a labour of love, passion, and enjoyment.
-
Apr 30, 2018Nintendo Labo might seem like a gimmick - and it is, to a certain extent - but there’s far more it than at first meets the eye. It’s a collaborative concept as rewarding in its construction as it is in its final result (much like any LEGO build you’ve ever worked on), and one that utilises every facet of Switch’s DNA in a way only Nintendo could pull off. With the unbound potential of Toy-Con Garage at its heart, Nintendo Labo mixes the physical and digital so seamlessly even its hefty price tag shouldn’t put you off.
-
Apr 27, 2018Nintendo Labo is an awesome new way to help kids think and play creatively.
-
Apr 26, 2018Traditional "hardcore" gamers won't get the most out of Labo unless they're willing to massively step outside of what is their gaming comfort zone, while creatives, musicians and children will find so, so much to do and enjoy. But regardless of your playstyle or preference, I can heartily recommend trying Nintendo Labo when you get the chance to put your hands on it. Playing it is fun, everything works, but the satisfaction of building your own peripherals is entirely unique.
-
Apr 20, 2018Even if no one in your family gets into the Toy-Con Garage, the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con Variety Kit should still provide plenty of fun. My family was amazed while making these ingenious, multifaceted models and delighted as we watched them come to life with a little digital magic.
-
Aug 25, 2018A solid introduction to the world of Switch-powered cardboard craftables. It may get a bit tedious and repetitive during its laborious building and simplistic play sessions, but the creative freedom it allows once you dig a little deeper is truly something extraordinary.
-
May 14, 2018Nintendo went ahead and cemented itself as not only the oddball of the gaming industry but as the king of left field. The Labo has some great ideas stored inside of it and the experience itself of building the Toy-Cons was quite enjoyable – albeit a bit shallow in terms of some of the games.
-
May 11, 2018The Nintendo LABO Variety Kit has some fun and satisfying aspects to it, but it lacks any real longevity. And now I’m faced with the ultimate dilemma – where the heck will I store all these cardboard projects now?
-
May 8, 2018Whilst the creative process is cathartic and fun, the games on offer will appeal to the younger audience, or the families who show it off at parties.
-
Apr 30, 2018The Labo Variety Kit contains five different builds, each with their own intricacies and eccentricities. While the introductory RC Car is a quick 10-minute build, the other four (Motorbike, Piano, Fishing Rod, and House) are much more involved.
-
May 30, 2018The Toy-Con 01 is a good fun for parents who want to share some playing time with theirs kids. But even though the building part of the game is fun, the fun itself evaporated quickly when it comes to actually playing.
-
May 1, 2018And that's just what Labo is at the moment: a great tool for creation, rather than for playing.
-
Apr 29, 2018The cardboard is surprisingly robust, the assembly of the sometimes intricate designs is a as time consuming as it is fun. But despite the interesting concept, the minigames that come with it are merely snacks.
-
May 18, 2018I love the inventiveness of Nintendo Labo and can see the potential in broader projects down the line.

Apr 20, 2018Labo is precisely the sort of wild idea that Nintendo somehow pulls out of its hat and succeeds at. It's surreal, enchanting, challenging and turns the concept of using the Switch inside out. As my son said, "It's like an extension of the Switch." It's impressed everyone I've shown it to. But it's not necessarily something everyone's going to want to use. [4 Stars]
-
Apr 23, 2018Building these toys back-to-back in a rush just doesn't seem like what it was made for. It's made for creativity, thinking on your own, and a million other things that you would have never have thought a video game console could do. My only worry is where I'm going to store all this cardboard, and if the games will continue to hold the interest of both myself and my son beyond the initial impact of how cool it is to make something like this.
-
Apr 24, 2018Labo's best, then, as a collaborative experience, bringing parents and their brood together to flip, fold, tab and, finally, take turns on another fascinating step forward for the ever-unique Nintendo.
-
May 4, 2018No one else could pull this off, no one else would even dare try. It is a brilliant, wholesome and memorable way to spend your time, and while it might borrow from Lego and origami, and probably a million other places, it is unique. [Essential]

Apr 20, 2018One of the great fallacies of children’s entertainment is that kids need things to be simple. Kids love diving deeply into complicated things, accumulating knowledge that is out of reach of the adults around them. Nintendo has always understood this, but Labo is a unique expression of this understanding, something that extends beyond the virtual world. More of a madcap engineering kit than a game, it feeds and rewards creativity and curiosity. As an adult, you’re along for the ride, but if you’ve got imaginative children in your life, seeing how they respond to this marvelous toy factory will be a great joy.
-
Apr 23, 2018It’s unclear how much Nintendo is going to market Labo as an educational toy but it certainly has great value as such. It not only stimulates artistic urges but making full use of each of the Toy-Con garages feels like the most entertaining science lesson ever. The potential seems limitless and while Labo may not be a video game – and in that sense will provide little relief to Switch owners looking for something new to play – it could well be the next big thing. For big kids as well as little ones.
-
Apr 29, 2018Labo has me thinking about what else is possible with the Switch and, impressively, managed to make the console feel even more amazing.
-
Apr 20, 2018Labo is an experience where creating and building are just as much fun as playing. It eases you into this world: at the beginning, you’re simply folding cardboard. But just a few hours later, you’re trying to figure out how to turn a box into an interactive drum kit.
-
Apr 20, 2018What’s most interesting about Labo isn’t necessarily how the cardboard toys come together, but what you can actually do with them once they’re assembled. Labo’s functionality depends entirely on how the Joy-Con remotes and Switch tablet cooperate with each other — and it’s not in the way you might expect a traditional controller and game console to work together.
-
Apr 20, 2018If the rest of the games in the Variety Pack, and the more expensive Robot Pack, can deliver the depth offered by the RC car and especially the Piano, Nintendo has created something that every child will love. And also something that every child will learn something from.
-
May 23, 2018The ToyCon Garage offers some surprisingly powerful tools for you to come up with your own creations, but you’ll need to put some significant time in to learn the ins and outs of them. Time will tell whether Labo ends up being a success for Nintendo, but it’s something I’m thankful for them attempting.
-
Apr 20, 2018Nintendo Labo is every bit as imaginative as the games that made the company a household name.
