I was so hyped when I saw the person at Game-Stop get the game from the back, only to see the case and the fact that it requires 16 gb download. Why is it when I look online; all the cover art for the switch doesn't show "download required"? Very misleading when you're going to buy it physically online. I could've just told him to put it away but I thought to myself "it isn't a big deal."I was so hyped when I saw the person at Game-Stop get the game from the back, only to see the case and the fact that it requires 16 gb download. Why is it when I look online; all the cover art for the switch doesn't show "download required"? Very misleading when you're going to buy it physically online. I could've just told him to put it away but I thought to myself "it isn't a big deal." I bought the game, put the game card in and was pleased to see you could play a few stages and characters before downloading the rest the game. This was just a quick rant before I actually talk about elements in this game.

Graphics: In portable, you noticed the game took a massive hit in the AA department. The game is nowhere near as sharp as it is on PC, PS4, or Xbox. The female characters hair especially is just, what have you guys done?! I feel like there could've been a better alternative to this but I'm no game developer. Everything else has been noticeably tone down but the game still looks great. Docked mode I noticed a downgrade in performance but not enough to completely destroy the experience. Overall I'm impressed that the game looks this good and plays at 60 fps.

Story: Uhhhh Raiden is a tyrant and this girl is like "oh no gotta start a time paradox." Characters come from the past like Jax, Sonya, Johnny, Liu Kang, etc. It's cool to see the chemistry between their past and future selves. Especially with Johnny Cage, except I don't remember Johnny Cage's past self being so arrogant. It's not a very memorable story but it's fun to play through.

Gameplay: Plays just like any other Mortal Kombat. Buttery smooth even on the Switch. They replaced X-rays with final blows which once you get down to a certain point on your health. You'll given the prompt for a final blow. Which does massive damage to your opponent but you'll only be able to use it once. So the gameplay is the same but there's a massive problem on the switch version.

Online Play: It sucks so bad. I'm constantly disconnecting from games and even when I'm in, it staggers and lags so much. This is a fighting game with precise timing and the game is stuttering every two seconds! I didn't have any of these issues on the PS4 version. Even on the stress test back in March, the game played mostly fine (PS4 stress test)! I know this might have something to do with Nintendo Switch servers but come on it's nearly impossible to play online.

Other Issues: Time tower and Klassic both require to be online to earn rewards. In fact, you need to be online all the time to earn anything! Why would they do something like this?! The worst part is that you're playing against the ai in this. But the game still stutters in the towers like it would in peer to peer combat. And it's just what the hell were they thinking? The Krypt is a massive grind and being in there is just not enjoyable with the clunky animations due to the switch hardware. It's not satisfying at all to open a chest.

Defending This Game: So a bunch of people is raising their pitchforks about the character designs being less "sex appealing" than in previous games. While NetherRealm does quite obviously have a political agenda. I haven't noticed anything SJW like in the story. People are constantly complaining about it but I haven't seen anything remotely close to SJW like besides the girls being covered up. Which personally isn't a big deal to me. Another thing fans have a riot about is the Jax Briggs' ending in the Klassic Tower. He goes back in time to stop slavery from happening. Okay and what's the big deal about this? What is exactly is with the "wokeness" which you people have been complaining about? I thought we all agreed that slavery is bad. There's legit nothing wrong with him doing this. I could blame a certain youtuber for causing a stir about this. TheQuartering of course but there is no point in deriding into a rant about him.

Conclusion: The game is fine but has many flaws. Which makes it quite a weak entry to a legendary series like this. Your best bet is to just get the previous game. Which has all the DLC for a much lower price than this new release. Until they fix the issues, you shouldn't waste your money on this.

    THE GOOD:
    +Fun Story
    +Smooth and crisp gameplay
+Looks great for the hardware it's on

    THE BAD:
    The rest is just ugly

    THE UGLY:
-Online PVP is a chore to play
-Klassic and Time Towers require internet to earn rewards
-The Towers stutter even though you're playing against ai bots
    -The Krypt sucks to navigate
-The grind for gear just is god awful

The game works well with some major exceptions. Characters with lots of particle effects will slow down the game making some of the roster impossible to play properly. This is also definitely one of the weaker stories in the series and the big single player feature towers of time can end up being tedious and frustrating and rely far too much on your consumables rather than any real skill. Overall a solid attempt of a port but nowhere near the quality of doom or even the recent dragon's dogma port. I sincerely hope future updates can fix this game. Expand

Mortal Kombat for the switch is great! But there are definitely pitfalls. I love the fact they were able to port MK11 to the switch. I feel the stages are beautiful for the Switch and the characters move smoothly. The story is awesome. Best part of the game hands down. It gives you the opportunity to play with numerous characters aside from your traditional fav. There are definitely laggy moments though. Especially when fighting Kronika. Also the faces of your opponent will initial are weird when doing a Fatal Blow. Plus hair looks GOD AWFUL! Get past that and game play is outstanding.

I definitely hate the "Always Online" feature it really limits the switch and it's portability. I get that it's necessary to be online for Tower of Time and Online PVP but everything else makes no sense. Also I think it's pretty stupid that only player one gets to utilize the skins and gear earned that alters your characters appearance. It's not even a performance upgrade so why each player can't share them makes no sense.

I don't necessarily mind the grind of the Tower of Time after the update so it makes getting items in the Krypt easier. But navigating the Krypt is terrible. If the map was at the top corner at all time that would make things so much smoother. Also the online crashes a lot. Which sucks in Tower of Time when you're at the last tier of and 8 stage tower and it doesn't resume where you left. Mind you, time is limited so hopefully that doesn't happen with 10 or less minutes to go. And forget about your konsumeables. Much like your progress those are gone. You're out of luck.

There are microtransactions but I don't even acknowledge them for several reasons... they tell you where the items can be acquired i.e. the krypt or tower of time. And they are randomized for a limited amount of time. Also the purchased currency cannot be used in the krypt. Which is where you'll probably find most of these items anyway.

This game will be great with additional characters. Definitely hoping for Sheeva, Mileena, Sindel, Reptile & Night Wolf...Also if you Can play as Kronika.

    Bad:

The Krypt is somewhat cool, and character roster is cool EXCEPT for the new characters. Even though they got rid of MKX fighters I hated, there's still awful ones like Cassie Cage and Jackie Briggs. Plus, good characters in the previous games are BUTCHERED (Eron Black, Noob Saibot, etc.) story-wise and gameplay-wise. Honestly, I'd rather play Injustice 1 & 2 over this game. MK9 is still the best one in my opinion, and even older games are better in quality than this. Graphics don't make a great game. All the elements have to work together cohesively. This game fails at that unfortunately. Lastly, KUNG LAO IS THE BEST!!! Expand

    +++++ Contenido de pago++++++

El contenido adicional se puede desbloquear completamente desde la kripta o desde las torres. He leído muchas kríticas respecto a los micropagos.

I can best describe Mortal Kombat 11 as a major disappointment. There's so much potential in the latest iteration on the franchise, but I find myself at odds with numerous choices that were made with this game. Considering that this is the Switch version of the game, there are some issues that only pertain to the platform that needs to be highlighted.

In terms of visuals and performance, It's very impressive how this game is able to run on the Switch. Shiver Entertainment did a nice job with the port. There is a bit of a haze effect when it comes to the environments and the characters look a bit odd, but all that can be ignored while in-motion; The standard framerate in Fighters is 60fps, this version of the game hits a solid 56-57 fps, which works well enough for combat.

The gameplay works for the most part. We have a passable cast of characters to work with, along with quite a few guests along with some fan-favorites. In a casual-setting, Going one-on-one with your friends in a bloody duel to the death is just as great as it did in the arcades. I had loads of fun wrecking my friends in friendly matches to pass the time. And if there's no one to play with, Training Mode is still a great way to learn and practice the mechanics of the game. There's a bevy of options on-hand when it comes to practicing; Training Mode is top-notch with a VERY customizable free mode, and dedicated tutorials covering fighting game basics, and specific character tricks!

There is some struggle when you take the competitive setting into account. The new Fatal Blows are a bit cheap. Past games had you build a meter to activate "X-rays", which act in the same vein, but Fatal blows are just given to you because you get your ass kicked. The split meter system does offer a bevy of new options during the fight but puts players into a "too-many-buttons" situation. as there are so many options to take into account in a defensive situation. Every character in this game has some sort of projectile, and hitboxes are just plain weird. Such concoction of battle mechanics encourages a more "defensive/zoning" playstyle, instead of a mixture of rushdown/bait-'n-punish to go along with the prevalent style.

However, the game falls apart in terms of the content. NetherRealm has [debatebly] been the gold standard when it comes to the AMOUNT of content that they include in their releases, The quality of their offerings is another story. Speaking of which, said story is a mixed bag, It's well-animated and choreographed, but the pacing and story bits are problematic, The "Character-chapter" set-up is very outdated, and it's filled with leaps of logic [which isn't exclusive to this game, MK9 and MKX had this issue as well] that can destroy the whole narrative; And considering how it ends, there's no way anyone can be invested in a universe that retcons itself as if it were a fashion statement and resets at a whim.
The unlockables and extras are something else. The Krypt is an area where you can use the in-game currency to open chests to gather goodies. It's been a staple in the series from the 3D games; This rendition is a more interactive experience with exploration elements, as you travel around Shang Tsung's actual island, filled to the brim with puzzles. There's are oodles of items that are begging to be collected... Too many. Along with the usual fatalities, skins, artwork, and tracks, there are also augments, gear, and "konsumables". The number of items you get heavily favors the latter collectibles, which dilutes the reward pool and makes the stuff that people actually care about harder to get. The premium currency, or Time Crystals, is completely unnecessary, especially since there are 3 other types of currency available, although it's a slog to accumulate. The presence of this only fosters a grindy ecosystem.
The extra modes available are passable, but even then there are gripes that each brings to the table. AI Battles are near useless, defeats the whole purpose of even playing the game if it just plays itself. The only use that I can think of this feature is for grinding classic mode, but that requires you to babysit the game to move on from battle to battle. The Towers of Time is a major step back from the previous towers, not only is there no challenges (i.e. Test your Might) to break up countless fighting at a disadvantage (The only way to put yourself at an even playing field is the use of "konsumables") but said towers are timed. All your progress is tied online, so any progress you've made offline is not tracked, meaning if ANYTHING happens, like an outage or a sudden crash, that progress is gone and you have to do it again. Such an online model completely handicaps the SOLE advantage that the Switch had for this game: Playing anytime, anywhere.

I cannot recommend this title for any Switch owner. Unless you're a dedicated MK fan, avoid this title and find another fighting game to play.

Good facts: One of the balanced MK games I ever saw. It has a great roster of characters to choose from. Awesome DLC characters. The game continues with updates that add new brutalities and skins. One of the best tutorials out there. It's a well-done game for the Switch (even if there are some frame drops).

All the whining that you can ignore: Since Mileena is not included - it's an awful game. It's a P2W game, you need to spend money. The graphics look ugly.

Overall, I enjoy it and continue playing. It is a good fighting game when you actually hop in and play with other players. But I can't ignore those bad facts and wish they could be fixed or at least considered when making a new game.

Not bad, is good in my opinion. In addition to being impressive as such a heavy fighting game, it ends up being compatible with a console that isn't specialized in graphics. Quite well accomplished the fact that you play it on a pocket console (well, is hybrid, but my console is Lite). The only bad thing is the DLC's, that's why you have to take advantage when offers come out with Aftermath.

Fun, deep and full of content, Mortal Kombat 11 is a complete fighting package. However, little performance and aesthetic problems, as well as the reliance on an internet connection to play single player content, prevent the game from achieving its true potential on Switch.
