Nov 30, 2018Overall, Nidhogg 2 is a successful follow-up to the dynamite original, instantly making this one of the must-have local multiplayer games on Switch. Not much is there for the solo player, though the online multiplayer is nice. The ideal setup is a slew of friends passing off controllers in the tournament mode, but even in less than ideal multiplayer scenarios, it’s still a chaotic and wacky blast.

Apr 18, 2019Nidhogg 2 is a madcap, tug-of-war fighter that shines in its simplicity. It improves on the original in almost every way, adding in new weapons, stages, and customisation options that bring what made the first special further into the forefront.
-
Dec 22, 2018It's already a perfect fit, and it feels like the definitive edition of the game just because the portability of the Switch is genuinely that big of a boon for a game like Nidhogg 2.

Nov 27, 2018No one can deny how well Nidhogg 2 suits the Nintendo Switch. While the controversial new art direction may split the fan base and the lack of kill count record comes across as a strange absence, this stabby sequel’s healthy amount of new stages and a fun weapon system still makes it an absolute must for couch competition.

Dec 3, 2018Nidhogg 2‘s setbacks make it an inadvisable purchase for anything but local multiplayer. The local multiplayer is fantastic enough to carry this game. Nidhogg 2 succeeds in making a few very simple concepts wonderfully captivating. By combining intuitive controls with a healthy range of tricks and strategies, Nidhogg 2 is the very definition of “Easy to learn, hard to master.” It is a worthy investment for you and your friends, provided they’re close by.

Jun 13, 2019Niddhog 2 improves on the original game's experience to deliver a fun effort that stands out the most when played on local multiplayer, while its single-player experience feels rather empty. Nevertheless, Niddhog 2's combat system and its fluid action and gameplay mean that any party or group of players that picks it up will feel satisfied for doing so.

Mar 5, 2019Nidhogg 2 upgrades its predecessor's formula to a grotesque but charming, fast-paced stamina duels. If you have a friend interested in testing his gaming expertise against you, grab this game! If not... Well sadly, nothing to look for in here.

Jan 15, 2019A very good port of a very good game. The only relevant mode is the local competitive one, but it’s so brilliant it doesn’t really matter. The strong points of the game are further accentuated by Nintendo Switch and its Joy-Cons.

Jan 9, 2019It's a shame that the single-player and online components of Nidhogg 2 are so underwhelming, because the local multiplayer itself is quite fun. As a party game, the game has a lot to offer, especially when passing the controllers around and playing the game in small doses. While it's not going to pull anybody away from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nidhogg 2 deserves a place in your lineup of Switch party games, especially at its price tag of 15 bucks.

Nov 26, 2018Nidhogg 2 is a game of ethereal highs and thudding lows, and those sporadic bursts of joy are best experienced with a friend by your side.
-
Nov 26, 2018Despite its problems, Nidhogg 2 is spectacular, engrossing, funny, tragic, and dramatic in equal measure, and it will no doubt become another party game staple.
-
Nov 26, 2018Nidhogg 2 is a prime example of how simplicity isn’t always a bad thing; this is a deliciously compelling couch multiplayer experience that’s both approachable and in-depth, potentially leading to dozens of hours of fun. The weak single-player offering and online lag are certainly low points, but the trippy visuals, chill soundtrack and frantic gameplay all combine to make this a recommendation for those of you looking for another great title for playing with friends; solo combatants may wish to exercise some caution, however.
