I played the original Pokemon Snap on my Wii in 2011 and it took me 5 hrs to beat it. For the New Pokemon Snap it took me 10 hrs to beat the story. After the story there is more Pokemon to discovery & over 100 request to do which I have to played the courses over and over again. It the best looking Pokemon game yet. I'm surprise it getting a free update on Aug 3 2021 with new pokemon & levels

As a succesor this is a 10/10, the originally formula but improved in basically every single aspect (except the evolutions which i missed). Graphics are the best the pokemon series have seen (to be honest, not that hard but ok), gameplay is very much improved to the original snap, lots of different maps, beautiful attention to detail, lots of new pokemon.

As a brand new game, in 2021 is where this game might be hit or miss: You are tied to on rails, to take screenshots of pokemon, that would be the basic pitch for this game. Of course is more detailed than that but for someone that is absolutely not familiar with the pokemon franchise or a more "chill" take pictures of something game, this is where the recommendation gets hard.

But where it shines, it does it perfectly: capturing the beautiful diversity of the Pokemon world, their habitats and how they interact. If you are into Pokemon, this is a must if you aren't then this gets a bit harder to recommend specially at $60.

I know it's not perfect, and its biggest flaw in my opinion is how repetitive it is, but for my own personal taste it a very relaxing game, at the same time it's rewarding and addictive. The graphics are nice and the premisse is right up my alley. It's not for everybody, but it's definetelly for me. The only reason I cant give a perfect score, is the tutorial. It's way too long in New Pokemon Snap. Text box upon text box, when literally all you do is point and press the A button. The game also goes out of it's way to explain to you how photos are scored, when categories like "size" and "centering" and pretty self explanatory.

    Pontos de destaque:
    Diversos Pokémon (lembre-se que é um spin-off);

    Fator replay altíssimo;
    Sistema online;
Novas áreas e funções para chamar atenção dos Pokémon e tirar foros variadas.

    O que deixou a desejar:
    Pokémon evoluindo com interações, assim como no original;
Tutorial muito extenso Interação online poderia ser mais completa, como acessar perfil de amigos, competições de pontuação, etc.

Ficaria feliz de ver DLCs com novas áreas no futuro! 8.5/10

Animation was a big complaint about Sword and Shield, and I'm hoping some of the animation team here will move on to Legends Aeceus. Good job, Bandai Namco!

The world is immersive and it realy feels like youre spectating a living and breathing world full of your favourite creatures.
The only downside for me, is, that it only features little over 200 Pokemon, and a lot of Evolution-lines are broken (why is there only the first and third stage for some pokemon?) which leaves a lot of room for DLCs/future releases I'd happily buy

Sound: 5/10 - Nothing special. Competent and occasional good tracks, but generally underwhelming.

Summary: 9/10 - Perfect for kids, fans of the original or pokemon and (amateur) photography enthusiasts. There's also a surprising amount of content compared to the original (not every game needs to be a bloated 80 hour marathon), and not a minute felt wasted.

    The Good:
    Arcade like rail "shooting" goodness.
Beautiful and vibrant locations filled with fun interactions between Pokemon.
Easy to pick up and play.
The Star system encourages finding all the interesting quirks of Pokemon.

    The Bad:
Why is there grind here? This ain't an RPG.
Areas feel cluttered and cramped compared to the original N64 title, making it hard to grab pics of every mon in one go.
Ironically, adding a story feels like a downgrade to the original having none at all.
Still being able to only submit one photo per Pokemon is aggravating with the new Star system.

    Details:
New Pokemon Snap is literally what it says on the case. It's an attempt to bring back the one and done deal of the original spinoff title that many fans have been begging get made for 20 years. With hundreds more Pokemon available(as of the time of this writing, a documented total of, funnily enough, 151 more to be exact over the original) the courses are jam packed with as many wild Pokemon as possible, especially when it comes to having multiple of the same type in one area(like Buffolant, which would naturally move in herds, what with being afro wearing buffalo and all). The controls are a bit simpler than many may remember. Unlike the original version, you do not have to use the "aim" button to snap photos, you can simply take them at any time, with that function now being swapped to a "zoom" function to get a better shot. Apples return as "fluffruit" and function identically, making most Pokemon come closer and better face the camera. The two new major functions are "Illumina orbs" and "Scanning". The Illumina orb replaces the Pester Ball and can cause certain reactions from Pokemon while Scanning has various uses depending on the context of where it was used(like uncovering hidden Pokemon or getting a hint). That said, some new issues have arrived from the 20 years of waiting. Unlike Oak, who just wanted some pictures of the local wildlife, Professor Mirror has a much more detailed reason for being here and needing your help. Unfortunately, it's not terribly interesting and rather feels like it's in the way, which leads to my next complaint. Grinding. You must play levels multiple times over, trying to increase your exploration level to unlock alternate versions of each of the levels, and on all routes. Raising the level changes the positions of certain Pokemon and adds in others, which increases the effective number of stages by quite a lot. But at the core this unfortunately means taking the same shots over and over a few times just to unlock a variant of the stage you were just playing. A new system that works better is the Star system. Pokemon will perform a variety of behaviors that are all given a rank of 1-4 stars. This system makes finding all the unique behaviors much more rewarding as originally you simply wanted the action that gave the most points, any other shot was worthless. Now the game encourages you to snap pictures of Pokemon you have already seen because they might be a ranking you haven't gotten yet.

    Verdict:
    Gameplay: B+
    Graphics: B
    Charm: A
    Replayability: A
    Good Vibes: A+
Professor Mirror: Sadly not as good as Oak.

Recommended towards those that utterly love Pokemon and need something they can play in small bursts.

The gameplay more or less is the same as it was before. If you didn't like the old game you also will not like this one. It's a slow and relaxing game. There is no real challenge besides finding (or creating) the perfect opportunity for good pictures.

However, the game has a much larger scale than the predecessor. There are more Pokemon to find. Each Pokemon can show different behavior patterns divided into 4 categories. And to complete them you need to shot photos for each category. Every stage can level up. Allowing you to find new Pokemon and other behavior patterns. And there is a mission system that asks you to make "special picture". Some of this pictures can be hard to find. As they only give you hints on what to expect. They also improved the visuals a lot. It's looks quite beautiful.

Overall it's a great game. Not a masterpiece. But it's a perfect sequel to the old game.

This game doesn't not have all 900+ Pokemon, and frankly, anyone who is expecting that is kidding themselves. That's way too many for a game where the devs aren't just creating their 3D models and putting battle animations on them, but carefully placing and pathing them and their behaviors into really cool environments. Plus, there's always DLC, which I would massively look forward to with this game.

The people who rate this game bad because they thought it is like a full pokemon game should watch some footage in the first place. this game was intended as a very upscaled and to this day adapted pokemon snap. A game that came out in 1997 i believe. It gives you what you should have expected from a pokemon snap. The only thing to complain about is the slight graphic downscale from the trailer.

Game has a couple issues, but if you loved the original N64 Snap your gonna adore this. Areas evolve as you level up your research for the areas which gives great replay ability rather then just getting the best shots your first time through. Really hope this is the dawn of renewing the franchise, and this was an excellent start!

Good return to the pokemon game that was ahead of its time, it doesnt have the same charm as the original but that more comes from the lack of nostalgia.

Amazing effects, amazing Pokémon designs and the gameplay really hooked me. It feels grindy at times but then again, you absolutely want to make the best pictures you possibly can because they are going to be so amazing.

After the dissapointment I felt with Sword/Shield this game reinvigorates my love for Pokémon again.

A few nitpicks: Menu's can take some time to navigate, you aren't able to quickly change the current course (you CAN quickly retry it though) the flute could use some more (or better) tunes because it gets annoying. They could have thought of some more creative new items to interact with. If you loved Snap you'll love this more!

Great game that really feels like a nice revival of the original game. It is missing some things that could make it better (like you can't evolve pokemon to get new pictures like in the original game), but overall is a fun relaxing game that stayed true to the original feel.

It’s a fun and exciting experience and you never know what you’re gonna find next. Seeing the Pokémon interact is so cool and you always see yourself going “wow” at every new thing you see. The graphics are gorgeous and the animations are great too. Sure the game can be a little grindy but without the grindy aspect it would be very short and you end up getting used to it. Apparently people didn't understand the concept. It's SNAPping pictures of POKEMON. It wasn't advertised as anything else, and it delivers on what it advertised. If y'all don't like the concept, that's your problem. It's a visually beautiful game, true to the original with new twists.

I don't know why people are review-bombing it but here's my honest review after 15+ hours of playtime.

It's amazing. There are a lot of courses with different environments and Pokémon. Like in the original game, you have to use certain tools that you get by advancing in the game, to have the Pokémon strike certain poses or interact with each other. Every level has its own leveling mechanic, which changes the Pokémon and behavior of the Pokémon in it, as you make progress. Some levels also come with a nighttime version of the course or different paths you can chosse to take. While ~200 different Pokémon may feel like a small number in comparison with ~900 Pokémom overall, it's more than enough. Because some of them only appear after you solve a puzzle or progress in the game. And even if you have a full Photodex, there's still many different interactions to photograph to get all four stars of a Pokémon in the dex. To give you an idea how long it takes to finish the dex (not 100% it, just get one picture of every Mon): It took me those 15+ hours playtime and I'm on place 100 in the ranking. That means I was one of the faster people to finish the Photodex, despite the time I took to sleep/cook/work.

Anyone that claims the game only has 6 hours of playtime has not even come close to finishing it. Now I could mention a lot of the other mechanics like the well-thought-out "bossfights" or the picture-editor but that would blast the lenght of this review even further. The only negative aspect, which I think is worth mentioning, is that there aren't any evolutions you can trigger, like in the first game. However, that's the only thing I'd really complain about. TL;DR: Amazing game, lots of content, easily more than 15 hours of playtime. Great successor and 9/10.

PS: To everyone mentioning "This game is bad, you can only take pictures.": Try reading a review, instead of writing one before you buy the game.

It has a lot of content to be honest, I'm kinda surprised, I have 20 hours by now and have a lot of things to do. There are a lot of easter eggs. The only let downs for me are music, that is kinda bland, and the fact you can't register a photo per rating (1/2/3/4 stars) of each Pokémon everytime you finish a course, slowing down the progress a lot. It's a solid game, probably not worth U$60,00, but U$40,00 would be a honest price. It's obvious it's a niched game and I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Exactly what I was hoping for in a sequel after so many years. My only complaint is that it takes awhile to get to alot of the more interesting photo opportunities due to having to level up each area. However, there are definitely unique photo opportunities waiting to be discovered on every level.

I never played the OG pokemon snap, I wanted to as a kid but as a responsible adult who has to consider finances and better understands their personal taste... What's the appeal of a few short cinematics?

Let me tell you, I regret nothing. Pokemon snap's appeal is difficult to understand unless you've experienced it. It's more than just wholsome-but-scripted encountets and photography; but it's hard to put to words what's "more" about it. Maybe it scratcges an itch I didnt know I had for a pokemon world that feels alive.

One thing I do know, the game plays like a seies of interactive short-films that evolve the more you watch them. And for some reason that's immensely satisfying

What's more, do not underestimate the empowrering feeling that comes from the "re-snap" feature. Seperate from the photo-editing, this mechanic can take even your most botched photos and give you the tools you need to turn it into something that resembles the work of a professional nature photographer. The renap is very intuitive and allows you to manually perform "touch ups" after the photos are evaluated, but it goes beyond the kind of digital remaster you coukd get IRL, the feature actually lets you revisit the moment the picture was taken and snap a new photo entirely, with much more precision than you got in your first go through. Resnsp can salvage virtuslly any imsge, as long as there was a visible subject within 30 feet of the frame. but why wouldnt there be? there's almost always something going on (whether it be cute strange or outright agressive) no matrter where the camera is pointed. I have spent more time fidling with re-snap than the rest of the game combined. Sure this game is somewhat "niche" and has some limitations, but overall I strongly recomend giving it a try, if you still arent sureif you think it's worth buying, I would suggest you test it out with a borrowed copy, if you can because a milion trailors and reviews could never do this game justice.

No, not every pokemon is in it, but each pokemon is so well fleshed out that it makes the pokemon world come to life. The only two things that bothered me were the music –which left much to be desired– and the wasted potential of the photo editor; the filters, stickers and frames could have been way better. Also, the fact that just a maximum of 6 pictures could be displayed in the online page was a bit disappointing.

Here you selectyour charcter, youre given a camera to go research pokemon for professor mirror… and the progression is the same as last time, you take as many picture as you can, the best you can, get graded on the pictures.. and once you’ve earned enough experience in an area youll go back to the lab, be given new info to drive the story along and youre back at it.. however this time around areas level up, each time you level up there will be new pokemon for you to find and interact with… as as you progress the story youll be given new items, like these balls to make pokemon and plants glow… andthis ime around, this on rails shooter feels more like going through aworld that’s lived in rathr han a world a bunch of pokemon are just running around in. there are veen day and nights versions of most levels, and even these illumine spots where you take pictures of legendary glowing pokemon… unfortunately though, new pokemon snap, while it is a heaftier and more substantial game, taking me about 10 hours to complete.. it isn’t as magical as the original. Simply because new pokemon snap is just overly complicated… what I loved about the original pokemon snap is its feeling of discovery… you got pictures and found pokemon simply by organically interacting with the world, throwing fruit, playing your flute, something ctaching your eye. Making a voltorb explode to unlock a new area… it felt like pure magic discovering something new.. here in new pokemon snap, everything is overly complicated and too high-tech… its constat axiety of waiting for the scan bubble to pup up, pressing the scan button, scanning whatever object the game wants you to check out, try to quickly read the text and do what you think the ame wants you to do in that moment… even taking new paths requires a scan, rather than again, making a voltorb explode, or make a pokemon explode a rock.. it has its moments of this, but not nearly enough.. which brings me to the pokemon.. im a litte confused on how leveling up areas work, as you only get credit on new pictures that score better than the last picture… so if I get a really good picture of picachu on this level, pickachu doesn’t count towards my score for this new level? So I just ignore older pokemon? To be fair there is a star system here to help combat this as you can get a 1-4 star picture, but that star system disrespect your time as a player.. you could get 3 different star level photos of the same pokemon, but youre only allowed submitting one picture for each pokemon you take a picture of.. even though you have a free space for that star level in your album… its annoying and forces grind a handful of times during the campaign, when youre just trying to unlock the next section… let me go back and get a different star picture of the same pokemon so I can move on… which brings me to the illumina spots.. these are just lame.. 2 out of the 5 are cool. But for the most part its just a stretched out boring slog of trying to hit these giant pokemon with an apple and a glowing ball for 5 minutes, and getting a picture of them glowing, while nothing cool happens around.. easily the weakest aspect of pokemon snap.. but I do like the idea and concept.. we just need a little more heart racing action…
Overall through /I love bew pokemon snp, despite its world feeling not so magical.. id love a follow up down the line that impliments more organic discovery, and less scan all of these items…
    I give new ppokemon snap

Achei muito gostosinho e relaxante. Foi exatamente o que eu esperava quando comprei o jogo. Sai muito satisfeito e achei que valeu o dinheiro que paguei na compra. Existem poucos jogos relaxantes. Esse estimula curiosidade e encanto.

I have never played the original Pokemon Snap on the Nintendo 64, but I enjoyed my time with this new game. First of all, it looks gorgeous and the selection of Pokemon represents all of the generations that came before. I do think it might be a bit overpriced for what you do in the game, but for me, I think it was worth it.

It's annoying to see that a lot of people didn't understand the game they bought. Of course it's not an open world, and it has never pretended to be one. The game's fine, if you knew what you were getting into from the first game. It's a fairly arcadey experience, with on rails courses that you can do over and over again, learning new things as you go.

The graphics look nice, which is important for the kind of game it is. Some of the textures are a let down, but overall not noticeable unless you look at them too long, though a few are readily apparent in photographs, like the texture used for the sawdust pile surrounding Bidoof when its poking its head out of the dam.

Grinding up research levels can be a little frustrating, so it's better to take this game in small doses and play it on your downtime, not try to rush through it all at once.

Some of the special behaviors seem arbitrary and unintuitive, and I still haven't figured out how to do tasks the game's requests ask for because nothing I try seems to work.

But if you go in to this knowing what the old game was like, and how it's now apparently a series, then you're not going to be disappointed.

If you go in thinking Bandai Namco is going to shoot for the moon on the first approach to an old series in quite some time, then you are sorely mistaken.

A wonderful successor to an N64 classic. $60 price tag may be a bit steep for this one but I'm having a blast with it.

Solid remake that didn't deviate to far from the original. Yet still gave us new features.

No evaluation feature is really sad because that was an amazing part of the original. Relatively short but with high replay value.

After two decades of waiting, New Pokemon Snap has proven to be a worthy predecessor to the N64 original. The artstyle and animations are all very well realized. The music is really good. Sometimes the loading screens seem to be a bit janky, and I wish you could keep more pictures. Good game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very beautiful game that lived up to all my expectations of taking images of Pokemon.

Some parts of the game are just incredibly good and make me wonder why some switch games have bad graphics.

I have only just got to the credits and still have much to do but so far it has been amazing.

Very good game but there are still things that could be better.
    Pros:
    - Amazing graphics - Fitting and beautiful music - Perfect amount of Pokemon - Interesting Maps with fitting Pokemon - Good and fitting story (in my opinion the best what you could do in a rail photo shoter game) - Interesting Pokemon interactions and animations - Some really hard puzzles to get rare pokemon /

    - Good and fitting story (in my opinion the best what you could do in a rail photo shoter game)
    - Interesting Pokemon interactions and animations
    - Some really hard puzzles to get rare pokemon / pokemon animations for special photos

    Neutral:
    - The different ways you can find in the map were good but could have been better, sometimes they were to short or not that special
    - The characters were fitting but could have been brought more into the game (especially the kids)
    - Can get boring if you dont like this typ of game and dont find the pokemon/secret youre looking for

    Cons:
    - Price is a little bit too much, 40-50€ would have been more fitting, for people who love this game and want to discover everything the 60€ feel okay, but fore the standard player who just finishes the story and only plays the post game a little bit its too much
    - No Evolutions, correct me if im wrong but I think there are no evolutions in this game which I find kinda sad because they played a big part in the original game and scenes like where you feed a magikarp and it evolves into gyarados would have been amazing
    - The rating/star system is fine, but the stars could have been made better like being able to pick multiple pictures of the same pokemon with different stars ( for each star picture you can choose one) or something in that direction

Overall its a good game but not perfect. A lot of the hate I see here is undeserved, theres either people who knew that this game was a rail photo shoter game, yet still bought it and then cry that you cant move freely or people who just rush it and then say that its too short.

New Pokemon Snap is wholesome and a joy to play. As soon as I started I was hooked; I love seeing pokemon play, work and hunt in their natural environments and the graphics are very pretty. Sometimes it can be quite challenging, as to capture a perfect moment you often only have a second or two to press the button and get the shot. I've found a few of the 3 or 4 star moments a bit frustrating to activate as the process to unlock them can be a little vague or require a series of events that require very precise actions and/or a certain degree of luck. I'd say it's great value for money; I paid around £40 and 40 hours in I still have content to unlock. The ability to edit and share photos is a nice touch. It would be nice to see some improvements made to the online photo sharing function, such as the ability to search for photos of particular pokemon. Expand

The visuals, not just for the Switch but for a game as a whole, are stunning. The on rails shooter aspect clearly let them manage their resources to help make the world feel more lively and give more dynamic actions to the monsters that we have the pleasure of interacting with. the sound track and ambient noise of the world and the NEO-001 as it moves around are brilliantly executed, and of course the soundtrack is great and at times feels almost cinematic. The worst parts of the game come in the games use of mechanics and story. The game being an on rails shooter takes a good deal of agency away from us as players. So much so that the fact that we cannot do things to encourage evolution like you could in the first game, pushing Charmeleon into the fire pit as an example, feels like a major miss from Nintendo here. Furthermore the story of the game is flimsy at best and I felt like there were constantly two stories that I was working on. One was researching the Pokemon and completing my photodex, for no real payoff, the other was looking for the Guardian Pokemon throughout the game. I would have appreciated the game so much more if a story hadn't been what felt shoved into the faces of us as players, but also if the hints for completing things for the photodex actually worked. The necessary targets that you have to hit, both literally with fruit and 'pester balls' and figuratively with taking specific pictures at specific times are frustrating at best and once completed I felt more of a moment of relief then I did one of pride in completing these harder goals to see rarer pokemon/poses.

Overall this game is worth every penny and I can only hope that Nintendo adds more content to the game to keep players coming back over time, or at the very least not wait multiple decades between releases next time.

It’s a lot of fun to try and get higher scores every single time, but at some point, it does become a little bit tedious, and it’s easier to try and look up online how to get the best score for a specific Pokémon, or how to reach a specific star count to finish up your Photodex, which is a bit of a shame.

In a nutshell: as a researcher, you travel to various places, interact with wild Pokémon and take photos to document their behavior. This simple concept only works thanks to the Pokémon, but it doesn’t have to be a drawback, because the game shows the world of pocket monsters more realistically and vividly than any title before it. New Pokémon Snap isn't totally perfect, but it is a lovingly, intelligently updated take on a now 22-year-old original that only came to life because it was imbued with Mr. Iwata's magic. I know seeing this sequel would have made him smile. [Issue #53 – July/August 2021, p. 69]
