Miitopia is a fun first RPG for young kids, and while it can also be fun for adults, the game quickly gets repetitive and unrewarding. It would be better as a multiplayer game on Switch, or even an online outing that had more to do. It really defeats itself as a solo game. Its real appeal lies not in the RPG adventure itself, then, but in how wildly robust the new Mii-making interface is. Some people may want to pick up the game for that feature alone. Compared to the original released on 3DS in 2017, the Switch version of Miitopia looks better and offers a couple of additions, but it is pretty much the same thing. I had a lot of fun with it once again and I can recommend it to anyone looking for a funny (but not necessarily hilarious) game with an extraordinarily enjoyable gameplay loop. [08/2021, p.66]

Miitopia arrives on Nintendo Switch in a new and updated version with some improvements. Unfortunately, it suffers from old and repetitive mechanics, which can be easily boring as the 3DS title.

Miitopia on Switch is a remaster of the 3DS original. Sadly, it still brings the same tedious gameplay with little (need to) interaction during fights. Main eyecatchers are the extensive use of Mii for every role in the game and focus on building relationships between them. The use of these relationships in fights has great potential but isn't able to shine.

While it seems a little contradictory with the criticism above and the scores below, I did really enjoy this game… for about eight hours. There is a lot of fun to be had with the class systems and the humor the game provides. Unfortunately the game lasted thrice the length I was willing to smile through and boredom set in for long stretches. I’d encourage anyone with a passing interest in this title to download the demo available on Nintendo’s eShop. It’s quite lengthy, and shows all the game offers. If that gameplay loop with almost zero deviation and zero challenge is something you’re willing to endure, it can be a relaxing break from serious RPGs.

Miitopia returns to a Nintendo console, this time adapted to the Switch, and once again it does a great job at making a fun game out of something as simple as personal avatars. With its countless customization options, the ability to import characters from the Mii community, and a fun combat system, Miitopia might not be the most ambitious turn-based RPG ever developed, but it's an accessible, fun effort at a social game that can bring a smile to everyone's face.

Like this remake's newly-added horse character, Miitopia is a bit of a one-trick pony. Beyond a few rare format changes, what you experience in the first hour is basically what you'll be doing for the entire game. This will likely drive away some, particularly those looking for a more challenging experience, but for others, this pony's "one trick" isn't inherently bad. While much of the playthrough is spent fast-forwarding through repeated environments, there's still plenty of charming moments that are worth slowing down for. It isn't the most exciting title ever, but it does make you smile… and sometimes, that's all you really need.

Unfortunately, the game is quite toothless in terms of difficulty, with a slow pace of narration and sometimes monotonous gameplay. But at the same time, it has a charmingly fun atmosphere. This is a naive but creative tale, where you are the main creator of mini-stories.

If you’ve played the original recently, I wouldn't suggest playing this port straight away, but for newcomers it is absolutely the best version, that I can definitely recommend it as a beginner friendly RPG. As a fan of the original I’m glad I got to play it again with much better visuals and fun new features, but they failed to tune some of the annoyances to make my jaunt more jolly.

Despite these struggles, Miitopia is a great RPG option for fans of any age. The cute graphics and simple gameplay may be the perfect way to introduce a young player to the joys of RPG games or offer a long-time gamer the chance to create a party modeled off any popular series and put them through a goofy number of harmless quests. Mittopia offers a break from the gritty titles popular in the RPG genre, giving players an overall enjoyable, creative fantasy adventure.

Although it becomes repetitive after a while, it is a game that I can recommend for both players who are new to the RPG genre and those who are looking for a game where they can spend time without thinking too much.

My nine year old son loves Miitopia. He’s played it for almost as many hours as I have and I suspect he won’t be stopping anytime soon. I haven’t hit those same highs he has. The core battle system is too thin, and the activities and charming character interactions aren’t enough to paper over that problem. This is the most robust mii maker, but it’s all at a price that’s downright terrible. I wanted to like Miitopia more than I did, but it’s more like a Mii-nopia.

The reason RPGs first hooked me as a kid is because they always felt like they were my journey. There was something really charming about being able to name your character after yourself and feel like your decisions had an impact on the experience. Miitopia is a perfect evolution of that concept, giving players the freedom to make an experience that's truly unique to them. It can drag at times, and die-hard RPG fans will likely scoff at the difficulty level, but it perfectly distills that core appeal of the genre in a way that really works. Miitopia is whatever you want it to be, and if you're willing to lean into the absurdity, you'll love the ride.

Miitopia provides a lively and rewarding gaming experience. Despite being simple, its history has fun dialogues, which makes the game perfect for both children and adults alike. The amazing art direction represents the universe in which the game is inserted. The player is always an active participant in the creation of the characters and the gameplay has countless resources and possibilities worthy of a great RPG. Although it gets a little repetitive at the end, Miitopia is excellent and one of the most pleasant surprises of the year.

Due to the great customization of Miitopia there is a lot of involuntary humor and that is what sustains the game, but at its core it is an RPG with repetitive and monotonous mechanics.

I liked a lot about Miitopia. The Mii cast and the social interactions were the highlight, but I also enjoyed the fun story and the variety of player classes on offer. If you’re looking for a deep and tactical JRPG with an excellent story you might want to look elsewhere, but if you’re looking for a fun and simple JRPG with a great sense of humour, you should certainly check out Miitopia.

Miitopia is a real utopia for all the Mii lovers out there. If you love to be in control though, there’s not much to love or control here. The game is a random set of events between characters you choose and create yourself. If you lack the number of characters you’d love to see interact, this is probably not a game for you. Otherwise, no matter how repetitive, there is a high chance you will fall for its undeniable charm.

You’re not going to see Miitopia listed as a game of the year contender anywhere, but it’s a decent game for a console that has not seen many first-party releases over the last year. It’s absolutely worth picking up if you’re just looking for a silly game that can last you a while.

It’s refreshing to play a game so carefree and quirky as Miitopia that also allows you to customise the experience for whatever level of wackiness you need in your life.

Miitopia surpassed my expectations! There’s a surprising amount of content here, given the initial appearance and cutesy graphics. If you prefer the light-hearted side of RPGs, there’s a lot of fun to be had, with a lengthy game on offer. And it is loads of fun creating Miis of your family and friends (or teddies and pets) along the way.

Despite its unexplored potential and repetitive gameplay, Miitopia remains a fun pick up and play game. If you missed it the first time around and enjoyed the Switch demo, the extra features certainly give this game a new lick of paint. Besides, the mii interactions are certainly worth their weight in gold. Now, where’s Tomodachi Life 2? Because I think I’d like a new hat. Oh, and I want my bear back.

Summary: Miitopia is a fun and funny if flawed game. While this rerelease may be worthwhile to some for the character creator alone, its unwillingness to provide deeper and more balanced gameplay makes it difficult to want to experience everything the game has to offer or even just finish it.

Like its predecessor on 3DS, Miitopia Switch is an original work that will introduce you to RPGs. Filled with humor, its simplistic, non-strategic nature is nicely outweighed by its powerful Mii editor and long lifespan. Although a bit repetitive, this fun adventure will be a breath of fresh air for those who are new to this world. For the rest of us, we have to admit that the differences between the original and the remake are minimal.

Miitopia is back on Nintendo Switch. New Mii customisation options, a steed and an adventure that relies on giving prominence to the characters... but not so much to the story. The work adjusts itself to the player's tastes, with plenty of options to configure trades, skills, behaviours, synergies... Despite its repetitiveness, it's a refined blend of the classic turn-based JRPG experience with Tomodachi Life, but this time adding quality of life details that result in an improved version over the Nintendo 3DS work. It's not a lazy port. The irreverence of its writing, the unexpected situations each character can come up with, and its ease of minigames make it a perfectly enjoyable title for all audiences; especially newcomers to the genre.

Miitopia is a game packed full of adorable moments and Nintendo charm, but don't go in expecting the deepest RPG experience around.

Miitopia is a very charismatic game that offers us the necessary tools to create all kinds of Mii. While this port may not be worth a second purchase for everyone who already owns the game on 3DS, this is a fun adventure from start to finish.

It’s not too taxing and the gameplay is easily conquerable, meaning older gamers should probably avoid. And while it does get very samey after a while, the storytelling is always funny and the extra element of putting yourself in the game adds to the lols.

In some respects, there’s barely a game here at all. And yet, I’m still charmed by what I consider to be the core gameplay. Not the tedious battles or the humdrum story, but the interpersonal bonds and endless customization. If you’re looking for some laid-back fun in short chunks, this will be perfect for you. On the other hand, the game is missing big sections of what makes a good RPG. So long as you’re up for a leisurely tour through an endless succession of inns, Miitopia will be a great time.

Despite its ups & downs, it’s hard not to love Miitopia and its quirkiness. Even the most generic and basic RPG story suddenly becomes a compelling tale if you use friends-shaped Miis as characters and Miitopia adds to this formula a large amount of humor and weirdness that fills the void when the rhythm slows down. If I had a child, this would be the first RPG I’d play with him (or her).

Miitopia still retains its charm as it hops from 3DS to Switch, as well as a decent upgrade in the visual department. It's no 100-hour epic, but it's a cute and quirky little RPG that makes for an adorable distraction when you need to let your brain rest for a bit.

Miitopia winds up being little more than a great character creator attached to an overly simple game that, while charming in its visuals and dialogue, is a mostly passive experience. It's not as good as the big hitters of the Switch, but even this mediocre game has a lot to offer in terms of fun and great moments. Wait for a sale and then buy the game and go have fun with your best friends and family members.

The jump up in graphics is welcome, but the biggest improvement to the experience as a whole lies in its Mii integration. Having so much customization for the cast thanks to a robust online selection of fan creations allows the story to be goofier and funnier than it could be on its own, and the various absurd situations the cast is placed in help provide a lot of comedy. It’s basic as an RPG, but the execution of the basic combat system is good and it features modern quality-of-life improvements like auto-battle and fast-forward to keep the pacing high. If you’ve been craving a silly, fun RPG that isn’t too difficult and offers a lot of variety, Miitopia is a must-buy.

Here is a game that will divide. For some, Miitopia will be this bizarre and vaguely funny RPG, lacking in depth, challenge and diversity. But for others - those who adhere to the Mii universe and the inherent good humor of Nintendo - it will be quite the opposite. Not that the offbeat tone of the title erases its flaws, but we are having such a good time that we are ready to forget them.

Those who delight in making Mii doppelgangers and watching them get into hilarious situations will have a blast with Miitopia, but if that doesn’t sound like something you’re interested in doing, you’re probably better off steering clear.

Beyond the improved visuals and supplementary customization options, the additional member of the team played by the horse proves the main evolution of Grezzo's port, which makes the adventure even more pleasant for young audience, while RPG veterans may surely appreciate such irony, too reminiscent of the 3DS version though.

After its launch on Nintendo 3DS, the adventures of Miitopia come to Nintendo Switch. A true utopia with your Mii characters along with accessible and fun mechanics make it a purchase to consider.

There's method to the madness, and in giving players such control over the experience, Miitopia ends up becoming something resonant on a personal level. I rarely laugh out loud as much as I have had with this one, and that is more impressive of a feat than Nintendo will get credit for. It's hard to get humour right over something as extended in length as a JRPG, and Nintendo nailed it.
