Jul 11, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is, quite honestly, everything that I could have asked for. Between the new and returning monsters, wonderful new hunting locales, and a delightful bevy of tweaks and additions, you really can’t consider Rise to be a complete game anymore without Sunbreak. It truly is an already great game’s even better half.
-
Jul 6, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak adds more of everything that fans want – more quests, more environments, more endgame content – all couched in the same great gameplay that made Rise one of last year’s best titles. Enter aware of the blistering difficulty, but also acknowledge Sunbreak providing the tools to overcome it. Embrace the multiplayer, be prepared to faint, and have a blast.
-
Jul 5, 2022Despite the technical issues, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (with the base game) is one of the best Nintendo Switch games ever. The expansion enhances the base game to make it an easy recommendation for any newcomer to Monster Hunter, and an essential for every base game owner on Switch. Hopefully Capcom can improve the multiplayer performance in future updates.
-
Aug 22, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak fixes many of my complaints that popped up after extensive time with Monster Hunter Rise. Monsters have far more tools and can match the hunter in most instances, new armor skills ensure that builds and playstyles are varied and viable, and the maps and monsters themselves are fantastically exciting. For anyone on the fence about Sunbreak due to disappointment with the base game, this expansion is for you. For those who loved the base game, Sunbreak is a no-brainer. It has something for everyone, from longtime fans to newcomers who just started with Rise. As I said in the review for the base game, Monster Hunter Rise is a great way to lose a couple hundred hours of your life. With Sunbreak, you might want to say farewell to a couple hundred more.
-
Jul 26, 2022We're getting used to it, but Capcom deserves our praise once more: Sunbreak is an exceptional expansion that brilliantly tackles most of what was criticized by the community in the base game. We loved every minute of it.
-
Aug 16, 2022If Monster Hunter Rise was (for me) the best Switch game of last year, the Sunbreak expansion brings enough additions to breathe fresh air into the game, with new monsters, new maps, new abilities, new ranks, and the promise of adding hundreds of hours to your hunting time.
-
Aug 12, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is the expansion to a masterpiece that we never thought we needed until we started playing it. Featuring new locales, a new hub and a variety of monsters old and new alike, Sunbreak adds a new level of challenge that was expected by series veterans, as well as new gameplay features that newcomers to the series will enjoy.
-
Aug 12, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is fresh but familiar, offering plenty of opportunity to hone your hunting skills against new, more challenging monsters in delightfully detailed locations. It’s the very best way to hunt monsters on the Switch.
-
Jul 26, 2022Capcom set a high bar with this DLC, not only with a wildly successful game but their promotional game pulled no punches either, but did they Rise to the challenge? Yes, I think they did. Sunbreak is full of quality of life changes, customisation options, updated, variant, and new monsters. Get your friends together because you’re not going to want to be Palamute about this expansion. Even with its issues, overall Sunbreak is a great addition, one that definitely enhances the experience of Rise.
-
Jul 20, 2022If you’re debating getting back on the hype for Monster Hunter Rise, then the Sunbreak expansion is exactly what will sway your decision. Facing a challenge has never been so enchanting, and I cannot recommend the experience enough.
-
Jul 14, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak offers just more of the same at first glance. New monsters, a new difficulty, new maps and a new campaign to follow. Those who dare to sink their teeth into this behemoth of a game will quickly notice however, that there have been tweaks and changes to not only empower the players even further by reducing busywork and introducing new, flashy skills, but more critically empower the monsters. This adds some much-needed challenge to the game, even if the overall difficulty is still on the lower end of what fans of the series have come to expect. The follower quests need to be especially highlighted as a clever and fun replacements for the unpopular rampage quests.
-
Jul 7, 2022Like any good expansion, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is responsible for improving practically all the sections of the base game, ensuring many more hours of fun. A purchase that no hunter should avoid.
-
Jul 7, 2022With the inclusion of Sunbreak, Monster Hunter Rise is finally a complete package and it does not disappoint. It’s the most fun and varied a Monster Hunter title has been since 4 Ultimate on the 3DS, taking some of the best elements from that title along with Generations Ultimate and the quality-of-life improvements found in Iceborne. The best part is with so much to do it’s shocking to realize that even more will come through free updates and it will be exciting to see just what other monsters decide to make a crash landing in Sunbreak throughout the year and into next. Anyone looking for a fantastic Monster Hunter package who hasn’t already picked it up needs to dive into Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak and begin one of the best hunts to date.
-
Jul 6, 2022My main Monster Hunter Rise file went into Sunbreak north of 230 hours, and I put another hundred into a hunter on an alternate profile that was used for review purposes. I don’t think I’ll double that time on my main before the next Monster Hunter comes out, but it might get close. Sunbreak is a must for anyone who’s ever stared down a Rathalos and lived to tell the tale.
-
Jul 6, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak adds new unique locations and monsters along with a new hub and NPCs to join you on hunts, but at its core this is just more Monster Hunter Rise. It’s a cherry on top of an already delicious cake.
-
Jul 4, 2022Sunbreak is a success in multiple ways, with enough that's new or different to make it a must-have expansion for Monster Hunter Rise fans. New mechanics and content are enjoyable, the challenge is turned up, and it's still an audiovisual treat. It's a welcome reminder that there's nothing else quite like Capcom's monster-slaying franchise, and even in moments where it's 'just more of the same but harder', that's still more than enough. Now excuse us as we get back to the hunt. That fashionable armour isn't going to craft itself.
-
Jun 29, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak takes an already meaty game an expands on it even further. Despite a few missteps, Sunbreak sports a roster bolstered by sheer quality, smart improvements to the Switch Skill system, and the introduction of Follower Quests which coalesce together to propel Rise into the upper echelon of Monster Hunter titles.
-
Oct 14, 2022If you’ve finished Rise through and through, this expansion is something you will deeply cherish. A continuation of the adventure, filled with new challenges and content. Even old material is not simply recycled but given a new life. If only it was a bit cheaper…
-
Jul 4, 2022As anticipated in the introduction, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a great DLC, an ambitious expansion that greatly enriches the base experience. The product significantly improves and expands the combat system, the movement system and even introduces a new offline mode based on the use of companions controlled by artificial intelligence, so as to further enhance the gaming experience. On the bestiary front, the new entries of the DLC are fewer than those of Iceborne and concentrated in the final phase of the main campaign. The already announced post-launch support, which apparently will last until 2023, will further expand Sunbreak's offer, so as to make it even more mammoth than it is today.
-
Jul 4, 2022Rise is a fantastic expansion that adds not only a great selection of new monsters, but tonnes of content and new gameplay features.
-
Jul 7, 2022Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak elevates the possibilities of the base game with an expansion packed with content and improvements that further sharpen the refreshing gameplay we already knew. Despite the fact that there could be more monsters and it lacks the grandiloquence of Iceborne, this expansion is a must buy for any hunter.
-
Aug 23, 2022It is really easy to think that a DLC is made to improve the experience of a video game, however, it is made to extend it or change it completely to make it a unique experience. That's what Sunbreak does for Monster Hunter Rise. Not only does it add new mechanics or scenarios to the game, the experience feels renewed and the monsters are really difficult. It's a must-have DLC.
-
Jul 15, 2022Sunbreak is an absolute must-have for Monster Hunter junkies. The world of Elgado is full of new areas and adds seventeen monsters to the game. A disappointment is that there are only four really brand new monsters, but at the same time it is very cool to see monsters from older games. The new Switch Skill Swap mechanics and the weapons and gear that continue to evolve keep Sunbreak more than interesting even after completing the story.
-
Jul 14, 2022One of 2021's biggest Switch games just got a lot bigger with this great expansion that MH fans definitely should try out themselves. Great new monsters, new maps and new weapons and gear - all in Sunbreak.
-
Jul 11, 2022From Yokai to creatures of the darkest Western legends: Sunbreak expands the world of Rise consistently - and not just through monsters. The techniques available to players multiply, in one of the most layered hunting experiences ever.
-
Aug 1, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is more of the same but better. If you enjoyed the base game, you're going to love this new expansion of the adventure. The story may be a small excuse for us to get to know the new beasts, but the new rank along with the new abilities and upgrades, take the battles against monsters to another level. All a gift for hunters eager to continue hunting monsters.
-
Jul 3, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is "more of the same" with a moderate amount of quality content at a price maybe too high. The inclusion of only two new areas and less than 20 monsters (many of them not new) does not favor us to recommend this DLC if you were not a fan of the base game.
-
Nintendo Force MagazineNov 9, 2022All in all, Sunbreak's endgame has more depth, and obviously there's more challenge here too. It brings about creative new creatures to fight and creative new characters to fight alongside. You just may have a hard time convincing your friends to clear their cobwebs to return and fight alongside you too! [Issue #62 – November/December 2022, p. 25]
-
Oct 3, 2022Monster Hunter Rise was a fast, frenetic entry into the long-standing series, and Sunbreak improved even further on it. This title update is the first of many, according to Capcom. If you want to enjoy Monster Hunter at its flashiest, speediest, and by far its most crazy, Rise and its update Sunbreak are more than perfect for you.
-
Sep 14, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak brings a great deal of improvements to an already very good game. Thanks to the new added monsters, the Switch Skills, the Master Rank, the new abilities for each weapon and overall improvements to the experience, Sunbreak helps making Rise the ultimate Monster Hunter game on Nintendo Switch.
-
Aug 17, 2022All told, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is more of the same core experience, complete with the best gameplay the series has ever seen. While it cuts out one of the base game's unique modes and features, follower quests are a fantastic addition for offline play. The story could use some better pacing, but the mission structure continues to be spread out very well with new and returning monsters becoming available at a relatively decent pace — aside from the post-game grind to the final monster. Regardless, Sunbreak is an astounding expansion and a must-have for any hunter for both Offline and Online play.
-
Jul 26, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak does an excellent job of taking RPGamer’s 2021 Game of the Year and elevating it further. Some may lament the lack of a new game system similar to the Guiding Lands in Monster Hunter World. However, Sunbreak focuses on improving nearly every aspect of its base game. Hunting monsters continues to provide immense satisfaction years after the release of the original Monster Hunter titles. For those who enjoyed the base title, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak provides a compelling list of reasons to return back to the hunt.
-
Jul 19, 2022Do you want more experiences in Monster Hunter Rise? The expansion offers an attractive voyage to new adventures and monsters with new Follower Quests and Switch Skill Swap system.
-
Jul 6, 2022This handsomely generous expansion to an already excellent base game may take its time to deliver genuinely new content but once it does, hunters will have a blast facing new challenges, getting hooked in the loop for better gear, and taking advantage of the new mechanics. Overall it’s more of the same, but for avid monster hunters, that’s just fine.
-
Jul 6, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a fantastic expansion to the original Monster Hunter Rise. It lacks some of the robustness of previous franchise expansions on launch, and there can be some frustrating moments found within. However, this is more than made up for by new abilities, extra quality-of-life features, and increased challenge. Sunbreak is a fantastic choice for new players wanting more variety or veteran hunters seeking tougher battles.
-
Jul 6, 2022Not the most ambitious Monster Hunter expansion there’s ever been but it’s still able to introduce a host of new creatures and features to the always engaging formula.
-
Jul 5, 2022A beastly expansion that picks up right where MHR left off, Sunbreak builds upon the base game with a plethora of fresh, challenging fights, smashing skills, exciting equipment, and more. So hop back on your palamute and grab a max potion - you’re gonna need it.
-
Jul 29, 2022Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak focuses on introducing new content and does not offer substantial changes or improvements in gameplay mechanics. It was made for players who have spent dozens of hours in Monster Hunter Rise and provides a reasonable challenge, but I was annoyed by the fact that some quests look like they were copied from the base game. Also be aware that, unlike the latter, Sunbreak lacks single-player content.
-
Jul 28, 2022There are a lot of neat little touches here and there that make Sunbreak a fun all-around experience, even without the game-changer that was the Clutch Claw back in Iceborne. For Monster Hunter Rise fans still looking to grind out some armor for dozens of more hours, Sunbreak will definitely deliver on that front. But for the die-hard Monster Hunter fans out there that are looking for something a little different than the base game, there's not much new stuff to partake in this time around. Sunbreak feels like DLC for Monster Hunter Rise's Endgame rather than being a proper full-blown expansion.
-
Jul 25, 2022As the first expansion for the still relatively new Monster Hunter Rise, Sunbreak doesn't really bring much new beyond a new zone, story and monsters with the expected discarding of things that didn't work in the original game and slight refinement of those that did - without some bolder changes.
-
Jul 11, 2022This is an expansion that offers a number of small but noticeable adjustments that make life as a hunter, if not easier to survive, then at least easier to deal with. We get new monsters, new areas, and a lot of new equipment to play with. A solid expansion with new content.
